However, I find myself recommending this beach to my loved ones visiting Seattle time after time. So, I randomly did a search on Yelp for Rosario Beach and I see that I am not alone. I wanted to echo everyone's love for Rosario Beach and share its beauty. It is about a 90-minute drive north of Seattle. It is a part of Deception Pass State Park so you are required to have a Discover Pass to park in its parking lot. The parking lot is on the smaller side and in summer, the lot gets full most of the time. However, we usually find an available spot after waiting a short while as I usually see folks staying for a short while and then leaving to check out another part of Deception Pass State Park. So, even if the lot seems full, just be patient. Since it is a state park, there is a clean bathroom facility with flushing toilets. The bathroom is just a short walk away from the beach. There are a few picnic tables with BBQ grills. We see weddings, family gatherings, couples having a picnic lunch, landscape photographers, bird watchers, and many more. Such an inviting place for all. And the beach. The water is usually calm as it is a cove. And yes, the water is very cold as we live in the PNW. It sure does not stop our children from getting into the water no matter the weather. It is beautiful. I was a landscape photography hobbyist (more active in the past) and I was immediately drawn to everything this place had to offer in terms of photography opportunities. If you are into photography, you will love this place. Every year, we come here to kayak, SUP, hike, check out the tide pools, have lunch, take a nap, get tanned, and just hang out with people I love. Since I'm from Hawaii, I wish the water was warmer but I'm slowly getting used to the idea that I live in the PNW. Haha! Alooooooha! from the beautiful Rosario beach!

I made my way out to the beach and went walking and collecting driftwood and various stones. Views are gorgeous, the bugs weren't too bad at sunset and I had a good time seeing the bunny's come out to nibble on grass and the birds flying around.

There is a small parking area by the beach where one does not need a Discovery Pass because it is not technically part of the park, but is close enough to access the park grounds via foot. We park there and then I can go exploring on foot on the beach or traverse some of the trails through the woods. I was walking along the main trail during the summer in 2021 and found some blackberry thickets. The berries were big and juicy. So upon returning to my grandmother's house we found a pail and I brought it with me upon returning to the park and picked a few handfuls of blackberries. After picking the berries we got some ice cream at the grocery store and had blackberry-topped ice cream for a snack/dessert. Fun place to explore and collect berries for a sweet treat with grandma.

It's a small, but mighty, little strip of land that's bordered on three sides by private property, so while it might not be a great place to hang out with 1000 of your closest friends, you can't beat the vibe here for a small romantic picnic or playtime with the kid. The beach is pretty typical PNW: driftwood, rocks, mud, and lots of stinky seaweed to give the place atmosphere. We were there at low tide, so it definitely had wading potential (if you're into cold, Puget Sound water). The thing I liked most, besides the stunning views out to the Olympics, was that there were only two other people on the beach. This would also be a great place for some sea kayaking on a calm day. There is a port-a-potty in the small parking lot, but other than that there are few amenities here, so bring along your own water, shade, and seating. But if you're looking to cross yet another gorgeous PNW beach off your list, this one is definitely worth a visit.

The park is a pleasant place to come even when there is thick wildfire smoke. The breeze from the bay might not completely clear the smoke away, but at least it provides some circulation of the air. My grandma and I like to come here and eat lunch together. We like to sit and eat at a covered pavilion stocked with picnic tables and a kitchen, though the kitchen requires advance reservation to use. A playground is adjacent to the eating area. My grandma likes to people and pet watch as we eat, I prefer to watch the water and try and spot any birds or other critters that might be out. It can get a bit cold depending on the weather and the wind. Even in the summer months, we both bring an outer garment to wear. The parking lot by the baseball fields is where we park and it can get a bit crowded if busy. Still, it is a parking lot easy to maneuver in.

The far south end is particularly great for finding sea glass. Be sure to bring ear plugs with you when you are at the south border of the beach. This is where you will meet up with one of the runways of the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, home of the EA-18G Growler electronic attack squadrons. The noise pollution has been part of many lawsuits for years. The Navy has rejected a proposal to move its Growler electronic attack squadrons to a base in Southern California., so the noise issue isn't going away any time soon. If you have ear plugs, it's actually quite a sight to see the growlers take off.

Coming from out of state, we easily purchased a $10 Discovery Pass day ticket and parked in the lot. Using our flashlight on our phone, we explored the actual fort, built during World War II as a coastal defense. The fort is preserved well and you can go inside all the rooms and tunnels. There are also trails along cliffs lined with meadows and forests, offering beautiful views of the water. There are public restrooms near the parking lot.

He died at the hand of Hatain native men. He was the first non native resident of the island. If you arrive late, you can park and check in in the morning (now that we've been doing this for a while, that seems to be the norm). Friendly staff, gorgeous views, beach access, base police make regular rounds, and the bathroom facilities are clean and warm. It's nice to take a shower in an area big enough that if you drop something, you don't have to get out of the shower to pick it up. ;-) The dogs loved the path and the nearness of the beach for potty potty breaks. Man, this place is so windy. If I might make a recommendation...keep your awning in. Only put it out when you plan to sit under it...otherwise, keep it in. Prices are competitive. There is a playground and giant chess set. BBQ's provided at each site. Back in, pull through, 50 amp, 30 amp, tent camping, yurts, oh...and fun "art" installations along the path. If you're into tetanus PT, there's a pull-up area covered in rust!

The Whidbey Scenic Isle Way is a nice stop to take pictures of the shoreline just past Fort Casey State Park. People were fishing and even scuba diving while I was walking around. The whole coastline is refreshing and a great way to put things in perspective. I enjoyed being there.
