Ohiopyle State Park - Fall foliage

Ohiopyle State Park

I wish I had more time to explore the park as a whole, but I had an aggressive agenda where I had…read morepreset times to tour two Frank Lloyd Wright residential masterpieces, Kentuck Knob (review: https://yelp.to/_zBjRXaWxl) and the legendary Fallingwater (review: https://yelp.to/hQ179hIMk_). Motoring in my rented SUV through the gorgeous Laurel Highlands region, I had roughly an hour to drive the seven miles between the two homes right through this park. Right in the heart is a most worthwhile stop, Ohiopyle Falls, a twenty-foot waterfall that spans the wide Youghiogheny River over a couple of dramatic levels. The parking lot was huge and pretty empty, and it was a quick stroll to the broad observation decks that jut out over the river. There was a group of kayakers huddled together as they were preparing to navigate the whitewater torrents. The hamlet of Ohiopyle provides a welcome coffee break. We explained that the State Park Ranger had assigned the site upon checkin and mentioned nothing about a "No Dog Zone". They indicated that since we were checking out the next morning we would have to move. The officers were very nice however them being so heavily armed was a bit unnerving!! In Pennsylvania state parks, dogs are generally not allowed in swimming areas, inside buildings, or in designated non-pet overnight areas like cabins and group tenting areas. They are also prohibited in any area specifically designated as closed to pets. Responsible pet ownership is expected, meaning dogs must be leashed, attended, and their waste must be cleaned up!!! After a seven hour multi state slough we finally arrived at Ohiopyle State Park in PA. Site 139 was an easy back in however due to an afternoon thunderstorm there's no power to the campground upon our arrival but thankfully it came back on a short while ago! We've decided to enjoy a second day exploring the river, local sites etc. Really enjoyed our stay. While the entry roads are a bit tight the facilities were clean plus the staff was amazingly friendly. Highly recommended.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park - Amazing sunset on our first night here! *no filter*!

5 stars for the great and fun experience with the family, but 4 stars for the cabin we stayed in…read more Cabin - we stayed in Cabin 413. It has two bedrooms and each has two bunk beds. The size of the bunk beds were great! Mattress itself wasn't terrible, but wasn't comfy either (not a big deal at all). Each bedroom has one bathroom and shower. The sink is directly across from the bunk beds but the weird thing is that there used to be towel bar holders there - so no places to hang your wash clothes, hand towels etc. The kitchen is nice and has a gas stove, but this did not come with a stove light and fan. Another thing to note is that the deadbolt to the front door had no deadbolt - there was no bolt hub or bolt extension it was honestly the bolt face plate and thumb turn. Good thing the door knob locked with no issues The water park has 4 slides, a pirate water park, 2 pools(one pool had 2 basketball hoops) and arcade. Honestly I wouldn't waste the money in the arcade, but the water park and pools were great! The pool and water park were open from 1100-1900, we got there right when it opened and managed to have 4 lounge pool chairs. Definitely get there when it opens because as it gets later in the day it fills up quick! There were people laying in the grass because all the seats and tables were taken. The food was excellent! We got 20 wings, cheesesteak, grilled cheese, BLT, fries all around $40. The remainder of the time we spent there we cooked our food in the cabin kitchen and outdoor grill. I would recommend renting a golf cart. It's just easier to get around. We took the golf cart to a tractor ride, the playground right near the gate, mini golf, the ice cream shop, and overall was fun to just drive around and explore the campground. This was honestly the perfect small close getaway before the kids went back to school. Definitely enjoyed our stay here and will be back in the future - was heartbroken to see the damage that jellystone had due to the storm.

We came here on the first day of the season. There was a…read morebasketball court, Waterpark, jump pad, mini golf, and snow tubing but none of it was open. They said they wouldn't open the snow tubing because it was gonna rain but there was not a cloud in the sky that day. The spots are nice and so was the staff. The restaurant was apparently only open on weekends and when it was the weekend we ordered a pizza and it was burnt. There was fun Easter activities to do while we went such as, candy bar bingo, cookie decorating, and Easter egg hunt. This place would probably have been a 4.5 if anything was open and the food wasn't burnt. Overall I would say go here during the summer to have the best possible experience.

The terrain was challenging at times with rocks and fallen logs that required climbing. Areas also very muddy that could not be avoided. The path is clearly marked and getting lost would be something someone did on purpose! Across the street from falling water, the parking lot is behind the barn. Multiple trails of varying difficulty. Would definitely visit again.

This place is amazing!! A big thanks to Susan D and her list of hiking places for pointing it out! This is not to be missed if you're looking for some outdoor adventure and some great hiking along miles and miles of trails. We drove out here solely to spend a great fall day in the woods. Armed with trail maps we got online we picked out roughly the miles we wanted to hike and started off. What surprised us was the condition of the trails - amazing! Some were pine covered making for soft comfortable walking. Others were moss or grass covered and a few had some loose rock that you had to be careful with. I know this is Laurel Mountain but I was amazed to be hiking through dense forests of spectacular mountain laurel and rhododendron. What a gorgeous place! We were there after all the leaves were gone but we are sure to come back when the place is in bloom or in full fall color. We didn't run into a single person anywhere during our extensive hike ( we enjoyed it so much we went far beyond our initial hiking plan!). If you enjoy hiking and being outdoors, I highly recommend you give Bear Run a try. It's worth the drive!!
