My son went through two days of tryouts, was excited to get an invitation to join, then after practicing for several weeks, we received an email saying "here's your refund, sorry it did not work out." My son was devastated! I was confused but learned that they didn't have enough players to continue (i.e., make a profit which appears to be the main goal of this basketball club). I asked about it and it took the coach over a month to explain what had happened. I had to call several other club teams to see if there would be a way he can still play the season with another team. It was not easy since tryouts had already happened, but I did not give up. Eventually, I was connected with a great coach who understood the predicament my son had been placed in thanks to Premier, and offered my son to do a separate try out for his team and was pleased with his skills and offered him a spot on the team. We are thankful for the new coach and his leadership. I think we dodged a bullet!

And if you think kickball is "easy" I'll have you know it was hard to walk for about 2 days after my first practice. And if you pitch it's basically like doing lunges for an hour and a half. The games are fun to play and fun to watch and whoever wins at the end gets the magical Golden Boot as a prize. Man, I'd like to touch the boot.

We moved from Pride Soccer Club because we were looking for a new coaching style after four years in Pride's competitive division, and were seeking a truly competitive environment for our 11-year-old son. Rush offered him a spot on a U12 team, and we accepted based on our understanding that it would be a competitive team appropriate for his age group and development. When practices began, we learned that several players on the roster were significantly younger than expected. The birthday range for a U12 team, as documented on Rush's website, is August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2015. 5 of the 13 players on my son's roster were born in 2016. Additionally, the coach explained that the team was intended for players who were new to competitive soccer after playing primarily recreational soccer. We also learned there was no indoor or futsal program planned for the winter, and the coach was surprised when I asked what tournaments we'd attend despite our understanding that tournament costs were included in the annual fees. He told us he "could look into tournaments if the team wanted to attend one." Because the team was not what we believed we had signed up for we arranged a tryout with another club, and that club ultimately offered our son a spot in a higher division. When we requested a release from Rush 6 days after the start of the season we were told by the club director, Marc Carrasco, that the remaining season fees would need to be paid in full before the club would consider releasing him. We paid more than $3,000 in season fees, plus an additional $375 in kit costs, for two total practices. For parents considering Rush, I would recommend asking the following before accepting an offer, and getting responses in writing: * What division or bracket will the team being offered compete in? * What is the age range of players being placed on the roster? * Are tournaments, indoor leagues, or futsal included with that specific team? * What is the club's refund and release policy if the team is not what was represented during tryouts? I was also disappointed by our interaction with the club's director, Marc Carrasco, regarding the release process. During a phone call with my wife, he told her that we were "lucky" the club would even consider a release and that "most parents overrate their children's skill level." We found the conversation unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. Our son has since found a club that is a much better fit. While others may have a different experience with Rush, we left feeling that important information about the team's level of competition should have been communicated clearly before families were asked to commit financially. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Rush. This was a painful and expensive lesson for our family, and I hope other parents will ask detailed questions and get answers in writing before making a significant financial commitment.

If you made the unfortunate mistake of giving them your money, just call Visa or Mastercard and have the payment reversed. SportsMonster didn't even follow the health department rules during the covid pandemic. During the summer of 2020 they had Kickball teams at Goodale park playing multiple other teams on the same day, despite the Columbus Health Department explicitly saying that sports teams could play the same team twice, but cannot play more than one team in 24 hours, to reduce possible covid spread, mean-while every other sports league in Columbus followed the health department rules. I did a summer session that was great, no hitches. But as soon as the fall session came around everything fell apart. Week 1 was canceled because of weather, but SportsMonster failed to notify anyone until the games were actually supposed to start -- well into gametime they had not updated the so-called "weather box" they have on their front page. That's a half-strike. Week 2 rolls around, and no ref showed up. No games could be played because there were no nets, and no ref to record scores and report them back to the league. Week 3, SM insists they've fixed it, and while being very nice to me via email, were pretty rude to our team captain via phone. They didn't have much concern for our issues, and their only concern seemed to be that they were aware of the issue, and were surprised we weren't satisfied with that. Buuuuut no ref showed up, again. No games can be played. Week 4, weather issues -- they reported this cancelation with ample time, without issue. Shortly after they alerted us to the fact that they were scheduling a Sunday pair of games to make up for lost time. Normally that's okay, but we lost two weeks because of their incompetence, not just because of weather. At this point We told them that since the Sunday game was scheduled with about 5 days notice, and none of us could make it, that in light of all the other issues, we were going to be unable to play and they needed to refund our team captain the money. They outright refused, and refused to acknowledge that refs didn't show up two weeks in a row. This is not what a coed sports league should be. They are uncompromising, their service is less than adequate, and uncooperative. I understand the necessity of keeping revenue, but this is a pretty ridiculous series of events, and it's better for you and your customers to just refund them, and work something out again, rather than forcing them into something they can't even do (largely because of their own screw ups) and pretty much ensuring we'll never come back to Sportsmonster. I'm not trying to throw the individuals there under the bus, they're probably doing the best they can -- it's not like they like this or it's easy -- but someone in SM corporate needs to take responsibility and either fix their organization, or leave it to individuals who are more caring and more capable about organizing fun, coed sports leagues in our cities.
