The program is open to ALL…read morestudents in the district (you don't have to live in Crescent's attendance area) who are in grades K-5. The program basically works like this: parents volunteer one day a week in the classroom, for approximately 3 hours. This gives teachers more one-on-one time with students, parents get to be hands on with their child's education, and it builds a community rarely seen in our busy world. The teachers are dedicated, going above and beyond what is required. We've had a volunteer choir when no music program was available through the district. We go on field trips, and fund raise so that EVERY student goes on the field trip with no worries about cost. I have the enviable position of knowing all the parents of my child's classmates as well as all his classmates. Students who are exceeding grade level work can go to the next grade level up for that particular subject, and aren't going into the classroom of a teacher they are unfamiliar with. Students requiring additional attention are able to receive it, by parent volunteers in the classroom AND their teacher. There are family gathering events, from Winter Concerts to potlucks. We have a "Dad's Day" where dads, grandpas, uncles, etc. come in and share something about their jobs or hobbies. Last year we had a Vallejo motorcycle police officer and the kids (and a few teachers!) got to sit on his bike, there was fishing, working on electronics, trying on military tactical gear and much more. There are special themed centers for holidays, a monthly Books & Bagels event for kindergarten & first grade, and there was talk of starting a robotics team this coming school year. Knowing all the benefits of this program as well as the opportunity to be in there, not just attending PTO meetings, had made all the difference for me. My child loves it and is successful in school, I love it, and I want more families to know this is an option for them.

Every other school in the city ,state maybe even the nation allows parents some sort of access to their teacher . Here ..you need several days advance to visit your child's classroom. You can't just pop in ,sign in at the office at a visitor and check out what's going on in the class room for 10-15 minutes or so LIKE MANY MANY PARENTS ALLLLLL ACROSS THE STATE are allowed to do. You can't even show up 30 minutes before school starts to have a quick word with your child's teacher . You're instead referred to someone in the office who has NO FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE about the goings on of specific ,classroom or play ground incidents. These office higher ups are only privi to information LOGGED in to a computer by the teachers or recess aids . They run the school more like a company than a school. There seems to be a huuuuuge disconnect with PARENT INVOLVEMENT!!! And it's suspicious!!! I repeat this school is NOT for parents who like to be hands on, immersed and involved in their child's schooling . They make it SOOOOOOO difficult. He canceled every staff meeting last school year and doesn't ensure collaborative time on short Wednesdays is utilized by teachers. Our children's instructional time is wasted! He puts his work on other staff members. The academics at this school have dropped considerably. There is no data-driven decision-making by this incompetent leader. He has been observed making comments about the staff members whose husbands abuse them and who do and do not come from money. He has created a culture of gossip. Many families are choosing to remove their children from this school. I encourage you to do the same.

Wow... Didn't know you could review school districts here... Well here it goes…read more.. With the current board members (pre-2010) the board sucked... Left the district in a financial mess. Made alot of poor decisions when things where "good" but left no room for error when the recession hit. On top of that there recent decision to segregate the civilian kids from the military kids based on a Base Commanders whim was not entirely thought out. Then tried to cover it up by saying civilian families pose a security risk... Then why are we still having to go thru the main gate a year after the board made the decision hmmm? I can't wait till 2011 so I can help vote out the remaining board members who got us into this situation... Gave an extra star because I hope we are on the road to recovery with the two new board members that where elected this year...

My children have received several character awards, and I received numerous phone calls when they exhibited leadership at the school. One of my girls is in an IEP program. The teachers didn't treat her any differently, and my wife and I didn't perceive a stigma being placed on her. She's received and celebrated. My beloved children are bright and talented; however, their character is the tripod for carrying their brilliance to humanity. Particularly 2003 was the worse time for the school because my class was notorious for being loud, mean, and just a bunch of bullies. Now looking at those teachers and former classmates, they're not any better than they were. Hated the people at this school.
