Scheels is one of the newest additions to Missoula and is attached to Southgate Mall. It is located where JCPenney used to be. The store is pretty big for Missoula standards. It has a selection of everything and you can find all the usual items you would expect to find at a sporting goods store. They sell a variety of men's, women's, and children's clothing and shoes, hunting, fishing, and camping supplies, guns and ammunition, tents, grills, and everything in between. The layout is nice and there is ample room to walk around and shop without being elbow to elbow with other customers. One thing I immediately noticed was the amount of employees there were throughout the store. Maybe it's because the store just opened in the last couple weeks, but everywhere I looked there were employees. One important thing I should add is that while I was shopping, I noticed that NOTHING was on sale. Everything is full price and that was disappointing. I appreciate the variety of the items that they sell, but many of the items I can find online or at a similar store for much cheaper. read more

I wish I could give a 0 Star rating!!! After 5+ minutes in the store I had stop not been greeted or asked if I needed help (after spending the 5 minutes playing with bikes)! I came in to talk about Trek Bikes but found nobody around and after I heard what the "mechanics" were saying I walked out quickly. I hope TREK will have them remove the logo because I thought this was an Actual Bike Shop not a sports store with bikes!!! Thanks for no customer service and even less knowledge of bikes! Also my buddy that went there got the wrong size shirt, when he went to return it none of the shirts were on the right size hanger and multiple of them had a much higher price on them. So watch what you buy and make sure there's not another one with a much lower price on it! Basically this place is NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO GO!!! Avoid this place if you can! read more

From east coast so never been to a scheels, I like it better than the outdoor stores we have back home and I even went to this "small one" in Missoula. They have just about everything you need for hunting and camping. Biggest selection of firearms I've seen on the floor so that was really cool to test actions of all the rifles. As I was checking out I was conversing with the guy ringing me out and I told him it was my first time to scheels and he hooked me up with a free hat and t shirt with the Scheels logo! So nice of him to do that. They also have a 5% military discount as well!!! read more

Excellent manager at this location. We came in looking for a "play nine" game and the manager took us back to the golf department to find the game. Later while buying some fishing flies we had some problems at the register as the price rang up too high. Once again the manager came over and corrected the price. This place is amazing. All your sporting goods, hunting, fishing and clothing needs just to start you off. They carry all the name brands you might be searching for that's for sure. Staff was very helpful and really friendly. Bought the grandson a few items. Jacket hoodie and a pair of pants. Teenagers are picky what they wear but he found lots of items he liked. It is nice to find some sale items but usually they're pretty picked over. Their regular priced items are definitely on the upper end. Store was neat, clean and organized. read more

I tried to order a cap online as a gift for a friend to be shipped to another state. After order confirmation I immediately got a notice that it was cancelled and no explanation. I emailed customer service and got a vague answer so I asked again for clarification. They didn't process because my IP address (I use a VPN that pings Seattle or Atlanta) didn't match Missoula where I live and the address for my credit card. This is the first time this has ever happened on any site I order from for myself or as a gift. I have to assume that Scheels online system is primitive or someone in IT doesn't know what they are doing. I would've liked to have ordered from my hometown store but I'm sure I can find the same thing on Prime. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would because the consistent positive experience I've had with this store and the people who work there is worth the 10 stars. I have shopped here for a few years and have always had a pleasant experience, but last night's experience inspired me to write a review. Have you ever had "one of those days?" You know, the kind that gets worse and worse and worse? Well, that was my day yesterday. We are in the middle of a cold arctic blast and my vehicle was vandalized and all my husband's snowmobile gear was stolen. Where we live we can only access our home via snowmobile during the winter so you can imagine what a devastating loss this was. In a sheer panic I called upon some good friends and they agreed to go to Scheels on my behalf. Just as the store was about to close, Marty PoVey saved the day! Not only did he give our situation his undivided attention but he made sure we had everything we needed to get home that night. His compassion for our situation means a lot to us. That human connection in a moment of vulnerability is priceless. Compassion and integrity are something you can't teach, so if you know you have someone on your team who has them, you're going to want to keep them! Tuesday the 5th in the men's shoe department the man working refused to help anyone. He started by criticizing the people in front of us and just told them no and walked away instead of asking them if they wanted a different size or a different shoe. The woman was even so surprised how he refused to help. When he got to us he was also very short. We asked him for a certain shoe and a size in that shoe and he just said no and walked away. He was rude and did not even begin to know what costumer service meant. You could tell he didn't want to work that day and he didn't want to talk to anyone. It was a chore when someone asked him for a shoe. It was disappointing to see so many people have to leave the department because of this one person working this one person refused to help. It was between 2-3:30pm. read more

Very sad to report that I did not enjoy my visit to this location. This was my second visit to this store since it opened in Missoula, MT. I was looking for a specific item, so I went directly to the area where I thought the item could be. On my way to that department, I saw three different associates who not only pretended to be working, but when they saw me wondering they literally walked on a different direction. At one point, three boys (employees) were walking towards me, and they did not make eye contact or even greet me, instead they continue talking to each other completely ignoring me. I will not be going back to this store, and I will share my negative opinion with anyone who happens to ask for a (good) sporting goods store. During a time when "customer service" is obsolete in mostly every establishment, I would think that a store that prides on being employee owned will strive to do better and deliver outstanding all-around service to any customer. read more
