We were woken up early this morning by someone pounding on our front door shouting "fire! fire!"…read more Turned out that it was our neighbors house, two doors down. My hon of hons hero husband pulled on some clothes and ran over to pound on her door to warn her to get out! Fortunately she wasn't home, and neither were her two dogs. As he was running over there I was calling 911 but the operator told me the OFD was en route. Sure enough, four fire engines showed up in minutes and the crews sprang into action, breaking down the front door, sawing through the roof and breaking through the skylights to make vents for the smoke to escape. They had the fire under control in minutes. It could've been a lot worse as it was very windy out and there is a house under construction right next door. We were so scared the flames would spread to the wooden structure but fortunately the OFD was so quick and on top of it that there was nothing to worry about. Five big red ones - thanks OFD! You guys are wonderful!

This is not for the Oakland Fire Department but rather MACRO that operates out of it…read more This group is absolutely useless. Not only have I only ever seeing them getting coffee and hanging out, but even when a crisis arises that matches the exact description of what they should be responding to, according to their website, their coffee break keeps going uninterrupted. Here are a few examples: A few years ago, an unhoused woman who was camping outside of my house snapped and got completely naked and began yelling and accosting people, even propositioning them. I called MACRO about it, only to be prompted to call OPD. I was baffled - as this seemed like the very call MACRO could, would, and absolutely should respond to; there was no violent crime being committed, no weapon. Merely an unfortunate unhoused person having a (further) mental break. Even on the police's end when I did call them at the behest of MACRO, they told me to call MACRO! I had to tell the dispatch that MACRO had already directed me to them. So not only does MACRO not know what they do, but neither does the other extensions of the very city government that funds and manages them. I would like to say that this was an isolated incident but then a few weeks ago, an almost identical event happened; I was walking home from work along Grand and passed by another unhoused man, holding a bottle of liquor and walking with his pants down around his ankles, his junk visibly hanging below his shirt. Now, it's already bad enough that this city has gotten to a point where this is so normalized that I was going to just ignore it and go about my evening. Yet 20 meters away from where I passed this man, a two-person team from MACRO was standing around, coffee in hand, just hanging out in front of their official van. Frustrated, I walked up to them and pointed out their missed opportunity. Their response was "we're working on it". Okay - how?! How is standing around doing nothing equate to you "working on it"?! Did you give him a crisis number to call? Did you give him money for a room? Or did you just call the cops because you didn't know how to handle it or simply not feel like handling it? Neither answer is surprising or better than the other. This wouldn't be so aggravating but this is just a another bullet point on the ever-growing litany of incompetencies, shirking, unaccountability, and plain apathy and self-serving that the Oakland City government operates on. The unhoused people, garbage, unmitigated crime aren't the issue; it's the general idiocy and/or corruption that permeates city hall from top-to-bottom or vice-versa to do anything about this. Whether it's holding criminals accountable and actually using taxpayer dollars to establish crime prevention programs, setting up helpful shelters and resources for the unhoused or food banks, etc., all this city personnel and administrators care about is promotions, pensions, and power. That's it. They got our money via taxes under the lies that they'll use it wisely. They're no better than the current inhabitants of the National Mall and White House. Yet their virtue signaling and performative progressive agenda would love to convince us otherwise. They're all liars and kleptocrats, including the derelicts who staff MACRO. We hope you enjoyed filing your taxes - no be complacent with getting nothing back.

Special Thank You to Ramsey, DeMarco, Cooper and Natmar for helping to rescue our 14 year old dog…read moreTucker and keeping him out of harms way on Wednesday, September 3rd as he was found wandering around Grant Avenue and Hesperian. Tucker is a very well loved dog and our family truly appreciates everything you did to take care of him until we found him. He was discovered missing from our home on Wednesday morning around 8:15; prime traffic time on Grant Avenue...someone left the door open! We searched for him for 3 hours until finally notifying animal control. Yvette from Animal Control matched the description immediately (older dog wandering with a cone on his head.) He was located at the Fire Station in San Lorenzo. What a relief to find him safe and well taken care of!!! Thank you Station 22! And thank you to the stranger who notified the Fire Dept. And another special thank you to Yvette from Animal Control. Sincerely, Susan, Victor and Sophie...and Tucker!!

The men at this fire station are amazing. I cannot say enough good things about them. Backstory; I…read morerecently married my childhood, sweetheart. both of our fathers were volunteer fireman at Alameda county fire department back in the. 60s and 70s. brief version; I was to meet my fathers friend and get a tour of the fire house. unknowingly my father's friend, also brought his twin sons. After the introduction at the firehouse, I heard a voice, say" Hey dad, a new fire houses had dalmatians for a mascot. I didn't know that this one had a Dawna for one. Needless to say, this was our first encounter. in the beginning of our love story. after marrying this past September 2022. we went back to the firehouse to ask if we can take some photos of us and the firetrucks. Unfortunately, I did not jot down the two fireman's names . They told us how much they loved our love story. Joked around with us and we're extremely pleasant. They were so obliging. they opened up the firehouse garage doors and offered to take the pictures of us in front of the fire engines. the pictures turned out beautiful. We will be using them at our reception. Thank you, thank you thank you!
