Plus the price was right (hayride or trail for $12, both for $17) First we went on the hayride. The line wasn't too long. 2 hayride operated and our wait time was minimal. I felt like the hayride was actually fun and a little spooky. There were little sets here and there. Creepy people came out at you, boarded the hayride with a chainsaws ect. One lady actually used a LIVE RAT and ran its tail over all of us.. So much for no touching lol. I was a little freaked out on the hayride and I'm an adult. The trail was also cool and well thought out. Again it had different unique sets and different people. At the entrance there are bon fires and a dj playing everything from top 40 hits to Michael Jackson. There are food services as well. I would say this is a pretty family friendly haunt. I seen kids as young as 3 on the hayride. The kid was a champ though because even I freaked out. I couldn't imagine my 5 year old niece on here so id say a good age is 8-10 and up based on maturity level. Not a bad deal. We had a nice date. If you're searching for the scariest haunted house this isn't it, but they put a lot of effort into it and it was pretty scary. I think its cool they cater to all audiences. I was surprised at the number of kids here.

That can only mean as the sun sunk low beyond the horizon it was time to choose a haunted house. Pittsburgh is not lacking for choices when it comes to ways to scare yourself at night. (I'm not even talking about the parade of horrors on the Southside or the underage drunk college kids screaming in Oakland.) In all the options my group of four decided to try a haunted house that was brand new. I realize that this can mean a subpar haunt, but I'm willing to chance it. Parking in the Strip District on the weekend is still dicey, (I don't know why I thought that dropped off in the 90's, maybe because I haven't hung out down there since the 90's.) but even with a larger vehicle we found a spot. There is absolutely no line outside, like with other haunted houses. Just a sandwich board type sign, an attendant, and a police officer (which was a surprise). The attendant instructed us in a very non-spooky way to just head down the steps. Once downstairs, the lights are low and a greenish blue color, the air somewhat fog-smokey. Tickets were 17$ a person which seems to be standard fare for a haunted house general admission. Inside the building we found the queue. Pallets nailed together to look like the sorts of passageways cattle are lead through in a slaughter house. They had a small flat screen television playing the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A few actors came out to interact with the crowd, one was great and doing just the sorts of things that key up an audience the other just sort of stood behind you and most of the time he moved on before you even knew he had been there. The woman who ran down the rules didn't stay in character very well, and this was a theme throughout the attraction. They do have a nice large space, some of the rooms are huge and sprawling with some really interesting pieces like old grocery store equipment, cases for meat, etc. There is even a school bus inside this basement haunted house. It has potential. That's the only real compliment I have for them. It's not there yet. If they can maintain this space all year, work on the look of each room, fine tune it from kitschy to horrific, hire more actors, and talk to them about focus and the theme of their character it could become another one of Pittsburgh's great haunted houses. For now though, it's just some stumbling, some incredibly awkward talk about every girl being a "nice piece of meat that (I) can't wait to eat," a few startling scares, and at least one if not two juggalos.

My family and live within a loud shout away so it's really convenient. They have amazing product, most homemade or homegrown, in their little store. It's just a real farm. And it's real cool too. But this haunted expedition isn't very scary. My almost 10 year old son was pretty scared though. I don't think they're trying to scare 40 year old dudes....Like I said though, my son wanted to turn around and go home but after one of the "creepy" fallout people (the theme is 1950's era nuclear holocaust yada yada) popped out of the orchard and slinked over to my son, slowly pointed her gnarled finger in his face and whispered to him, "do you want to be my friend?" His answer was a shaky but classic "I don't know." I just started laughing and my son laughed too. So then it became an awesome night walk in an orchard on clear and cold fall night. Which there are worse things than that. Why I gave this expedition a 4 star review is because every other thing I buy from Shenot's and every other event is top notch as I mentioned earlier but when my son and I arrived, the line was long and not moving at all. One of the guys that works there was walking down to the lower buildings, I stopped him and asked if we could upgrade to VIP. The wait was going to be brutal, I could feel it. He said no problem, he brought us up to the front of line and when I went to pay him the extra $20 he said "it was on him." His name is Sean. I hope I don't get him in trouble but it was a super-dope move on his part. And he saved my son and I at least and hour and a half of complete boredom. Sean and Shenot's are equally dope.

You can blow…read morethrough the whole place in probably 15-20 minutes or you can spend an hour or two depending on how much time you take to interact with the various exhibits and the "games" that are in the middle of the experience. I was leaning more towards four stars but stuck with three because it IS expensive for what you actually get, the space itself is pretty tiny and it can be a bit crazy if the admission slot you purchase is sold out. I have to admit, I liked this experience more than I thought I would. Sure, it has the tourist trap instagram photo spots, but it has some degree of an educational experience that I wasn't expecting. They have signage explaining some of the illusions and the science behind them. This is what I mean when I said you can blow through our spend more time. You get more out of the experience (and will spend more time there) if you take the time to read why the various illusions work. I'm a knowledge junkie, so this was really fun for me. Your best experience will be if you follow the guidelines they have posted. Each exhibit has places marked on where to stand to get the illusion and the best spot to take the photo. I have to admit, you can get some really creative and fun ones! Although those are the ones you often have a long wait for. There is very helpful staff rotating throughout the experience. I just wish they would gently push some of the people along that seem to take FOREVER to get the "perfect" shot. I came back to the building illusion (the one where you can make it look like you are hanging off the top of a building or sitting on ledge) and ten minutes later the same two girls were still taking pictures despite there being a line behind them. Exhibits are well maintained and the staff is informative. It should just have a lower price point for what you get. Parking is street parking (good luck with that on busier days) or you can park in one of the nearby garages (which would add to your expense). There is a gift shop on the way out with a variety of items ranging from magnets and pins to shirts and games. Is it worth a visit? Sure, but try to find a coupon or buy when they have some sort of promotion to make it more affordable.

The "famous" work is the polka dot room which is really intriguing and visually appealing. My daughter like to say "art is all about how the artist sells it and what you make of it" and this is the perfect place to put that mentality into effect. I saw Hedwig at Greer Cabaret Theatre on Sunday. They changed the script to include Pittsburgh references but decided to leave in the line "and the colored girls sing..." in reference to Lou Reed's song Walk on the Wild Side. There were millions of other lines they could have chosen to reference Rock N Roll culture. Why choose this line? Why have white actors say that line? Regardless of who Lou Reed was referencing in the song, describing people as "colored" has a very specific meaning in the context of the United States history. Furthermore, he has omitted the word "colored" from the song and has other questionable songs in regards to race. City Theatre is comprised of a predominantly white board, white staff, and this show was primarily white actors with a largely white audience.
