SB Tree Care does excellent work at a very affordable price. Today was the second time I've used them to do major tree work... and was it a doozy! I called the county first to make sure it was OK to remove trees from the alley that runs next to my house. I received word that I could indeed cut down the palm and wild tree that had sprung up over the last 7 years. A literal tree hugger from across the street dashed over and exclaimed. "I will defend this tree with my life!" This tree makes a colossal mess in my yard and she is not the one who has to clean it up! I would like to thank Chris' son for diffusing the situation before I turned the sprinklers on her. I had my hand on the nozzle... it wouldn't have been pretty. She called the Sheriff and two cruisers show up. I gave them the guy from the county's info and they told her that I had permission to take it down. UPDATE: The owner of the company finally got back in touch with us about repairs, and has resolved the situation by managing the repair and painting of the damaged wall. BEWARE! If I could give less then 1 star I would. How disappointed we are in SB Tree Care. They have serviced our trees several times and most recently they had an accident that resulted MAJOR damage to an exterior wall. When the accident occurred no one called to tell us the damage had occurred, imagine our surprise when we came home. This tree service recently pruned my neighbor's oak tree. One thing that they can improve on is to be more aware of where the property lines are between homes. At the beginning, they were walking all over and putting their heavy equipment and tools all around the small plants in the landscaping on my property (which wasn't the property they were working on) and ended up partly crushing one of my agaves (see photo). It will recover, but it would have been nice not to be crushed. ;) If they were more aware of property lines to make sure that all equipment and employees stayed on the property they were working on, it would greatly improve their service. Crew was here promptly at 8am and remarkably had a 50 foot cedar completely removed and chipped by 9:30. Stump grinder showed up within a couple of hours, so all was taken care of same day. Chris and his team do professional tree trimming work. I've used them many times to trim our trees and work with neighbors to trim their trees to best maintain our view. They are very good at thinning oaks and trimming even the most obscure shaped trees to look nice and attractive without hacking them back to look like stubs. No! SB tree care is a professional company, however they severely pruned my neighbors oak trees reducing the canopy dramatically. The trees will now struggle to cover the exposed branches and trunks with suckers to prevent sun damage and dehydration. Removing all the lateral branches and leaving only the growth on the ends of the branches as they did will also make them vulnerable to wind damage. Pruning this heavily in spring will put the trees through excess stress in the hot summer months when they need the canopy to protect them. If you hire them be very clear what you want and watch them. It all happens very fast and the results will take years to heal. These native coast live oak trees are now permanently damaged. read more

Was referred by our neighbor for topping our Sycamore Trees in the front yard. I had asked Chris before work started that his crew leave behind pieces of my tree that they cut down; I thought since I was spending $1,850.00 for the job that this would not be an unreasonable request. I even asked the crew during the work for scraps of wood, but instead it disappeared. Do not trust this company. I called Chris to let him know, that the crew did not do that, and he stated that he would personally drop off wood that he had at his yard... DID NOT HAPPEN. Not only did they thrash my front yard with holes in my grass from trunk cuttings, but they also kept letting pieces that they cut off drop on top of my roof, with a loud thunk. Several times, I had to go outside and politely ask them not to let limbs come crashing down on my roof to no avail. They also took out all my low voltage path lamps in the front yard. Which I had to repair on my own. Save money and time go find someone else for your tree care needs. read more

We called SB Tree Care after two other local tree companies completely flaked on us - we should have called Tree Care first. Chris (the owner) came for the estimate on-time; it was quick, painless and very reasonably priced for the 6 trees we were looking to have trimmed. Chris also expressed a deep knowledge of his profession. We were able schedule an appointment that was convenient, and did most of our communication via IM, which was handy - thought they were also responsive by phone. The crew showed up exactly when they said they would, without reminders, and were very friendly and courteous. They went to town on our trees, especially a large oak that needed some extensive thinning and TLC. The crew asked throughout the day how things looked; and I was able to provide input here and there, until everything was perfect for us. Chris came by intermittently to ensure everything was going well. They finished ahead of time and left things cleaner than when they started - very impressive! Chris did a nice job on three avocado trees on our properties. Nicely trimmed, cleaned up behind themselves and hauled away everything. The price was reasonable and the job was completed on time. Unfortunately the fence we contracted Chris to build for us was another story. I'm not sure where the disconnect occurred but it ended up 6 inches further back than we requested. At least I t was further into our yard than the neighbors, so it isn't a land grab on our part. The redwood was construction common grade and looks poor when compared to other redwood fences in the area. Apparently this was the only available material in the size we requested, but we didn't find that out until the fence was complete. They did not clean up behind themselves and filled half of our trash can with trim wood and cement sacks. No, we didn't get the bid in writing, which is our own fault. Lesson learned with SB Tree Care. Five for the tree trimming, one for the fence, three overall. read more

I had a huge palm tree growing in my front yard that began to encroach on my roof. I got three estimates from tree care teams and all three said it was a painful job because of the size of the tree and the proximity to the house. Plus teams were hesitant about the job because of all the hauling and disposal of the palm fronds. Some other companies wanted triple the price or just walked away as soon as they saw the location. Also, the tree was not only large, but in electrical wires with a shed under it.
