Now here's a bar that's promodetely men attending, but it's fun and cozy and very welcoming to women. We walked in on saturday night after having a bad experience at a women bar nearby, my sister in law and her partner wanted to experience chicago bars coming from Orlando and Grand Rapids they wanted to dance and have a good time. We ordered drinks that were yummy and danced the night away, we watched the performances by cute young men on stage and felt welcome and safe between all the men in the bar. I would definitely go here again, the music was great, the drinks were great and the ambiance was awesome. A definite yes on Atmosphere in the Andersonville neighborhood. It's a cute bar! No lie, I'll start off by stating that the guy at the front door was awesome. I kinda had attitude, you know, for absolutely no reason, because do you need a reason these days? He was checking ID. Mind you, I was the youngest in my group. Everyone definitely looks 45+. I was like, really bro bro? We gotta check IDs?! This guy said to me, I'm sorry but chicago has strict policies, plus you look young. I was like, really?!? He looks at my license shocked at how old I am. He was like, you look very young. I gave him that smirk and nodded. My nigg* my nigg*. Haha that was my guy. 4 stars just for that interaction, although he probably gassed it. Other than that, same as other chicago bars, right now Chicago is still following strict COVID policies so there's really no real reason to go out if you want to club/dance/mingle. Wisconsin/milwaukee is far less strict. No comment from me on the drinks, as I just had a ginger ale. I'll say this, our server was not friendly. He was not helpful when we were confused as to why he had me pay for everyone's drinks. I just said "eff" it. And paid for it. But he had asked if we were going to run a tab or cash out our drinks. I said, I'll cash out my drink. Next thing I know I'm paying for everyone's. So there was some back and forth, but ultimately I just paid because I was so irritated. So the door guy was awesome. I won't be back. I lived three blocks away for five years and it was a regular hangout. Great to meet up with friends for "Stripper Bingo", Drag Race and dancing. The gogo's were always friendly (of course) and the bartenders Felix, Elliot, Jess and Jason were amazing - even on Fridays/Saturdays when the place was jumpin'. Tony behind the bar is a problem. He needs a career outside of the service industry. I've waited tables, tended bar and DJ'd so I know what I'm talking about. Tony is dismissive, unfriendly and has zero personality. Full transparency, I don't drink anymore. But I still go to atmosphere for bingo and to see my friends. And having a history in the service industry I tip well. Last time I was there he deliberately ignored me as I stood at the bar, twenty in hand, while he chatted with two of my friends...this went on for 10-15 minutes. The place was nearly empty. He knows I drink a Diet Coke. How hard is it to say hi, pick up the soda gun and press a button, while continuing to chat? He didn't acknowledge me at all so apparently he struggles with multitasking. So I won't be back. read more

First I'd like to say PLEASE FIRE CARLOS THE BARTENDER!!!!!! I was stranded in negative degree cold weather by my ex a week or so ago, I was walking for so long and I couldn't feel no part of my body. I was sure I'd d!e, that's when I seen the atmosphere was still open, I walked into this bar for help. My phone was dead and I had no way of calling for help most of the people were rude but 2 guys let me use the phone after the bartender disgustingly told me no that I can't use their phone and told me to "go away and get out". I called my father and waited inside because it was cold. The nice guys who let me borrow his phone asked if I'd like to connect my phone to his boyfriends charger and I said sure. He plugged it in and a few minutes later the bartender Carlos came and threw my phone at the guy and said "she can't use the charger or the electricity because she's not a paying customer, tell her to leave" he treated me like complete dog sh!t, like I was scum. Never will I forget the horrible people and the horrible hospitality of that disgusting place. I really hope Carlos gets fired, he's a very terrible and heartless person. read more

