Despite the awful King's Cross location Scala is a great venue for live gigs. It is small enough, to make the experience feel more intimate. The decoration is quite rough and worn out, like a true rock venue should be. However I don't find their program most innovative there is so that is why I don't end up going that often. It used to be better? Also I have been dissapointed with the club laim evenings when ever I have been there, so at the moment I just stick with the gigs, when ever there is one! read more

I have been here once for the night club, it was my first experience in London, and i thought i was the cool one. dressed in a hot pink shirt with awesome leggings, and little did i know it was a rock club and you can dress cool with jeans and a t shirt and maybe even add a red tie, why not. If you like rock music, then hey jump up and down and your good to go. If you like rap, hip hop, then your in the wrong place. It gets pretty crowded in here, you start to sweat and you feel like you want to get out. There are several levels, but I believe the second floor is the best, biggest place to dance on the dance floor. Plus if you stay late, then you can listen to a live band play. I have some happy memories of this venue and it remains one of my favourites. The stage is really spacious,the sound good and its a good sized venue for live gigs with a 550 capacity. its also a good one for dancing and DJ events with a larger capacity for these types of nights. read more

The Scala is a multi-roomed venue in London's Kings Cross area. On a good night, every room in the place will be filled with DJs and bands until the early hours, and if that happens it's an amazing place to have a club. Although it's a little like a maze when you're drunk, the Scala is a great venue to be in if you're up for non-stop-all-night-partying although not so good if you just want a sit down. Drinks are fairly expensive but are, if i recall, 2 for 1 before 10, which makes it slightly less painful. read more

The Scala is the hidden gem of all London music venues. With a capacity of under 1,000, it creates an intimate vibe and has hosted many up and coming stars as well as secret shows for stadium filling acts across all genres of music. Also, unlike most London venues, it has a very plush interior, is well designed with a dance floor, elevated stage and raised platforms around the dance floor. No matter where you are in the venue you get a great view of the stage and the sound never fails to dissapoint. Essentially, if an act you know of or would like to see live is booked at the Scala, it would definately be worth your while to check them out. read more

It is a nice enough venue that maintains it intimate feel. The wheelchair access is not so great as you can guess from such an old building but the management and staff made it easy as possible for me and my partner to come down and see my favourite band of all time - Wire. They just got five burly blokes to carry us up the stairs and, before we knew it we were set up at the side of the stage with a great view of the band. So much so that I was standing next to Colin Newmans missus who blagged me a signed setlist! What a great night out! Thanks to all the staff at the Scala for making it a great night out! read more

This really small concert hall is normally for small local bands but as i think some one has already said you can get some big bands playing special gigs here from time to time and they are normally really cheap and you get the most amaxing view. I saw the ark thier once and it was one of the best gigs iv erver been to. read more

I've been to the Scala many times for gigs, my favourites being Interpol, Battles, and Les Savy Fav (a truly crazy but very entertaining show). The venue itself is fairly small, with steps leading down to the main stage, and an enclosed upstairs bar area (not that I've ever got to go in that bit, as its usually reserved for VIP's at the gigs I've been to). The stepped arrangement is excellent as it means wherever you are you get a good view of the stage, and there is a small seated area along the back, great for those of you who like me have dodgy knees. The toilets are a bit scarily lit but well maintained, and the bar is usually well stocked and offers bottles of coca cola, which I think is much nicer than the usual over priced watery pint that you get in other venues, even if they are expensive. The bar area also has some comfortable seating and a small merchandise area, good for relaxing during bands, or for time out from the hot and often crammed arena whilst the bands are playing. Easily accessible from Kings Cross station, its a nice venue and one that I'm happy to keep going to for a nice night out. read more

