You never know the need that someone has and how God may have been trying to meet that need. I am so disappointed and upset with how Christ was represented today. The attendant asked me as I was walking away if I I had a need that she could meet... **Just an update, I was just told in a response message that, "we are sorry you feel this way, tracking down the owner is the right thing to do."-- (message I just received). Hmm.. the attendant told me (via the manager on the phone) before I left out about an hour ago that they tracked down the owner. Maybe the manager and the attendant needed it. I pray that you bless them Lord-- they must have needed it more.

That said, the Re-Collector has picked up a few gems so if you're a hard core collector, you'll likely spend a little time flipping through the bins. There's some CDs, DVDs, cassettes, and even a shelf of 8-tracks, and then a bunch of completely randomized tschotschkes. While I'm a sucker for this sort of thing usually we haven't found anything interesting on repeated visits. The music and vibe can be interesting or annoying, which goes double for the Re-Collector himself; he seems to be a bit moody. The store's pretty cramped, too, so go in with your claustrophobia under control and I recommend not taking any bags in, either. Worth a buzz-by if you like random odd used stuff stores, but not a can't miss one-of-those-things IMHO.

Lots of Old Navy, Torrid and Kohls and Walmart brands though too, so be prepared to look through a lot of stuff. Home section is small here. Very limited selection of books. Come here for the clothes. Convenient location near 155. Thought it was odd they kept advertising stuff in NYC and Jersey over the audio system, but ok. I got a nice long sleeve for 5.99.

Many of the items seem to have either been donated by elderly folks or donated perhaps after folks passed and they have a great selection of vintage home goods including cocktail glasses, plates and an array of flatware. I scored a beautiful oyster fork here for a mere 25 cents and some nice commemorative plates from Christmas 1979 for $3 each. They also had a number of cordial glasses and wine decanters. The selection of clothes is rather small although they did have a ton of jeans. There are also some books and DVDs and handbags. Highly recommend for home goods. If you go looking just for clothes you may be disappointed. All proceeds benefit the American Italian Heritage Association and Museum, a non-profit.

In my efforts to downsize, I've been making some donations to the Salvation Army on Central Avenue…read morein Colonie. I like this facility. It's larger than many of the other locations. It's open on most days. They accept donations around the back. Due to staffing limitations they explained that donations of household goods must be dropped off before 11am on weekdays. They accept clothing donations throughout much of the day. They move a lot of clothing. Most of the staff is genuinely nice and helpful. I discovered that this center is also a good place to find cool, vintage glassware, especially from the 1960s. I love glassware. So while I make donations, I also pick up some fascinating etched stemware. Most don't match. It's hard to find sets but I can't beat the price which is 79 cents per glass. I also picked up some cute vintage dessert glasses at $1.99 apiece. I must sell or give away more than I purchase in order to downsize. The rule of de-cluttering is that you must donate or sell an old item before you buy a "new" one. The items at the Salvation Army are not generally new, but it is about people helping people and you can find some cool stuff.

Went around back. Sign said to push button for service. There was no button. Called inside and said I needed help with six bags (am elderly and handicapped). Told they can't take things from cars. No attempt to find a solution such as I take them out and give them to the employee(s). Dumped them in lot. Next time, I will go elsewhere.

The location has the usual color-organized clothes, and is mostly dominated by clothing; there's an odd furniture assortment on one side, two rows of very unininspiring housewares (the store on Troy-Schenectady road is far superior in this department) and a corner of extremely miscellaneous toys and books. Well below average for anything with a plug on it. We'll keep it in our thriftiquing rotation but this is not a drop-your-socks destination location in the genre. Yo, SA, invest in some Windex.
