So I had an appointment with Alan Schiffman today. figured I'd write a review for future seekers of disability lawyers in the area. I have to say I was more than pleased with the attention to detail and the knowledge pertaining to the disability system. Even informed me of a type of claim that I might qualify for because of when my injury was sustained. He went over everything and always asked if I was understanding, more than willing to explain further. He made me feel comfortable when I usually have anxiety issues in doctors and lawyers offices. He's the kind of guy where he's not gonna try to just take your money. He going to try and find a way for you to get the benefits you deserve without his help. But when it comes to the point of necessity, he'll exhaust all options before he'll quit fighting for you. Ive had a couple bad experiences with Disability Lawyers where they just overlooked my claim completely and refused to help. Even had appointments canceled. Heck, when I came here, I was 30 mins early and he got to me within 10 mins pretty much. That might not always be possible, but when it is, he'll do it. If you need the help, you at least owe it to yourself to have a sit down with him or his partners and see if need his services. read more

I went to Schiffman Law a few years back hoping to find the help I needed. Alen and Anna Schiffman both treated me as if I were stupid. I don't have a lot of medical records since I don't like to go to the doctors so Alen gave up on me and just went along for the ride. We talked with the judge and I was denied. On the way out to our cars he stops and tells me "You should have qualified for disability based on your Competency IQ alone!" And he left. Because I have a hard time understanding what is said to me, I have APD and a long history of severe head trama from being beat severely throughout my childhood so my brain doesn't work the way it should. I needed someone who would help me understand, someone who cares And I needed someone who I feel comfortable around and I felt really uncomfortable around these 2 people. That feeling you get when you just know the person sitting next to you hates you because they think they're better than you so the whole experience is just awkward and uncomfortable. I have been working with Lisa Counters and her paralegal, Melissa Gutierrez, for several years on both private disability insurance (through my prior employer) and SSA disability. It's a very frustrating process. You can submit all of the medical information and statements to the Insurers and they still deny you. Then you have to appeal (which is where Schiffman comes in) and they point out how ridiculous the insurer's conclusions were and you get approved. Rinse, repeat, each cycle. It is so helpful to have an expert who can hold them accountable, be specific about the requirements your employer has for disability, keep all of the pertinent records right up top and tie it all together in a large document which comes to an irrefutable conclusion. Thanks to Ms. Counters and her team I have been approved through 3 cycles of private disability (on appeal each time) and am now coming up on my social security hearing. Wish me luck. I received help with this firm (Anna was my lawyer) with my SS disability claim, from filing an application through getting my final decision. I was nervous about filing a claim having heard horror stories about how difficult it is, but meeting Anna the first time set my mind at ease and made me feel like I wouldn't be alone in the process. The entire process was explained to me in detail, repeating what I didn't understand and answering my many questions. No promises were made about what the outcome would be (she even explained about the options should an appeal be denied) and she detailed what my financial obligations would be should that occur. We Won A Big Case Thanks To Javier Puig! My son was gravely stricken from an injury he received at work. He was fighting for his life, and he had to undergo five operations within the first week of his hospitalization. I was by my son's side the entire time. Both night and day I was my son's patient advocate and the family representative, and let me tell you that it was the worst experience of my life watching my son suffer and not knowing if he would live or die. I now continually pray for all of the people and their families who have to experience such emotional and physical trauma. Needless to say, my son was in no condition to deal with any of the medical paperwork, insurance and associated legal matters. He was so hurt and so sick and he had such a bad infection. It was terrible. The entire family was so stressed and so tired out. We were all suffering from sleep deprivation. To make matters worse, my son's employer abandoned him by claiming the accident didn't happen at work. Nobody will ever know how much that abandonment hurt my son. Let me tell you something: my son had faithfully worked for this very same employer for 10 years ever since he was 18 years old. He was always there for his employer--- going way, way above and beyond --- even putting in a mountain of overtime year after year. After ten years, my son had a PERFECT record and a proven, extraordinary, work ethic.. I was so proud of how he was a responsible, charitable and a compassionate member of the community. And let me tell you it was like getting a knife in the back when my son's employer conspired with their insurance company and basically called my son a liar by saying they didn't believe that the accident happened at work. This terrible situation was not only very hurtful to my son, but very intimidating because he now had to go up against two corporate giants. We needed help! It's not easy to find good help. I don't care if you're looking for a good mechanic, hairdresser, dentist, roofer, plumber or whoever... it's just so damn hard to find somebody who is trustworthy and who does a good job. Attorneys are no different.
