No longer a Scandic hotel, the Hadselbacken has a few issues, can be a bit dated in spots, but overall is in a great location and the rooms are very nice. It seems the hotel is going through a bit of a transition of sorts. The public areas feel very dated with lots of temporary signs, chipped paint and dated decor. The rooms however feel very modern and well appointed. A big issue (if you are there when it is warm) is the air conditioning is essentially non existent even though it is advertised to have it. Even on the coldest setting, the heavy Scandinavia bedding will have you sweating all night. It's wonderfully close to Grona Lund theme park if you are headed there and also within (long) walking distance to the city center. The front desk does sell limited snacks and drinks 24 hours which is nice as well.

Last August we stayed in central Stockholm near the train station at a very good hotel. Motel L is in a neighborhood called Hammersby, which is a bit outside of the central area so we were concerned about the location. It worked out great. Hammersby is a nice, quiet area and the hotel is on the main avenue with many restaurants and an ICA supermarket and pharmacy right next door. The 30 tram stops right outside the front of the hotel and we were able to easily get to all locations and areas of Stockholm using mass transit, or walking about 30 minutes. Motel also has a 25% off deal with an Italian restaurant called Grandi about a 10 minute walk. Grandi was very good and even better with the 25% discount. Motel L is clean and in very good condition. There is ample seating in the lobby area to relax and the breakfast room is also very nice. Breakfast was substantial, fresh, and had many choices. My wife and I had to resist overeating breakfast was so good. The staff kept re-stocking so everything was always available; the bread was so fresh and so good. Another plus is that unlike many hotels, breakfast on weekdays lasted until 10 am and on weekdays until 11 am-perfect for us! The people at the front desk were welcoming and very helpful. I'd like to give a shoutout to the frontdesk people I dealt with-May, Oliver,Alex, Yallen, Reuben, and Naiomi. Also to one of the breakfast people-Hendrik but everyone helping with breakfast was great. Two very minor things to note and be aware of-the hotel doesn't have a guest computer or washer/dryer. Bottom line, would we stay at Motel L again? Absolutely and we will on our next visit to Stockholm. P.S The rooms have lots of outlets and you have to look on the left side of the bed where there's a cubby hole with hangers for clothes. It isn't obvious so you can miss it at first. There's a bar and coffee station in the lobby, the lobby is very inviting.

The entry way to the hotel is stunning with a sweeping circular staircase, which is dramatic, but perhaps a bit scary for some people. large windows and a modern appearance made for an inviting welcome. As impressed as I was with the lobby, I was more impressed with the actual room, which was spacious and actually had room to unpack and store items. I loved the wood design (see photos) and the overall appearance of the room looked very Scandinavian. As noted by other reviewers, there is a hidden closet near the bathroom (which is also a bit hidden). The door swings out to reveal a hanging closet and a couple of storage drawers). The location of the hotel is perfect because it's very near the waterfront and very close to the old city. The access to restaurants and shops is close enough that you can walk anywhere. The included breakfast buffet was excellent with an egg station that made some of the best omelets I've ever tasted. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

Nestled near the Slussen metro station, the hotel offers stunning views of Gamla Stan and Riddarfjärden, making it a perfect spot for exploring Stockholm's historic charm and Södermalm's trendy scene. Check-in was smooth, with the staff warmly acknowledging my Diamond status. The room was spacious, modern, and impeccably clean, with a comfy bed and those iconic floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the waterfront. But let's talk about the design since nothing in this hotel is quite what you'd expect! Downstairs, the lobby and public areas are a maze of curves, with hardly a straight line in sight. It's like walking through a piece of modern art, which adds a fun, quirky charm to the experience. The room itself felt like a Jenga puzzle brought to life. The closets had an unusual, almost playful layout that made unpacking an adventure. The bathroom was anything but boring as its bold, unconventional design stood out with creative fixtures and a layout that kept things interesting. While the quirky aesthetics were memorable, they might not suit everyone's taste if you prefer straightforward functionality. The Diamond breakfast was a highlight, served in a bright space with a jaw-dropping view of the water and Gamla Stan. The buffet was fantastic, offering everything from fresh pastries and fruits to hot dishes and Swedish specialties like herring. The executive lounge, another great perk for those with access, was a stylish haven with tasty snacks, drinks, and that same gorgeous view. It was perfect for unwinding or catching up on work. The bar was a great spot for an evening drink, and the hotel's location made exploring nearby attractions a breeze. My only minor gripe was occasional Wi-Fi hiccups, but they didn't overshadow the stay. The gym and sauna looked nice, though I didn't get a chance to use them. For Hilton Diamond members, the breakfast and lounge perks elevate this hotel, and its bold design adds character you won't forget. The Hilton Stockholm Slussen is a fantastic choice for a unique, comfortable stay just be ready for some architectural surprises! I'd recommend it and would return, though I docked a star for the slightly impractical room layout.

