Fast forward months later, I see that there's a lab claim on my insurance for $1,500+ and that it's my full responsibility. How can this be, if I went to in-service medical provider? Well, apparently this provider only uses one lab called bio-reference lab unless explicitly expressed by the patient to use another. This is the most backwards ass thing I have ever experienced. How can you as a provider not do your due diligence to see where my lab work needs to go? Why is that my responsibility. Why wait for some nonsense like this to happen, when you could tackle the issue on the front end? Now there's a huge possibility that I have to pay this large bill for SIMPLE LAB work because office assistants don't want to go the extra mile to check. It's disgusting as hell and I know this issue is a massive problem within the American Healthcare itself. Providers need to do better. I'm a 23 year old woman that is new to the healthcare insurance enrollment period (that typically occurs in September/October) so if you refer back to my date of service you could see that this is months into using my new insurance after being on my parents. Why must people advocate for themselves when providers should be doing their damn jobs to make sure things like this don't happen. I had one of the office assistants tell me that they don't check the specific labs that will accept a patients lab work. WELL, I'm requiring and urging you all to implement better practices within your office. I took her word (afraid of risk) fast forward 2026 I'm 43 feeling very fatigue, brain fog, unexplained headaches etc. I expressed how my body had been feeling off one day at work and my supervisor suggested that I see a hormone specialist as she had been experiencing some of the same symptoms and found out she had a hormonal imbalance so I should look into because regular blood test will not show hormone levels there are specific test. I look for hormone specialist in Columbia, md and come across Women's Wellness , schedule appointment, get there and realize I had been here years prior but what the heck I'm here for a new issue. I wasn't seen by Dr. Okasi initially but the provider that I had did listen and we talked and she let me know my next steps, what test would be ordered and some other options I could take in regards to abnormally heavy menstrual cycles that I have been experiencing. I go through all test and exams it's time for follow up visit (telehealth) Once the appointment starts I notice a different doctor ( Dr. Okasi) and I'm a little thrown off because I expect it to be the provider I saw or be advised who would be going over my results with me prior to appointment ...anyway Dr. Okasi starts talking about my appointment years ago tubal ligation small talk but her cell phone rings ,she tells me one sec mutes and takes call...I sit on video just watching and waiting as she converses. When she's done she starts in on hysterectomy and ablations and how with my previous medical history ablation is off the table (c-section) and as far as a hysterectomy "she's not gonna do a hysterectomy on me and then I come back to her talking about she messed up this and that" I was a little taken back because that's exactly how she said it! " with your scar tissue your bladder is probably all the way up in there and can be affected during procedure" I'm looking and thinking wht the heck is going on, she proceeds to say you should take birth control pills to control some of the bleeding get an IUD ..I say " I've had in the past and had to have it removed because it wasn't good for me her response "get it again" ...huh?! or take the pill ....I'm literally starring and she says I'll give you a referral to another doctor ...referral reason says pt wants hysterectomy for bleeding..... not pt has fibroids, possible perimenopausal...etc. Ma'am, did my labs read normal? She did not go over the specific test, ranges ..a little high on the cusp nothing just said I know you see the internet talking about hormone imbalance but that's not real ... I said so your saying with all the symptoms I'm having it's normal? Your B12 is extremely high ...I ask why am I so tired still then ...so your saying all my test were normal? again she never really answers but says your blood work is like the bloodwork of a woman who's had a baby and lost a lot of blood ..... again!! Is that normal? Just take birth control pills you're gonna feel so much better and get an iron infusion. I wish I could give them 0 stars. On 12/31/10 I visited their office for a medical concern. The…read morenurse had my blood drawn for testing. They told me they usually get the results back in 1 or 2 days but definitely I should get a call back within a week. They never called. I contacted their office several times in January 2020, and routed to voice mail and sometimes the front desk person who promised to relay the message. I never received a call back. I contacted their billing office and explained I wanted my test results, the billing guy said he would relay the message. I never got a call back. I visited the Family Medicine office across the hall from them (whom they had referenced me to) and explained the situation--they said their would contact the office on my behalf. I never got a call back. Fast forward today- I revived a bill from Labcorp--this office billed me $614 for testing I never received. In fact, my insurance BCBS has already paid $525 for the testing which I never received. I called Labcorp who gave me their testing line. Labcorp will mail the results to me, of course I will have to analyze and interpret the results myself. This is the most incompetent doctor's office I have ever been to. That's saying a lot since I'm in the healthcare industry. I will not be back and I will also be changing the family doc, as I don't want to have anything further to do with these people.
