I ordered a $400 pole and it arrived broken then I sent it back for replacement and the replacement is broken. they ship rods in a normal box instead of the sturdy tube. Kyle, "the only one that is in the gun department", is just about the laziest son of a gun that I have interacted with. There was another man, that "helped" me fill out the background check. He was more interested in talking to his old friends about their time at the gun range last weekend than helping me. The background check was pretty straight forward, but I was iffy on what height I put on my license, which I had given to the man a few moments before. When I finally got his attention, i asked him what I put for height on my license and he said "that part isn't important. The only part thats important is your SSN and address." I said thats strange and he stared at me like I was slow in the head. it's been over a week and I still have not cleared my background check for the .22 I purchased and the Scheels' employees refuse to help figure this out. read more

ordered on item on march 18,2024, received the confirmation email saying i will have it between march 22-25. Get an email march 20 saying the order has been cancelled because item was out of stock. You can do so much hands on stuff at this store, from riding a ferris wheel to playing games. Sure, the prices on some of the products are very high, but for high quality, name-brand, outdoor products you have to expect to pay a higher price. If you want cheap stuff, then go to a different store. I could spend an hour or more in this store. They always have a great clearance section! Holy hugeness Batman! This place is gigantic, complete with Ferris wheel inside. I'm not going to lie... the creepy weird mannequins of old presidents is completely bizarre & I can't wrap my head around why they are scattered about the store (this is one of the reasons they get 3 stars... no need for creep dead president dolls)... Moving on, this places has almost any sporting gear you can thing of for the frozen north. Another thing that creeps me out a big is the HUGE gun sections... did you know you can buy USED hand guns???! I guess I'm not much of a shooter, but that seems like a bad idea to me, to each their own I guess. I didn't find the sales people particularly nice or helpful. We have been Scheels customers since it was a little neighborhood hardware store. We have continued to shop there over the years and to give their gift certificates for Christmas. I'm sorry to give them a less than stellar review because of a bad experience today. I was given the gift of refillable CO2 bottles to use with a Kitchen Aid soda maker at Christmas. I just went into the service department to refill them. A very nice young man waited on me and called me when my three canisters were filled. I placed them in my own re-usable shopping bag (I had brought them in in that bag) and handed him the money. As he was reaching for my change, a manager popped up and very rudely grabbed my bag out of my hands and looked at my bottles. He said I could not have the refills because they CO2 was for soda water there was a slight chance that some rust could get in them. (The bottles are not from the Soda Stream Company, but they have the word "soda" on them.) I stated that it seemed unlikely, and I was willing to accept the risk. (After all, I was taking these to our lake home, which has well water that has a lot of rust in it. People have been drinking that for years! ) He was adamant that I could not have the CO2. Trying to be reasonable, I offered to write a statement saying he had informed me of the "risk", and that I was willing to accept it. I tried every possible way to be allowed to keep the CO2 I had already paid for. He refused and I had to wait while he removed the CO2 from my bottles. So, after taking quite a bit of time to finally get that task completed, I drove back home with nothing for my time or effort except a very sour taste in my mouth. The friendly local store we once knew has become a big corporation that is more concerned with liability (in this case, a fairly remote chance of a tiny bit of rust) than in treatment a customer with respect, or as an adult who can decide for herself if she would like to keep the CO2 under the conditions. Or, does this actually have to do with profits? Perhaps they sell Soda Stream canisters elsewhere in the giant store and this is a way to protect their sales of the overpriced Soda Stream refills. (Soda Stream refills are $15; this was only $3. Hmmm. Or perhaps the manager is a weekend fill in who was heady with his little bit of power and was acting like a martinet as a result? In any case, I'm having trouble swallowing the liability explanation. After all, if they truly are that concerned about risks, they should just stop selling all sporting equipment too. I'm pretty sure I'd be at greater risk of breaking a bone using a snowboard I purchased from them than from drinking carbonated water that might have the tiniest chance of having a little bit of rust in it. (Or more accurately, more than it already has.) This coming Christmas, the gift certificates are going to be purchased elsewhere. At least I have the power to make that decision for myself. read more

The place is busy and with lots of staff ready to greet you at every corner. As most hunters know Ohio is a big deal when it comes to hunting deer so purchased three tripod deer feeders that were supposed to be delivered on Friday which was important to me since I have to leave for work on Tuesday for two months here we are Monday my feeders are lost contacted Scheels Saturday and today and told FedEx takes a couple days to get back to them But they have had problems with FedEx delivering lately so not very happy with their service as of now had a few buddies wanting to place orders for feeders and some other equipment told them I do not recommend scheels at this time to bad they have some nice gear read more

I am writing this review of my first and only ordering experience with Scheels Sporting goods. I ordered a Tactacam Reveal X cellular cam from the Scheels web site in March of 2022. On the positive side, the ordering was easy and I received my camera very promptly, sooner than expected. On the negative side, when I received the item the outer box was sealed, but the factory box seal was broken. The camera appeared unused except for a small amount of stuff in a crevice on it that looked like cotton. When I tried to set it up the camera would not work, even after consulting with Tactacam support. As the owner's manual intructs, I did not return the cam but contacted Tactacam. After a lot of time and trials including a new sim card that did not remedy the issue, they diagnosed it as a bad sim card reader. The defective unit was sent to Tactacam and they repaired it under warranty. While the camera was repaired and it now works due to the marvelous people at Tactacam (their support was friendly, apologetic and prompt), this whole issue should never have occurred. Clearly Scheels sold me a previously returned, defective camera for new. Whether by accident or design, this should not happen, especially from an employee-owned company! Based on this negative experience I will never order from Scheels again! If I make a purchase from them in the future, it will be through an in-person store visit while I happen to be visiting one of the cities in which their stores are located. That way I can SEE what I am getting before purchasing it. read more