The Scala (or "La Scala" to the initiated) is not really a location, but a state of mind. Though drinks are fairly pricey, they are downed quickly. Sweat drips from the walls in the lower rooms where bodies shake to equally sweaty beats. Sunglass-wearing women and close-shaven men decorate the dark corners of the upper bars. Stilettos spill down the stairs and in and out of washrooms. At some point you just have the feeling that someone is going to drag you up onto one of the stages to dance(after the main act of the night has vacated, of course). This would probably be the correct moment to leave, but it seems in La Scala there's always one more shot, one more look, one more song that you or one of your flanking and flagging friends just has to dance to. Teatro alla Scala The Scala is quite a good venue. It's a beautiful old building, and while the dancefloors may get packed out, the main bar area is massive with high ceilings so you can escape the claustrophobic feeling of most clubs. The rooms all play very different music which is normally excellent. The small back room is miniscule and can get quite crowded, but they thoughtfully installed an air conditioner at the entrance to cool you off! read more

Scala was originally (and excitingly, amongst other things) a 1970's adult cinema! and the building has a really rich history that you can read all about on it's website. These days, it is a huge multi- purpose venue that hosts gigs, club nights and arts events. I frequented here when i first moved to London every Friday for Popstars (more of that later) and Saturday for their indie night. The sheer size of this venue (capacity is well over 1,000) means that there is always some thing different going on, on any given night. There are four floors, three bars, two dance floors and one huge stage for performance, music and mayhem! There are also corridors, nooks and crannies for you to do some hiding or some snogging! Popstars used to be the absolute best gay night in London (it's lost some magic since moving to Sin) but when it was here it was literally some of the best nights ever. Overlooking the crowd of glittery, feathery, bopping queens this straight girl felt like she's landed in studio 54 gone gay and i LOVED it! Entry depends on the event but is never cheap, and the maze like quality of the place means it can sometimes be difficult to find your friends of you become separated, but it's really good fun for a dance and some misbehavior. read more

Scala is a good nite out with many rooms to enjoy all sorts of music.Defiantely a good nite when ur dru as it hard to fid ur way around.Drinks a u know anywhere now a days is rising so expect to spend a few bob but hey thats what going out is all about lol. read more

This is a very big venue which is in the King's Cross area of London and can be reached fairly quickly from the station. This place is open late into the night, 3am if I remember correctly and is a great place to be at if you want to have a smashing good time when your drunk. On the topic of being drunk, if you bring less than 50 quid it's unlikely you will - the drinks are quite expensive but there are a few offers such as if you get there before 10pm and buy a drink, it's 2 for 1. Very good music and DJs always. read more

When I suggested to a friend that we go to the Scala on a night out, she was horrified and stated we'd get shot if we go there! Obviously that didn't actually happen. I know that the Scala has a it of a bad reputation but I think it depends on which club night you're going to. I also went there for the White Mischief steampunk night which was great and really suited the venue, with live performers on both upstairs and downstairs. Drinks are pricey but I know I've bought bottles of pear cider for around £3 on special offer, which is not bad. read more

i love this place perfect nighout place

A great gig venue that has the feel of a backroom of a pub, but all the better for it. Not the biggest, but this means you can get a good view from all around. There's also a good mix of music, so you also get good club nights as well as live bands. The only problem is the drink prices - I paid over £3.50 for a Carling, which even for London is extortionate. read more

I've been to a good few shows at the Scala and have always had a great time.

This venue is huge and has several floors but the organization is not so good. Me and 5 friends went out there last night for what was called "the end of the world party" and they had three make-up artists making up people's faces, who were really good to be honest. However, there was another girl in charge of supervising the queue and of coordinating this make-up thing and she made us so angry. She came to us when it was almost our turn (after 30 minutes waiting) and told us we had to go back to the end of the line because "she hadn't seen us there". I tried to argue that we'd been there all the time but she just was rude and sent us back. Then I started to observe her and noticed she was sat next to one of the make-up artists talking to her, typing in her phone, brushing her wig and DRINKING ALL THE TIME. It surprised me to see her tipsy and I just found it completely unprofessional. Eventually, only 2 of my friends got their faces made up because the artists had finished their working hours. I guess we had bad luck because other people say this is a fun club, but personally I would go to other nightclubs in London rather than this as there are lots which are quite similar. read more