My partner and I stopped into @mosphere on a recently warm Spring day. We don't normally venture to Andersonville, but we went on a walk and found ourselves lost in conversation and happened to wind up there. After a little window shopping, we decided to drop into @mosphere for a drink during their weekend $5 well cocktail happy hour from 3-5. During pre-COVID times, we always stopped in during Midsommarfest, so this was the first time we've been that it wasn't shoulder-to-shoulder packed. Thankfully they didn't fall victim to COVID business shutdowns, and still had a decent amount of patrons in their new socially distant setup. We were lucky and got a seat up front by the open windows. The drinks are always great, the bartender was super friendly, and the music was solid, too. read more

Best gay bar hands down. Visited from Brooklyn NYC with my wife to chill and hang out. I identify as transgender so I was hoping to check out the gay scene in Chicago. This bar is almost on a corner, it's cute and big with GORGEOUS lighting on the inside. We were here in the middle of pride month so we were blessed with the new pride flag displaying on the lights in the back left corner. The security carded us and we went on our way. The bartender was attentive and the best part is they were playing funny falling videos on one of their huge displays. I've never watched america's funniest videos in a gay bar before lol but this was quite the experience. How dare I? How dare I give Atmosphere, an up-and-coming divey gay bars with adult cartoons playing on its TVs and a line of affordable draft beer options a single lonely star? Well the long and short answer is: their service is unforgivable. It's simple really, one night a friend went up to the bar and ask for some water, but was unfortunately denied of any, because, and I quote, 'you haven't bought anything yet.' Are we denying free bar services now? Isn't hydrating important on a nights out, Mr tender? Didn't it occur to you that some people might want to take a water break before ingesting more liquor, Mr tender? The logic around this situation astounded me, and inspired the rest of the group to leave the bar and never return. Also the man laughed at my friend when he asked for water. Where was the joke? Unforgivable. A shame that we have to base an image off an establishment from one (very poor) experience, but that's where we were on an emotional sense. Good luck with everything Atmosphere. I was assaulted at this bar several weeks ago, not only by a patron, but also by a bartender. A disagreement in the bar led to me being attacked outside the bar. And while I was being attacked, a bartender from the bar came out and pepper sprayed me. The Police refused to make a report on the bartender. I was battered and bruised and had to go to the hospital. The sad part is nothing will come of this. That is why it is important for my story to be told. read more

My brother and I had walked in. Ordered a drink. We wound up having to use the bathroom (obviously because we were drinking) I watched Matt (the gm) toss my brothers drink and when I went to ask him about it, he proceeded to give me a very sour attitude and threw a drink at my brother saying "shut up and take this" Never have I had such a sour experience at a bar. And having worked in the industry myself, I never gave my customers that much grief. There were some customers that said he was drunk because they bought him drinks. I fully expected that this morning I would be updating my review of @mosphere, raving about how wonderful they are. How sad that I'm going in the opposite direction. Last night was the latest in a series of Yelp Chicago Gay Nights. I chose @mosphere for the event because of their widely advertised Sabbath Stripper Sunday, with $1 well drinks, $5 martinis, and male dancers at 9pm. Imagine my surprise when I walked in the door at 7 o'clock to discover that they were hosting a benefit for Season of Concern, featuring storytellers from Serendipity Theater. And imagine my combined embarrassment and annoyance when they started scolding us for being too loud. Now both of these are admirable organizations, and I can understand performers wanting some quiet and attention while they are working. And if had had any idea there were going to be storytellers at @mosphere, I would never have scheduled an event there. But at no time over the past month since Gay Night was planned was there any mention of a benefit on the same night. Their Midsommarfest schedule was clearly posted; this week's "Club Manhunt" has been up for weeks; even the weekly trivia contest is listed. But the "please be quiet because people will be reading their stories" event? Not a sign. This, in spite of the fact the @mosphere's website has an Events page, which links to their Google Calendar of scheduled events. Oops. The woman from Serendipity Theater did tell me that the information was posted on their website, as well as on the Season of Concern website. So if planned to have dollar drinks and strippers at Serendipity Theater, I would have been fully warned. About those dollar drinks. No dollar drinks. When I went to the bar, I saw the special listed as $3 drinks. When I asked the bartender about it -- the surly bartender who took his surly time getting to me, despite the fact that I was clearly the only person at the bar looking to get a drink -- he said, "Oh yeah, we don't do that any more." To which I replied, "Better change the website, then." Because it's up there, clear as day. On the freaking home page. To which he replied, "It's on the website?" *sigh* As it turns out, the $3 price is a tremendous discount from the regular $4 price. And if these drinks were any more than $4, I'd be finding another bar. At this point, you may be wondering why I even give @mosphere 3 stars. In the end, it all turned out okay. The stories ranged from okay to pretty good, and most people missed the worst one, which was the first one. By 9pm, we were allowed to talk and act like we were in a bar. About the same time, the nice bartender started working, which was a huge relief. And some time between 9 and 10 -- 9pm in gay time -- the strippers started working. Well, you can't really call them strippers, since they started as undressed as they were going to get, and you can't really call them dancers, because even if they wanted to dance, their platform is about the size of a coffee table. But they were all reasonably attractive and 2 of the 3 were actually friendly and in a bar like @mosphere, you take what you can get. Which kind of sums up the whole experience. read more