No kidding - A ferris wheel ride in the middle of the store that is two stories high. Bizarre! A gun section that takes up 3/4 of the second floor of a really big building. I ordered cross country skis from Scheels, they sent me a box with a single piece of bubble wrap in it. I called and sent photos (complete with the address sticker). Scheels told me that this box was the cap to a longer box that included the skis and therefore would not refund or replace my item. This didn't even make sense as the box I received was unopened. When I opened it, I did so along the longest side, so the ends were still shut and couldn't have been used as a cap. This company stole my money, don't order from them! read more

The women's section was great, but this place is pretty pricey. They have NDSU, UND and Texas Longhorns gear too. This place is huge! It has a carnival size ferris wheel in the middle of the store. two levels and so much for everything outdoors or sport related you'll ever need. Its like a mix of a Bass Pro Super store and a Dickey's. I found some great swag for the Dude. Since being with Dude I have taken over every college shirt/hoody he has had, so I need to replace them. And thank goodness that Scheel's had UofMN gear here!! Great prices and a great selection to keep Dude happy and proud to be a Gopher! :) they had licorice at the check-out stand... watermelon flavor is the way to go! Is it funny that our family spent hours there just playing around? We didn't even really plan to shop that day, but we ended up having gelato at their little cafe spot and spent money played the shooting games for a long time! After that, we checked out the Ferris Wheel and examined the strange, but interesting, mannequins, (and animals), they placed around like a mini scattered museum. I give it four stars because on the occasions we do intend shop there, sometimes they don't have what we're looking for, but for the most part, I love this store... especially the camping/lake cabin sections! The people working here are also friendly and helpful. It's always the first place we go to when we need sport's equipment or clothing because we know we'll be treated very well. On another occasion, we went to check out the prices of the snowshoes and ended up buying a pair on the spot because the salesman was so helpful and caring. My wife works in rough neighbor hoods helping find low funding housing for people. Someone recently tried to mug her her after work one day. With her training and her g3c she shot but did not kill. Awesome place! I'm not usually much for "sporting goods stores", but my friend took me here and I immediately fell in love with the place! The staff is very friendly and they will help you find anything you may be looking for. Their apparel can be pretty pricey unless you find a sale (I purchased a t-shirt for $5, on sale), but if you're willing to pay for the quality clothing choices they have, go for it! They do have quite a large selection to choose from. One thing you must do though is ride the ferris wheel. I hadn't been on one for quite a few years, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it...until we stopped at the top. Once you're used to the height though, you can get an amazing view of the store. Also, they have statues of all of the presidents around the store; pretty cool. Huge sporting goods store. I was actually at the store on the opening day in 2006. Have never rode the Faris wheel though. I purchased some running shoes here in May of 2009 for the Fargo marathon. The salesmen was helpful and knowledgeable in his area but not as friendly as he could be. It was still a very positive experience. This story has many departments if your into sports/outdoors or anything like that. Prices are kind of high. read more

My parents purchased gift cards from Scheels as Christmas gifts for my husband and I. We had planned to purchase some NDSU gear as my dad scored some season Bison football tickets for next year. When I went to shop for NDSU clothes an alert popped up stating gift cards are not accepted for any fan gear. I immediately called my dad....because that was the only reason he bought the gift cards. They were helpful and quick when we needed to get items from the back, and even a cashier who we hadn't interacted with at all made sure to tell us to have a good day as we walked out. After spending over an hour enjoying my first trip to the store and finding a number of items I wanted, I was MOST disappointed when I went to apply for a store credit card. Being told by a salesperson how much money I could save JUST by applying. Only to find out that the 30 second approval will now take 2-3 weeks for a decision. SHOCKED!! I have NEVER been denied a credit card or ANY loan. I have over 840 credit score and am wondering WHY i was not immediately approved. No explanation was given other than it was out of their hands. Would like to contact the bank directly to get an explanation. Would have thought that by the courtesy and friendliness of the staff that they would want to make sure that their customers did not leave without an explanation. VERY DISAPPOINTED and will think twice about returning or recommending your store since the bank you are dealing with does not explain their decision. 30 seconds very annoyed. I recently visited their store in Sparks Nv. The staff their was on par with their online folks. Really happy I discovered Scheels; they are really a top drawer company. I stopped going to the Scheels in Great Falls MT, because they seldom had what I wanted in stock. So today, I decided to give their online store out of ND a try. A total fail for Scheels. Their online shopping system gave me the options of having the item shipped, picked-up at the local store or delivered. I selected delivered and continued to the checkout page. There was no indication that they were going to deliver the item, only shipped. So, I called their customer support and after a long wait on hold, a young lady gets on the line and I explain that I wanted to select "delivered" but their system only recognized "shipped." Well, she got everything I said confused and bassakwards. So I repeated myself and she still couldn't get what I said, correctly. When I began to get frustrated, she told me "there's no need to be rude". I was never rude, just growing frustrated after waiting so long just to find myself speaking to a young person who couldn't seem to listen. It just went down hill from there. This was a small, inexpensive item that is being sold by at least 15 other outlets, so I just gave up on Scheels. I have now permanently crossed them off my list. I went ahead and ordered this item from Brownells - whom I've had basically good service from. Scheels really needs to decide if they are going to be a serious contender in the sporting good business. read more
