We stayed here for one night and it was quite comfortable. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and welcoming. The dinner menu is decent with a few veggie options. We ordered the veggie order and veggie pasta - both were delicious. They were able to accommodate us for dinner after 8pm . The breakfast buffet was also great with a lot of options. The only con I can think of - plumbing noise is very loud from adjacent rooms. The hotel is very close to Neuschwanstein castle and they have parking as well for 8 Euros per day. read more

We stopped by the Hotel Alpenstuben twice to eat. The restaurant is conveniently located close to the sightseeing ticket office in Schwangau, Germany. It has a gift shop and two restaurants on the first floor. The main restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. The outside patio is large and comfortable. Next to the main restaurant is a quick service area that is in a courtyard with additional tables. On our first visit we arrived at 9 am and my husband wanted what he called a "real" breakfast while my daughter, son-in-law and I wanted a bratwurst sandwich. At this restaurant we could do both. They serve eggs in many different ways with breakfast potatoes, sausages, pancakes and more. They courtyard area opens up with a griddle that cooks up (to almost a blister) the most amazing bratwursts that any of us have ever tasted. To make the sandwiches over the top and mind blowing they place it inside of a bun that could be described as manna from heaven and add a smear of incredible tasting Germany mustard. The bratwurst can not be compared to what we eat back home so about 5 hours after the first dining experience we went back for another sandwich. read more

We had an hour or so to kill before we head up to the Neuschwanstein Castle and we were feeling a bit peckish. We headed into the restaurant in the Alpenstuben Hotel at the bottom of the mountain for a bite to eat. The prices were actually pretty resonable for where we were. We ordered a currywurst, and sausage and pork dish, a goulash soup, some spag bol and a stir fry rice dish to share. The portions were big and the rice dish was surprisingly tasty. There was a variety of local beers and a vast kids menu to choose from. By the time we were leaving, the whole restaurant was heaving. A good place for groups and families to hang out. read more

Staying here was the highlight of our trip. First off, extremely easy to get to (public transportation from Munich), and perfect location - you are right in the middle of town and can walk everywhere. It took us 5 minutes to get to the lake, 3 minutes to get to the bus stop and less to get to the bottom of the Neuschwanstein hill. We walked in, and were welcomed and checked in right away. Our room was adorable and super clean, up to date bathroom and rustic yet elegant bedroom with a fantastic balcony and an unbeatable view. We grabbed dinner here as well and the food was also the best we had on our trip - our waiter was so kind and the entire staff was so friendly and happy. We had dinner, breakfast and lunch here and each of our meals was delicious, with great service. I'd recommend ordering the Bavarian specialties, that's what's going to be the tastiest. We actually recommended the hotel/restaurant to friends traveling in the area because we loved it so much (they loved it too). We had to move our dinner reservation because we wanted to explore Schwangau a bit more - and that was done within minutes of our request, no issues at all. We strongly considered staying a bit longer too because of how much we were enjoying the hotel. If we come back, we'll be staying here again and most likely extending our trip from just an overnight. We had so much fun at this hotel! Although it's hard not to when it's views are of both Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau! The rooms are spacious and clean and our suite was big enough to have my parents and mother-in-law visit for wine and card games before our adventures the next day. The bathrooms are newly renovated and are very clean. The bed was comfy and I loved having a little balcony to sit out on. Breakfast was included and it was a nice continental type spread with different types of egg, meats, cheese, breads and cereals. The coffee was also excellent! A great way to start a long day of tours. The location of this hotel is perfect! It's about a 10 min (if that) walk to the bottom of Hoenschwangau. From there you can easily walk up and explore a bit. It is definitely more of a trek (20-40 min) up to Neuschwanstein (take the carriage!). In the evening if it's warm sit on the patio and enjoy the bustle of the little town around you with a recommended glass of wine and schnitzle. Our waiter was hilarious and had us laughing all evening. All in all a wonderful visit to this hotel! Highly recommend! read more

I LOVED staying at this hotel! First of all, Schwangau is a magical place to be in. Its setting near the Alpsee and Bavarian alps - the beauty of the nature here just takes one's breath away! We stayed here because we wanted to see the castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. I'd been here a year ago on a city bus tour from Munich to see Neuschwanstein and fell in love with the castle and the village immediately. Because we were on a tour, our time here was very limited - about 3 hours max, which barely allowed enough time to see Neuschwanstein and no time to explore the village or see the lake - let alone enjoy the beautiful scenery. So I had to come back here a second time (a year later). This time instead of booking a tour we took a train to Schwangau and stayed a night. This gave us plenty of time to see both castles and hang around the lake. The hotel is located a short walk away from the bus stop. the village is small, so most likely wherever you stay it will be close to the major attractions. If you have suitcases it makes sense to stay here because its close to the bus station. the staff is super nice and helpful. the rooms are lovely - we booked the romantic double room. we had two balconies and both had a breathtaking view of castle neuschwanstein. I could sit there and stare at the castle all day. its very captivating. there is free wi-fi in the rooms, and the hotel restaurant is good and convenient. i think they stop serving food early though, about 4-6pm. So plan meals accordingly. The check in time is also limited, so be sure to factor that in to your arrival time. This was one of my favorite stops during my trip. I will go back in a heartbeat! read more

Stayed here our first night on our recent trip. We were a bit disappointed as it was touted as being at the base of the famous castle but the value for the price just wasn't there. I think we paid too much just to be that close to the castle and could have done better elsewhere. Besides, we were driving and were mobile at least. Also, had a phone in the room that was never activated even though I went downstairs to the front desk 3 times to tell them we needed to phone turned on but it was never done. read more
