Worse customer service ever. They text you to death during the deal. But when you got problems with the car 2 days later after leaving the lot no reply nothing. I bought the Buick Verano from Schaffer and paid cash, no financing. I was looking over the protection plan and other paperwork and noticed theft protection and documentary fees of 280 and 349. I googled those fees and read that they are are deceptive fees salesmen tack on. I'm very disappointed. I paid top value, cash, for this car and they added 280 for filling out the documents and the 349 theft protection fee that is supposedly optional... That's bs. They said they don't haggle because they sell at the lowest possible price. I thought the guy was a nice guy, I get they need to make money but I feel taken advantage of. Bought a 2016 Jeep Patriot about 2 years ago from these guys for my wife who hardly drives. We took it in with in 6 months for transmission issues. We had bought the extended service contract aka warranty. I was told that it needed a transmission and the the warranty company would only pay for a used one and that they were the ones who ordered it (turns out that was a lie) The first transmission came in with something broken so they had to get another transmission. We waited several weeks and it finally was "fixed" the transmission made a rattling noise but went down the road at-least for a few weeks..... Then we had to take it back in because it would no longer go down the road. Again replaced the used transmission with another.. Again did not last more than a few hundred miles. Then Schafer subs it out to Team Hodges to fix, again with a used transmissions, I waited very calmly for this to be fixed. Over a year later my Jeep still is not fixed and now the company that Schafer bought my used trans from no longer wants to warranty the trans... So Team Hodges makes another claim under my warranty for another used trans mission again it made it less than 5 miles before I had to take it back to Schafer. Then I get a phone call saying that I have used up all my warranty and that they might be able to get the transmission covered but I will have to pay all labor out of pocket now, I said I am not paying out of pocket for something that should have been fixed under warranty. I was told that my Jeep was in the parking lot ready for pick up but it still isn't driving right and when they (Schafer's own people) drove it back it lost power and the trans acted up on them. I now have a Jeep I am forced to make payments on that I can't drive that I paid extra for the extended warranty that was basically useless. But hey you guys were able to get my heated seats working...... I have contacted the dealer a few times trying to reach a manager and have left voicemails and even sent a message today to be contacted through the website and nothing. In total they had my Jeep for over half the time that I have owned it for repairs. I bought this dang thing with around 73k and it sits in my driveway with roughly 78k. Mind you I was never once offered to pay extra for a new transmission nor was a new transmission price even offered as an option to the warranty company. They used over $12k on my warranty to fix this transmission that still doesn't work. Do the right thing here and either buy it back or pay to have a new transmission put in it! Don't blame Hodges for all this or tell me to take this up with them I didn't take it there to be fixed I brought it back where I bought it from. I have also contacted the Michigan SOS and filed a complaint. I forgot to add when I asked the service department why they didn't just put in a new transmission after the first couple I was told that they couldn't find any. I then actually went online for 2 minutes and found a new one and actually sent the link in a text message to your service department. And yes I still have the text messages. Also the service department already tried to get you to buy this back and left the notes on my last copy of paperwork on how much a new transmission was and what the buy back price would be. I drive 1 1/2 hr and asked for a loaner. I was told "NO". I find the unacceptable since there is a huge lot of cars. Any car dealer and slap a DEALER LOANER plate on any car. Are they that cheap? I paid cash for my car and would expect customer service to be good. My car was scanned by their instrument to detect what was wrong with it. This test is free at Auto Zone, but my daughter has one. They charged $144 for something that takes no labor.. zilz.. and all the gas stations I've been to do it for free...FREE. This isnt the only thing... I have a Diamond Warranty...not a factory warranty... they have you drive car a couple mo. so there are no underlying problem. So, after driving the car for 1 year and 1/2 years a new item appeared.. check engine light.. I was told it was not covered by my warranty because of rust. This is a new item and, since its not a factory warranty, but a Diamond warranty it has to be covered... I am disgusted with this