My mom and I stayed here in early December when she came to visit me in Munich. The room was really charming and cozy, the prices were reasonable, and the breakfast buffet was fantastic. The location is great -- walking distance from the train station, and on one of the main streets in town. Our only complaint is that they advertised things that they couldn't really offer! First, there was an info booklet in our room that said that the hotel arranges horse-drawn carriage tours in the winter during certain days/hours. So, we requested one, and the staff acted like they didn't know what we were talking about. (And I was speaking German to them.) Finally, after much discussion, they said they could arrange one for the next morning, but not that day, and acted very put out about it. It ended up being a great experience, but we were very puzzled by how they handled it. Second, we noticed a sandwich board outside the hotel that advertised zither music every Monday night (I think it was a Monday) at 7pm in the restaurant. We were really excited (I love the movie "The Third Man" and the amazing zither soundtrack!), so we decided to make a point to eat at the restaurant that night. After about an hour I asked the waitress if we had missed the music somehow and she said, "Oh, we don't actually have it tonight." So ... why is there a sign outside that says you do, then? Both of these things were made somewhat more annoying by the fact that most of Mittenwald was shut down during this part of winter, which we didn't know ahead of time -- so all the main attractions, like the violin museum and the schnapps museum, weren't available. Considering this, it would have been nice if the hotel had been upfront about what wasn't available from them, either. Oh well! read more
