Scheels is one of the newest additions to Missoula and is attached to Southgate Mall. It is located where JCPenney used to be. The store is pretty big for Missoula standards. It has a selection of everything and you can find all the usual items you would expect to find at a sporting goods store. They sell a variety of men's, women's, and children's clothing and shoes, hunting, fishing, and camping supplies, guns and ammunition, tents, grills, and everything in between. The layout is nice and there is ample room to walk around and shop without being elbow to elbow with other customers. One thing I immediately noticed was the amount of employees there were throughout the store. Maybe it's because the store just opened in the last couple weeks, but everywhere I looked there were employees. One important thing I should add is that while I was shopping, I noticed that NOTHING was on sale. Everything is full price and that was disappointing. I appreciate the variety of the items that they sell, but many of the items I can find online or at a similar store for much cheaper.

No hello here! 5 minutes after walking in and no greeting!!! Find another shop.

I wish I could give a 0 Star rating!!! After 5+ minutes in the store I had stop not been greeted or asked if I needed help (after spending the 5 minutes playing with bikes)! I came in to talk about Trek Bikes but found nobody around and after I heard what the "mechanics" were saying I walked out quickly. I hope TREK will have them remove the logo because I thought this was an Actual Bike Shop not a sports store with bikes!!! Thanks for no customer service and even less knowledge of bikes! Also my buddy that went there got the wrong size shirt, when he went to return it none of the shirts were on the right size hanger and multiple of them had a much higher price on them. So watch what you buy and make sure there's not another one with a much lower price on it! Basically this place is NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO GO!!! Avoid this place if you can!

From east coast so never been to a scheels, I like it better than the outdoor stores we have back home and I even went to this "small one" in Missoula. They have just about everything you need for hunting and camping. Biggest selection of firearms I've seen on the floor so that was really cool to test actions of all the rifles. As I was checking out I was conversing with the guy ringing me out and I told him it was my first time to scheels and he hooked me up with a free hat and t shirt with the Scheels logo! So nice of him to do that. They also have a 5% military discount as well!!!

Do you rent camping gear? Like a tent

Hi Claire, thank you for messaging us! We do not rent camping gear at this time but that is an interesting idea. We will share that with our store leadership team and be sure to promote it if anything should change. - Shane

I made a lot of friends here and the customers were always a pleasure to have. Trevor was the best manager anyone could ask for. At first I wasn't a fan of the new company coming in but once they were around they were amazing to work with! The selection of brands in the clothing, shoes, and activity departments were really great! I loved the quality of the active wear and the winter jackets! I feel like the value of the company is so family friendly, It really focuses on the happiness of the customers! The policy's regarding returns is fairly flexible, and very generous. If anyone at the university, or high school students are looking for a job at the mall I highly recommend Bob Wards!!

As soon as I got in I was stopped by a cashier who demanded I leave my backpack in my car because it's their "policy". I said like hell it is, the Hamilton store lets me bring it in - so it's clearly not a corporate policy. Treating customers like criminals is pretty tacky. I left and went to my home store and guess what - they let me bring my backpack.

I have been fly fishing for more than 40 years and have fished with guides all over the country…read more Without question, this was one of the worst and most unprofessional experiences I have ever had with an outfitter. I booked a guided trip, paid my deposit, and was already an hour into my drive to the fly shop when--about 30 minutes into the trip--I received a phone call from the booking manager informing me that my trip had been canceled. The explanation I was given simply did not match reality. I was told the weather was poor, the water was too high, temperatures were too cold, and the fishing would not be worthwhile. None of that was true. Disappointed, I turned around and drove back to the lodge where I was staying. When the ranch manager saw me, he asked what had happened. Within two minutes, he had arranged for a local guide to take me out instead. Ironically, the conditions were nearly perfect for fly fishing--overcast skies, minimal rain, clear water, excellent bug activity, and active fish. In other words, exactly the type of conditions this shop claimed would make fishing unproductive. The result? One of the best days I've had on the water in years. We landed 20 trout, none under 15 inches, with several over 20 inches. We successfully fished indicator nymph rigs, dry-dropper setups, and single and double dry flies throughout the day. It was an absolutely incredible experience with an exceptional guide who earned the largest tip I have ever given. Because of this shop's decision and poor judgment, they lost the revenue from a full-day guided trip, their guide lost out on a substantial gratuity, and they lost any possibility of future business from me. I work in the hospitality and event industry, where reputation, professionalism, and client service are everything. I also organize high-end executive retreats and destination programs. This outfitter has permanently removed itself from any consideration for future business or recommendations. Canceling a confirmed trip after a client is already driving to meet you is inexcusable. Providing explanations that are completely contradicted by the actual conditions on the river makes it even worse. This wasn't simply poor customer service--it reflected a complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and respect for a paying client. I will never book with this outfitter again, and I cannot recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable, customer-focused fly fishing experience.

When I was in the Army there were a lot of guys who wanted to be the unit armorer as they ultimately wanted to be gunsmiths. But it is not that easy. You have to know, really KNOW guns, ammo, scopes and accessories. And you have to understand how they work, how they differentiate from each other and how to fix and fit them. This takes years of experience as well as years of using guns. I am just a shooter who likes to break things, like clay birds in skeet and trap shooting. I had a shotgun and was not doing well, averaging 17 - 19 hits out of 25. Went to see Kris and he "fitted" the gun to my face by adding a morton to the stock and telling me that a properly fit shotgun, when brought up to the face would be in the same position each time. And so it was as I now hit 21 - 24 out of 25. I like just listening to his conversations with customers, many very experienced hunters and Kris is a master. He simply knows his stuff and is a great asset, esp in a hunting state like Montana. If you are ever in the area, drop by. He is always busy but always has time to talk with you. I really admire experts and Accu-Arms houses one of the very best.