dealership, and truly believe they dont do a thing to satisfy their customers....!!! I bought a used vehicle 3 months ago for $10K. Assuming that because I went through a traditional dealership I could count on the vehicle lasting a few years with just the typical repairs, I didn't get a professional inspection. Now I find out that the frame is corroded so badly that the pickup box is falling off and the vehicle can't be safety driven. I notice now all of the reviews from people with a similar experience to mine. It appears this dealership does not have integrity about the vehicles they sell on their lot. Quantity over quality. That is what you get when you shop here. They purchase most of their vehicles from Canada. That is how they cut on cost to make the vehicles appear to be a lesser price to comparable competitors' vehicles. I have purchased two vehicles from them; both times it was a mistake. The first time was an '05 Chevy Malibu. The roof lining leaked and the suspension would never stop clonking even after getting the shocks replaced (High school/college car). I purchased a '13 F-150 and have had to replace numerous parts: alternator, rear diff., wiring harness...the list goes on. It does not have that many miles to equate to that much repair. I almost made the mistake of purchasing a third vehicle from them, but fortunately for me they screwed up and forgot to apply for the title transfer from Canada so I quickly told them forget it. It was a blessing in disguise. Stay clear of these guys, otherwise you'll pay for what you saved up front big time later on. read more

Joseph was great to work with, Best Truck Prices around. Edit: So after having the truck off of the lot for not even a few hours it started overheating. After contacting Schaefer they agreed to check out the truck at no cost to me. Cool. So I did my part and changed the thermostat so they wouldn't have to and got the overheating fairly manageable. Next day i check the transmission fluid and its considerably low and the Truck reeks of antifreeze. Yesterday the Truck goes into Limp mode and is stuck in 4th gear. I dont know what's going on or what to do as the truck doesn't even seem safe to drive back to Pinconning. Mind you I've had this truck for less than two weeks. Waiting to see what Schaefer has to say about these issues before increasing the rating on my review. It almost seems as if the truck was never inspected at all before it was sold to me. Second Edit 6-18-2022: Just got off with the rudest manager I've ever spoken to. Before I could even voice my complaints I was given attitude. Schaefer DROVE my truck to Richardson Dodge in Standish while the truck was in limp mode for transmission issues. Not only did they not tell me they were taking it to another dealership but I wasn't aware until I called on Thursday 6-16-2022 that it had already been taken there. While I was on the Phone with the manager of Schaefer I was informed that they Don't have to tell me when they drive my property to another dealership 10 miles away and that me paying $23,000 for a truck from them not even two weeks ago didn't matter anymore. Mind you I have texts from FOUR HOURS after receiving the vehicle when all these issues were starting. Needless to say I will NEVER recommend this dealership for service of any kind. And while the sales team, Joseph, to be specific was fantastic to work with I can't recommend anyone buying a used vehicle from this place. The complete lack of regard for a customer you just received twenty three thousand dollars from is outlandish. Buyer beware - Schafer Chevrolet adds an extra $349.00 charge for "etching" on every vehicle they sell, and will NOT allow you to opt out of that charge (I spoke with both the salesman, Nate, and sales manager, Eric). Do a Google search and you'll find out etching is a scam. They lost a full-asking-price sale today because of this upcharge scheme. You will see 2 undeniable themes, the good reviews are people who have "lucked out" and not had any problems with their car, but just about every bad review is about how they refuse to stand by their sale if anything goes wrong after the sale is complete....I would NOT gamble with such a high priced purchase! Don't fall for their dishonesty or think you will be the exception! When I contacted them to see if the would service my sunroof on a car I purchased in late winter and only used twice, Michigan has not had warm enough weather to try it out more than that, they were rude and unprofessional! When I got angry over their dishonest business model (I was originally told that since it's winter they would service the ac or sunroof come summer, if there was a problem) the manager told me I should have asked nicer and hung up on me!!!! I was very nice and patient with the FIRST sales person that told me it wasn't their problem and "we told our sales people to stop telling people that in November," referring to the conversation about servicing the AC or Sunroof! The worst customer service and even worse vehicles. They