The reasons I picked this particular station because: these were the same heroes that responded to the house-fire I was in back in 1998, this location is w/in a 10 minute walk from my current place of residency, and I wanted my Daughter to get introduced to the local community. A structure/sign and the American flag is a symbolic way to commemorate this station.. these men and women that put their lives at risk to save local citizens. I was proud when I took a picture of my Daughter holding the little care package we had put together in front of the structure. Since 1998, over 10 years later I was ready to meet the people that saved me when I was 16. Overcoming the physical part was not easy but the part that had me struggling day to day or when I am feeling down is my emotional state, my mental state.. trying to understand what really happened and why. I eventually did this.. I forgive and I forgot. That is my attitude and although I suffered.. I learned to move on. I am a single Mother and since my Daughter is on her summer break, I decided to take this opportunity to expose her to the community.. not just this fire station but I want to get her to visit the police station, the senior community, the hospital, the humane society.. all so she can accept that like her Mother.. although I have apparent physical features, I am still worth being treated normally like everybody else. Sadly- I don't get treated fairly most of the time. Anyway. When we rang the door, I noticed a safe surrender sign and picture which means you can surrender your infant at this station w/o any penalties or questions. Please- I cannot stand to read stories on the news about mothers killing their newborns. There is a way, people. If there is a will, there is definitely a way; a saying very old yet holds the most truth. We were greeted by a friendly fireman whom seemed surprised and glad we stopped by for a visit and to give them some dessert. They were having lunch and I felt bad for interrupting. The fireman gave my Daughter 2 stickers and took us on a brief tour and showed us the fire truck. The garage was lifted and there was this massive red vehicle before me that is responsible of putting out fires and first to respond to medical emergencies.. this very vehicle driven and occupied by these firefighters deserved to be awed at. My Daughter and I took a seat in the front seat and took pictures.. Yay! After we got down, we talked a bit about the house-fire I was in and the organization I can volunteer at if I wanted to.. a camp for burn victims and it's run by other firefighters from different cities here.. very cool. These guys truly enjoy what they do. They all stopped eating just to show my Daughter and I around and listened intently when I told them my story.. I was very touched. The firemen said we can come by to visit anytime, no treats needed and that this is our fire station and our fire truck.. they just help take care of it, that's all. Heroes. One time my son tested the new VOIP phone by dialing 9-11 and then hung up. Little did we know, just by doing that, they sent police officers to check on our well-being. Good luck getting police to respond to you within 3 hours or at all if you're in San Jose and calling for help for anything short of a murder. The police station is also a great place to meet up to sell on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace.

Thanks Officer Pizzo! Proceeding that, the visit to the police station or the records office was pretty efficient (granted that you arrive first thing in the morning). The two times I made a trip here last month, there was like one other person (s) ahead of me, but each encounter was quick and no long waits if you call their line. Parking at the MPD is not a problem, depending on the time of day you come in. My biggest gripe is that MPD charges you $15 for a CD your laptop or CD player doesn't recognize. Or maybe it's just my laptop. But that's why it's important to take your own pictures and videos at the scene of an accident, crime, photo-op, etc. Also MPD charges for paper copies of your report when everything is digital nowadays! This is my hometown and I've lived in Milpitas since the first grade (or early 90s) and as an adult, I can say I feel pretty safe in Milpitas, thanks to our community of police officers, admin, fire and EMTs. They sent out the fire department and they were there within 5 minutes. They helped me by counting all the pills and making sure that the right amount were there and ruled out that my son most likely didnt ingest them. They were very friendly and easy to talk to despite I was a little freaked out that all of this was actually happening. Thanks for responding so quickly and doing such a great job.

Jason, Rich, Peter and another gentleman who's name I cannot recall, were outstanding and couldn't have demonstrated a higher level of compassion and form of leadership. Tonight a pipe from the back bathroom burst causing chaos and flood. My parents who are elderly, and sickly were afraid and in a state of panic. I tried calming them and we ran outside to shut off the water switch to the entire building. We could not get in touch with management and were in deep concern. When my mother noticed a popping sound from the water heater we became increasingly fearful and called SJFD. We were them advised to exit the apartment until they arrived. Upon arrival of Engine 18 C, they quickly made sure we were safe and that the water heater was not a danger rather the sounds coming from it were simply reactions to the shutting off of the water which caused water temperatures to change. Once Jason saw we simply needed a plumber and advised us to call one out, pay for it and have the owner of the building reimburse us, I explained our unfortunate low budget. I explained how i am between jobs and my parents who are on fixed incomes could not afford to pay for a plumber. Jason and the others looked deep into their hearts and did not leave us. They went into the house and fixed the issue so that we could get through the night. I felt so grateful that after making sure we were safe, and that water heater was not a danger, they didn't just leave. They went above and beyond and got their hands dirty. Bravo guys. You all helped a single working mother and an elderly couple so much. This is the face of San Jose fire department. I salute and appreciate you all for your help tonight. Recently, a fire fighter walked into my small business and declared that we are now considered a…read morelevel 1 facility, which mean they want us to pay $700 per year. We do not store any large chemicals, but when I asked them what is the point of that $700, they told me that it was to "regulate" something. When I pushed them on how, they just said it was to regulate chemicals we have. Sounds more like a money grab. Not a good look for the city to send fire fighters around town just to generate revenue. I'm guessing underfunded pensions? I remember when fire fighters were in the business of protecting public safety, not shaking up local businesses for money. Kind of reminds me of when a gang member walks into an immigrant's small business and demands protection money.

These incredibly skilled and compassionate professionals went FAR out of their way to ensure the safety of a 90, 92 and 87 year old over the course of 48 hours even though it was NOT their job. The fire department is often there when no one else is to take on the hardest jobs, even when it isn't in their job description and we appreciate it more than you know. They don't complain, they don't grumble, they just get on with it. True professionals. I can't thank them enough for literally saving the dad, and ultimately saving my dad's life.

When I asked how I could be considered for shelter, I was told there was a long waiting list. I asked if I could speak with someone else or a supervisor because I was trying to find out what other options might be available. Instead, I was told she was going to hang up and that I could call back if I wanted. What was most disappointing was that there was no assistance with identifying other resources, no direction to another organization that might be able to help, and no meaningful information about what I could do next. I called because I needed help, and I left the conversation with no resources, no referral, and no solution.
