I have been going to Hydrate to dance for the past 2-3 years, pretty regularly, because at first…read morethe music was very good, along with a nice light show. But recently, the music has been terrible, with last night's DJ (8/22/2026) being absolutely retched. His set was disjointed and he never kept a consistent beat. between every track he did the "build up" and the beat would actually stop for many seconds and we would all just stand there. It would completely drain what little energy there was. I left and went to Charlie's. Hey Hydrate management; at 2 pm there was still a line to get into Charlie's, where your club was morgue. Not good for a Saturday night. Get better DJs, or I won't be coming back.

Elixir is a perfect bar to continue the evening after dinner is over, but you want to continue the dinner conversation. Music is moderately loud, but it still feels cozy and comfortable. It's so easy for mezcal to go sideways in a drink. This was perfect. Service was fast, fun, and attentive. Although we were there with regulars, so no guarantees on that front. Elixir is definitely a place I'll be happy to return to, and I haven't felt that way about a bar on Halsted for a long time.

So much so, we hung out here two nights of the trip during my personal time and before my work conference. First the people here were extremely friendly. The gentleman that I spoke with about football and who was working the door was just a really cool, nice guy. We spent the majority of our time playing darts. Had a tremendous time doing so. Then headed into the back of the bar for some dancing. Drinks were good, although they were a little weaker, or maybe it was the type of vodka used, on Sunday night it seemed, but it was still, hands down, a cool place for a great time! I would recommend this place for 100000% sure!

You also might get cut in front of the line by a gay man trying to gatekeep you, a queer person, from the entering the space. I believe the words were, "This is my city, baby."