buy their used trucks from Canada and then jack up the price for a rusted out piece of garbage. They sold us a truck with a leaking exhaust and didn't want to fix that. They lie and take advantage of people who are at their lowest/most vulnerable time. The staff does not care about their customers. A 2013 truck should last more than a year. We've owned it for 13 months and have needed a new exhaust, water pump, head gasket and the 4 wheel drive has gone out. The transfer case is almost completely rusted out and according to Schafer the severity of the rust can happen in just one winter. We were completely lied to and taken for a ride by this dealership! The advertising for this vehicle said it had one owner, from California, and zero accidents. Things started going wrong and we were advised by our mechanic that things looked suspicious. We decided to look up the history using Carfax and discovered that the history of this 2012 vehicle only went back as far as 2018. My husband then contacted Schafer Chevrolet and was rudely dismissed. At this point we were advised to contact the secretary of state and the Michigan attorney general. It was quickly discovered that the vehicle was from Canada, it has been involved in 2 known accidents, and more than one previous owner....the ad we responded to from Schafer was completely fraudulentand they still do not seem too concerned with taking responsibility for their wrong doing. As we all know purchasing a car can be super exciting, scary, and freaking miserable all at the same time. I've moved back to the Metro- Detroit area and was on the prowl for a car. A used car. I was debating between the 1998 Jeep Wrangler because my 16 year old self wanted me to, the 2002-2004 Acura MDX, and the 2004 + Saturn Vue. I've spent countless hours looking for a solid vehicle often being steered into questionable corners via craigslist and Auto Trader. Oh you want me to pay for the car within the next 2 days before I even come see it? Oh you want me to pay through Amazon and they'll take care of shipping? So I was a little skeptical to inquire about a posting of an almost too good to be true 2004 Saturn Vue I found on Kelly Blue Book. The receptionist at Schafer Chevrolet connected me with Jared . I mentioned I'd like to come take a look at the car and will have to take off work for it so it won't be until later in the week. He says, "We can bring the car to you for you to take a look at. You like it, you put down a $100 deposit to ensure it's yours, and if you don't like it... no harm no foul." WHAT?!?! You mean you'll have someone drive 2 hours to ME when my schedule allows? AWESOME! It worked out like a charm. A nice, sweet, and unbiased retired Auto Salesmen drove the car down to ME for ME to test drive. Naturally I fell in love with the car and put a deposit on it the next day. Jared was nothing but honest, patient, helpful, and very accommodating with my needs. I would recommend Schaefer Chevrolet to ANYONE. They've been in business for over 80 years and there's a reason for that. They really cater to YOUR needs. read more

I have had nothing short of a nightmare dealing with this dealership. Purchased a vehicle from them 27 days ago and am still being jerked around on getting a repair done on the vehicle. One excuse after another as to why my vehicle has not been repaired correctly. My girlfriend and I visited Schafer on 6/29/20 to look at a used vehicle we found on their website. We called and made an appointment easily enough. The salesman told us he would go get the keys when he got off the phone with us to make sure it was in good working order before our visit. There was several hours between the time of that phone call and our appointment. We were on our way home from visiting family and it was not far out of our way. For that at least, we are thankful. The salesman called us 20 minutes before our appointment to tell us that he had just went out to the vehicle, and noticed that the four wheel drive warning light was on and that feature did not work. I was a bit annoyed because it would have been nice to know that in advance as I could have made arrangements to look at other vehicles that were in working order before leaving town. Since we were only 5 minutes away at this point, we decided to stop and look at it anyway. When we arrived we noticed the vehicle we were coming to look at had been pulled up right by the front doors to the showroom and it appeared to be exactly as the website had shown it from the outside. After a brief wait, the salesman we spoke to met us with the keys and additional bad news. Apparently, the power steering did not work either. At this point, I was struggling to hide my annoyance and frustration as we looked the rest of the vehicle over. The previous owner had obviously had long haired dogs as there was quite a lot of their hair throughout the interior and when the A/C was turned on an unpleasant odor that my girlfriend described as wet dog smell, filled the interior. When it was mentioned the