The $.50 well drink specials lured me in and kept me on a bar stool for the evening. I got to flex some mental muscle by teaming up with my homegirl, Erika G. We blew the competition out of the water by winning at free trivia night! A sign for Sabbath strippers on Sunday with $1 drink specials is a little bit awesome. When it's nice, you can sit by the open windows and watch the activity on Clark St. Why I haven't gone in here before is beyond me. I'll be back. read more

This place used to be pretty cool...fun to have a cheap drink during the week, listen to some Morrissey and flirt with the shirtless bartenders of ambiguous sexual orientation. I went back recently (after a year or more) and it was SKANKY! I mean, I'm not gonna say I didn't watch the male strippers... or proceed to meet up with them at Stargaze and then go to Jackhammer with them...but SKANKY ;) Shameless! A fun and interesting Saturday night. I'm not sure if every Saturday has the same schedule but what we saw we enjoyed. When we first arrived there was a dancing/singing type thing going on (I have no idea what to call it. It was a group of people, choreographed, singing random Madonna and Boy band songs, in different arrangements of people). It was absolutely entertaining. After that, male strippers. Perfect bar for a bachelorette party (if you want that kind of party). Oh @mosphere! It seems you have an identity crisis. Please tell me: exactly WHAT are you trying to be? You have a lot of potential. It seems that you try to please everyone, but you don't really succeed. Sometimes there are strippers. Sometimes there's dancing. Sometimes there are drag queens. In the past, there have been cabaret acts. You never know what to expect. It is a nice space. It's clean, comfortable and nicely appointed. The drinks are good and reasonably priced and there are always decent specials. For all of this, the place rarely is busy. This bar is stumbling distance from my house, but I tend to avoid it. The staff is friendly and it has a good neighborhood vibe. These factors prompt me to give it three stars, although it 2.5 might be more like it. If I do pop into @mosphere, it's as a "first drink of the night" kind of deal. It's usually pretty quiet and makes for good "where do we go next" conversation. I just wish they could pull it together better. For a place that calls itself @mosphere, it rather lacks atmosphere. read more

It's a little trashy, but also a good time. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are of adequate strength. The dancers that I've seen the numerous times I have visited @mosphere have been decent and there's a variety of types and personalities. I compare it to Cocktail a lot in Boystown - both have similar decor and dancers, but @mosphere is nowhere near as crowded, which is a plus for me and my occasional social anxiety. I wont go out of my way to come here, like I would for Mary's Attic, but if I end up here I'm not upset about it. read more

I've lived in Uptown for over a year and a half. And when I came across this bar over a year ago... I found it to be refreshing to be away from the bars on Halsted. I remember discussing with friends how we were going to spend out summer up north, rather than going to BT... Summer came and went. I think I've been to Atmosphere 3 times since the first time.... I dunno what happened because we were ALL about it. I wish there was more pull to drive more traffic up there... It would be so much fun if we could get them to be busier!
