Imagine falling off a ladder and having your foot detached from your leg. Yea, that's what happened…read moreto me. The fire dept arrived within minutes. They assessed the situation, immediately offered pain medication, splinted my foot, and gently placed me on a gurney, all while someone held my hand firmly. Their kindness and genuine concern helped ease my suffering. During the ride to ER, the fireman that stayed with me had positive words of encouragement and kept me smiling with his humor. Our conversation kept me distracted and his words of wisdom still resonate with me. They even had the foresight to have my husband remove my jewelry in case surgery was required, which it was. I wish I had asked for individual names so I could thank each fireman/woman personally. Once I'm able to get around, I plan to stop in for a visit. I'm so proud to live in Fremont and truly feel we have some of the best fire and police force in the state.

My father lost his balance on his porch and fell into a potted plant and couldn't get up. Thank goodness for a neighbor walking their dog and calling 911...Bless you! As we go through our day to day lives trying to navigate the chaos of Covid19 and the changes it is bringing... Isolation, quarantines and fears. Learning to stay 6 feet away from our fellow human beings. These first responders are still showing up to their jobs to help others and I am sure they are facing the same fears as the rest of us... The 3 men that showed up to help my father were the kindest, most professional skilled & respectful worker's you could ask for. Kudos to them all for treating my father with kindness & respect. They went so far above & beyond! My family is most appreciative. They even asked if they could clean up the broken pot so there was no sharp mess, who does that? They did! We are so grateful for their help. In all the commotion I didn't get their names so all of our gratitude goes to all of the Fremont fire departments and Falck Alameda county ambulance services. And my dad is fine...

I freaked out because my baby was inside the house alone; I ran to my neighbor and asked to use their phone to call my husband but wasn't able to reach him. A few minutes later, I decided to call 911; the operator asked me to wait outside and help is on the way. I kept talking to my baby through the door; I was in tears hoping nothing bad would happen. I waited for about 5min (might be shorter, but it seemed longer when I was anxious), the Santa Clara Fire Department came. They were all very friendly and patience; they calmly asked for detail information about my house and my baby. They tried to find a way in without breaking my doors; they quickly figured out a way to get into the house through a window. As soon as they opened the door for me, I ran to see my baby. Luckily she was safe, enjoying some videos in the high chair. The Fire Fighters didn't just leave right away, instead, they made sure to place the window net back on correctly, said hello to my baby and my dog, as well as checking the smoke protectors at my house. Embarrassingly, all of my smoke protectors were out of batteries; they offered to install new ones but refused to let me pay for them. They also played with my baby and my dog while waiting for the protectors to be installed. Seriously, I haven't seen a group of genuinely nice people in a long while. While I felt very bad for them to come for my stupid mistake, I was very thankful that they were able to rescue us in such a short notice. Thank you Santa Clara Fire Department! You guys are awesome.

Jason, Rich, Peter and another gentleman who's name I cannot recall, were outstanding and couldn't have demonstrated a higher level of compassion and form of leadership. Tonight a pipe from the back bathroom burst causing chaos and flood. My parents who are elderly, and sickly were afraid and in a state of panic. I tried calming them and we ran outside to shut off the water switch to the entire building. We could not get in touch with management and were in deep concern. When my mother noticed a popping sound from the water heater we became increasingly fearful and called SJFD. We were them advised to exit the apartment until they arrived. Upon arrival of Engine 18 C, they quickly made sure we were safe and that the water heater was not a danger rather the sounds coming from it were simply reactions to the shutting off of the water which caused water temperatures to change. Once Jason saw we simply needed a plumber and advised us to call one out, pay for it and have the owner of the building reimburse us, I explained our unfortunate low budget. I explained how i am between jobs and my parents who are on fixed incomes could not afford to pay for a plumber. Jason and the others looked deep into their hearts and did not leave us. They went into the house and fixed the issue so that we could get through the night. I felt so grateful that after making sure we were safe, and that water heater was not a danger, they didn't just leave. They went above and beyond and got their hands dirty. Bravo guys. You all helped a single working mother and an elderly couple so much. This is the face of San Jose fire department. I salute and appreciate you all for your help tonight. Thank you and God bless you. -Ruby Perez 4084691132