salesman was polite and told us that the vehicle would be repaired and detailed before being sold. I was allowed to test drive it even with the defects, and we concluded that we would like to purchase it as long as the defects were repaired and we could get it a fair price considering some of the other minor issues we found. When we returned from the drive, and I made what I felt was a very fair offer to purchase it. I was flatly informed that as a "market dealer", they do not negotiate, period. I could understand that to a point, if we were talking about a new vehicle or even a low mileage "newer" used vehicle. In this case we are talking about a 15 year old grocery getter with over 150k on the odometer, at least one accident as verified by Carfax, and numerous cosmetic flaws. Things like the smell, which can be notoriously hard to get rid of, cigarette burns on the driver's seat, loose trim, etc and their "Great Price" is at the top end of the price range as measured by most authoritative sources. To top it off, the salesman couldn't even give us a rough estimate as to when the needed repairs could be made because their service department was extremely backed up. We were told if we purchased the vehicle or placed a $200 non-refundable deposit on it, the repairs would take priority over vehicles that had been taken in on trade but behind customer work. Hmmm... Give the dealer money on a vehicle I have not been able to look at or drive in proper working order, much less properly detailed, and just trust that they will do the right thing in a timely manner. Ummm no thanks. A total waste of our time. Wish I had seen some of the other reviews here beforehand. read more

Drove two hours only to get low-balled on my trade-in value (I literally laughed out loud when they wrote it down since we had exchanged messages and tentatively agreed to $1500 more) Instead of negotiating a little bit on the price of the new vehicle to bridge the gap, I drove home and they had to staff two people to deliver the vehicle two hours away instead of having me just drive it home that day. Hi, I have been looking for a Jeep for a while, buying this Jeep was not a real fun experience for me. I had a very professional, curtius, friendly new salesmen, Nate. He had guidance with the sale, I had no problem with that. The experienced help didn't go over the Jeep with me. They didn't show me anything about the Jeep except the questions "I" asked. The breakdown of the sale was with the finance Manager Shawn. He "blew" the deal with his attitude, hurriedness and lack of finding the best interest rate deal for me with financing. I found my own for LESS. When closing the sale he was short, not friendly and pissed that I found a lower interest rate with someone else. Shawn tried to belittle me with the decision I had made. I was not belittled by Shawn. I have many questions about the Jeep and I feel that I must go somewhere else to get my questions answered. I did not like how the sale was handled. No one has made a call asking how I liked my new purchase! read more

We purchased a used 2014 Chevy Traverse - supposed to have been "inspected" - and paid cash. They offered us almost NOTHING on our Pontiac minivan, which was - as it turns out - a far superior vehicle. After driving less than 1,000 miles, the rear shocks completely fell apart. I took the vehicle in, and they told us this was "our" problem. After some angry and hostile negotiations with our "salesman", they capitulated enough to have us pay for the parts, and they would cover the labor. The very next WEEK, we drove the vehicle about 300 miles, only to have the timing chain completely fail - and I mean "stranded" fail. We were hours from home, and stranded. I rented a car, and had the vehicle towed to a local garage where I paid $4,000 to have the chain repaired. The mechanic told me there were now metal fragments in the system, and it would eventually fail again. After driving it back home, $5,000 later, after rental costs, we went back to Schafer - where they - once again - said, basically "shame on you for buying from us". Translation: Less than 1,200 miles, on a cash transaction, we paid almost $5,000 in repairs.This is a junk dealership, selling junk, and represented by junk salespeople. As we discovered, this Traverse was purchased by them on auction, and had a history of undocumented issues. The fact that the Sirius XM feed was set to Canadian broadcast should have sounded the alarm, but... alas, live and learn. Buy from Schafer only if you want to go BACK to Shafer to deal with problems. They will lie in your face! There is a reason why a meteor could land in Schafer's lot and probably not damage a vehicle. This is a charlatan dealership. I'd rather see the place bulldozed than to hear of one more person with yet another horrible testimony - and I've heard plenty since our one-time experience. Buying a road-side vehicle in inner-city Detroit is probably more reliable than dealing with these people. They don't care, at all! read more