Our room was clean and comfortable and although the building was very old, we had some creature comforts we didn't expect. Heated towel bars in a very nice and up-to-date bathroom. Dimming accent lights so you didn't bang around the room while the mad Russian ( aka Sveta, my love) was sleeping. An evening port wine cordial set up on a tray when we returned from a full day and night of sightseeing. There is an elevator right in the lobby that will take you to your floor and allow you to see the uncountable number of nautical ships and paraphernalia on display throughout the hallways and in your room. Even a new coat of paint in the bedroom would make a big difference. In the bathroom it is hard to move without bumping into either the tub, the toilet, or the sink. The futon mattress was not comfortable and any movement in the bed would shake the entire frame. One morning we had no hot water and had to take cold showers. The breakfast buffet was good but nowhere near as lavish as what we found in Norway for a comparable cost. The breakfast chef was excellent and very accommodating. Since the dining room was small you must make a reservation for your 45 minute time slot for every breakfast. The elevator was only large enough for baggage. The tightly wound steep stone stairs to our 3rd floor room were probably original from the 17th century. Although the hotel was rather full, our room was quiet at night.

Our location featured Private hostel rooms with Shared showers/bathrooms. The rooms were a decent size. They comfortably accommodated my mom and I. The shared living spaces were well maintained and cared for. The restrooms and showers were divided by sex. They felt safe and were not crowded. The hostel also featured a Nice kitchen and lounge area. For an introduction to hostels, this was a good buffer between them and a motel/budget hotel. I would honestly recommend this if you don't mind the shared spaces. It was definitely the more price savvy option!

WARNING! If you can't be bothered to read my diatribes about Skanstull's Hostel, you need to know…read morethat this place has bedbugs and most of the staff does not care. Vägglöss! Staying at Skanstull's Hostel was the worst travel experience of my life. I checked in on March 31st 2026. I stayed here for four nights and originally planned on staying longer, but I had to cut my trip short due to finding bedbugs on my futon in Room 43. In addition, I got bed bug bites after sleeping in my room. I booked it through booking.com, but I can't write a review there because my stay was technically cancelled. That's why I'm writing my review for this place on Yelp. I have provided pictures of my room and a screenshot of my refund from booking.com as proof that I have stayed at this hostel. When I informed staff that there were bedbugs in my room, the way that the staff responded to this issue (aside from the hostel owner Per) was horrendous. The front desk staff kept invalidating my concerns about having bedbugs and told me to brush it off. They kept refusing to give me a complete refund, despite that the room did not meet bare minimum standards for habitability in Stockholm. The middle manager even stated that he felt that bedbugs were not his responsibility to treat because other people bring them in. He compared bringing bedbugs home to getting the flu and said treating bedbugs at the hostel wasn't his responsibility. This is not compliant with Swedish hygiene regulations, which requires staff to treat bedbugs when found. The middle manager was also quite condescending towards me because of my nationality (American) - repeatedly stating that "bedbugs are normal in Europe". He also accused me of lying and said whatever he could in an effort to deflect responsibility. My initial request for a full refund was rejected and I was only offered a tiny 108 KR. The cleaner also lied to me and claimed that no one had stayed in the room before in an effort to shift the blame on to me, whereas the owner confirmed to me that someone had previously stayed in the room. The following day, I went to the front desk staff and was insistent that I wanted a full refund. Even the cleaner got defensive and told me that I should just brush it off. The staff basically thought that I should pay to be bit by bedbugs. The way that most of the staff reacted with such extreme defensiveness and hostility makes me wonder if they were already aware of an underlying bedbug issue. The middle manager told me that the hostel had dealt with bedbugs in the past (1-2 years ago). I suspect that my experience may have been the result of an ongoing issue, given that several staff members knew there was a past bedbug problem and feel that bedbugs aren't their responsibility to treat. Despite that Swedish hygiene regulations for hostels clearly state otherwise. It was not until I escalated and talked to the owner Per that I was finally offered a complete refund and an alternate place to stay. No effort was initially made by other staff to address the situation. The owner Per also told the front desk staff to cancel all reservations for Room 43 until it is treated, which the front desk staff was not originally planning on doing. I am grateful for the owner's response in this situation, as it heavily contrasts how I had been treated by other hostel staff. He did the bare minimum that any hotel employee should do. Due to this situation, I returned home to the U.S. earlier than expected and had to throw out nearly all of my luggage. I lost much of my wardrobe because I did not want to risk bringing an infestation into my apartment. For those who are not American and happen to be reading this review, something important to understand is that bedbugs are extremely taboo in my culture. If an American brings back bedbugs from their vacation and their apartment develops an infestation, their landlord can evict them and they can become homeless as a result. This is something that's very common in America. For us, encountering bedbugs is very frightening. I understand that some cultures don't take bedbugs as seriously, but I wish that other staff had at least been respectful and taken some degree of responsibility. It is worth mentioning that myself and another girl staying at the hostel also experienced sexual harassment on behalf of a man staying at the hostel. This is not the owners' fault, but I do think it gives some insight into the sorts of people who stay at this hostel. Due to the behavior of this guest, my friend feels scared to leave the hostel or walk around the common rooms without her boyfriend.
