I contacted a number of companies for a major clean up in our new Santa Barbara home before deciding to go with Jorge and the crew at SB Evolution Landscape--am I am very, very happy that I did! We have 1/3 of an acre with oaks, cactus, succulents, tropical plants, ivy, dead trees, numerous invasive plants, and more, that was suffering from years of neglect. We were ready to move forward with new landscaping but needed to tear out and clean out before getting started (we are doing the bulk of the work ourselves). At our initial meeting, Jorge was punctual, polite and responsive. He listened to our plans for the garden and offered clear solutions on how to attain them. Once we finished our long and thorough walk through, he went through the yard a second time to take notes. His provided a very detailed and fair quote the following day. His crew arrived today and they did a tremendous job in the sweltering heat of one of the hottest days of the year. Not only did they tackle the though jobs (removing numerous prickly pears and very old, stubborn tree stumps), they even took the time to pick up stray weeds and bits of roots/sticks as they worked. They had fantastic attention to detail. At the end of a very long work session, the foreman asked me to walk through the property to ensure they had done everything we asked. When I pointed out a couple of oversights (there was a lot to keep track of!), they quickly took care of it. He even had me walk through a second time to make sure we were happy. Hands down a 5 star experience with Sb Evolution! Sb Evolution has been landscaping and gardening for us for about two months now, and I honestly can not speak highly enough about them! When we first came to them both our front and back yard were in desperate need of some TLC and landscaping. Our past gardeners had poorly attempted to help landscape our front yard working with what was already growing (even if they were weeds or unwanted plants), but they stayed far away from our desolate desert of a backyard besides the occasional leaf blowing of weeds. Needless to say we needed to call in some pros! Sb Evolution came to our rescue, after a very thorough walk through of our property. Following the walk through, an informative discussion in which the landscaping process was broken-down step by step and a general financial estimate was given. Several days before Christmas, my roommates decided to by a Christmas tree, as it seemed we were finally out of danger of evacuation from the Thomas Fire. I am in my 50's and my roommates are in their 60's and 80's. They picked out a tree and paid for it, and asked that I pick it up in my truck on the way home from work. When I got to the Christmas tree stand I was shocked at how big the tree was, and the guys who were loading it into the truck said that they didn't see how us 3 senior citizens where going to get in to the house and up the stairs where it would be displayed. I agreed. I didn't know what we were going to do. As I was driving home 3 young men where in a truck behind me, and I signaled to them to follow me as I made a left turn on to my street. To my surprise they followed me. Out of the truck came 3 nice young men from SB Evolution Landscape and they kindly helped me get my tree to the upstairs apartment. Jorge was very professional throughout the process of installing a new irrigation system. It began with a review of our property and our needs. Jorge completed a written estimate - which many other companies we contacted failed to submit; and when we required further clarification, Jorge came back for a second "walk-through." Jorge gave us a start date and estimated completion date. The work involved removal of the old system and installation of a new drip system. The work was completed per contact, including hauling off old equipment. Jorge had one of his staff do a follow up visit to ensure our satisfaction with completion of the work, and did a final "walk through" himself. Jorge is a "hands on" manager, who sees that his staff does thorough work. The cost of the project was in line with other estimates that I had received, but I felt confidence in Jorge, and he didn't let us down. read more

Our condo complex has used SB Evolution Landscape three times now, after having an initial yard cleanup with bush and tree trimming job quoted by several local companies. The reason for returning back to them and not considering a competitor was the top-level service for very reasonable pricing, and the courtesy and professionalism by the staff over the phone and by the workers on site. The work was always carried out as defined by our initial consultation agreement, which allowed for any final adjustments to the work detail before the agreed-upon day and time to start. The jobs typically entailed Eugenia shrub trimming for our hedge line, low branch clipping of other small trees and a yucca plant, stump removal for some small cut trees, and general weeding and yard cleanup. Although it was short notice, he squeezed my project in between larger projects, and to meet my deadline, they even worked over the weekend. I asked for 'some sort of paver' and came home to a beautiful, hand-cut slab of sandstone. My patch of land was too small to order the kind of sod I wanted, so Jorge drove to L.A. to fetch what I needed. And his team (Jesus, et al) is terrific - friendly, hard-working, and they made good decisions on their own, doing little extras as if it was their own back yard. Out of the blue I noticed my duplex yard was much nicer. I'd been asking the previous gardeners to do certain things and nothing happened so I checked and learned that we had a new service and they are terrific. They actually looked at the property as if they lived here and wanted it to look nice. They cleaned up the wildly overgrown areas and started trimming everything carefully and neatly. Every week there's a new neatness to the back yard. I'm very impressed with their work and sensitivity to the property. When I asked about a specific problem they responded with a genuine concern to understand and get it right which they have and cheerfully so. We are very grateful to have found SB Evolution. After last winter's rains, our yard had started to get out of control. They responded quickly when contacted, provided a reasonable quote, came and performed the job that was requested, and left the yard clean and managed. We have used SB Evolution for maintenance gardening ever since. The staff from SB Evolution are dependable and meticulous. Typically, on any given visit, we are asked if there are any areas where we want special attention, and when there are, they follow through exactly as asked. We've hired other gardeners/landscaping companies in the past, but they typically started out with a bang then seem to lose interest. Antonio visited and explained what all was needed for my sprinklers to function properly. The prior tenants had roto-tilled and broken an underground line by torsion on the sprinkler head. Antonio fixed that well. The tenants tried to explain what other work was needed but it seemed unclear. Antonio visited and showed me. Several sprinkler heads were gurgling rather than spraying. Antonio clearly pointed out what was wrong, put flags on each problem location and suggested maintenance to prevent future problems. We're in several years of now stage III drought so I've decided to not use the sprinklers. ...but I know what needs fixing and can get that done if I ever wish to sell the home. read more

Owner Jorge Cortez was extremely knowledgeable and caring when we changed our front lawn from grass to drought-resistant plants. Instead of the expected change from sprinklers to drip, he recommended mini-sprinklers that we expect to work well as the vegetation grows. For years, for us and the home's previous owners, this company has been caring and effective in its work. SBEL has been handling our gardening maintenance for about 5 months now and we've been very happy with the service. We did an initial clean-up package and now get bi-weekly visits to keep everything under control. Our yard has a lot of diversity in terms of bushes, hedges, palms, shrubs, etc etc and the team at SBEL keeps all of it dialed in for us. SB Evolution cleaned up and attended to our sprawling back lot and orchard, trimming fruit trees, clearing detritus, and generally cutting up and disposing of all the underbrush, weeds, leaves etc. This was a 3-day job and their staff absolutely tore through it, resulting in a space that we're now delighted to look at.
