I started seeing Hayden shortly after moving to San Diego five years ago. My mom had just died, my…read moremarriage was falling apart, I was fairly newly sober, and I was struggling with childhood trauma issues. On top of all that, the anxiety and depression that had plagued me my entire life was rearing it's ugly head. I had already been to three other therapists in San Diego, but i just couldn't find the right fit. I found Hayden on Yelp and was hopeful that he might work for me because of his great reviews, even though at that point I was feeling hopeless that I would ever find the help I needed. I'm not sure what we talked about that first year. I don't think I really said much to Hayden at first since I was working on trusting people and as a rule, Hayden doesn't talk much - his style is more thoughtful listener who empowers people to find their own truth. What he also does - and I'm not sure quite how he does it - is to create an incredibly safe, non-judgmental, and professional environment for healing to take place. He held space for me for months until I was ready to really confide in him. During that time I sometimes didn't like him (because I didn't like anyone then!) and I was sometimes annoyed that things weren't happening fast enough. Or that they were happening too fast! But once I was convinced without a doubt that what I sensed from the beginning was true - that Hayden was a knowledgeable therapist that genuinely cared for his clients - I was able to really start making progress and start healing.
