Never again. Course…read morewas in horrible condition minus the greens, the trees are overgrown on to the fairways to where you couldn't hit the ball at a normal height on about half of any given hole, the grass needed cut, the dining areas have not been updated since the 1990s, and the staff was pretentious. The golf carts were outdated and poorly maintained. During the banquet reception, the speakers' microphones kept going in and out. Nobody cared to step up and replace them. I was embarrassed for the club. It was sloppy. I would have been extremely mad had I paid to play that course. Luckily I didn't have to pay because it was a company sponsored event. Right now, I'd question playing this course again even if I got to play for free. I think I'll just stick with playing at my club and save the drive. The place needs new ownership and management. They just need to start from scratch.

My neighbor gave me a driver, and my son and I went to Birdsfoot on a recommendation from another friend. We started out with talking to a couple golfers in the parking lot. They were pleasant people, told us where the driving range is and whatnot. We then went inside the clubhouse and got the tokens for the ball machine. Very pleasant staff, cold drinks in the cooler behind the counter, and the prices of the balls were cheaper than I expected. We got to the driving range, and it was awesome. We hit 4.5 big buckets between the two of us, and had a truly great time. We will be going back for sure.

The Seth Raynor layout boasts template hole designs such as Punchbowl, Eden, Cape, Redan, Alps, and Biarritz. The front nine features more template holes than the back with the inward nine showcasing more hole designs unique to Fox Chapel. Like all Raynor courses, Fox Chapel focuses much more on good architecture and having fun rather than a punishing challenge. The result is a layout that you look forward to playing every time out whether it is with your buddies, spouse, or kids. The family friendly club delivers a parkland layout that caters to all handicap levels with a modest level of forced carries and non grassed areas with additional facilities that include fine and casual dining, a swimming pool, and tennis courts. Raynor conceived a routing that makes it one of the easiest and most enjoyable courses to walk that you'll find, especially considering the rolling terrain. This feature helped Fox Chapel secure the 2002 Curtis Cup and the 2012-2014 Senior Players Championships. The layout also lends itself to Fox Chapel boasting a healthy caddie program with three levels of caddie experience to choose from while those that don't wish to walk being offered a cart for their round. Bottom line, Fox Chapel is a flagship example of how to deliver a club that attracts families through great amenities, service, and a Top 100 golf course that is flat out fun for every handicap level. In conclusion, I wish Fox Chapel was my home course. The routing is a ton of fun with brilliant versions of Redan and Biarritz; my favorite par three designs. From the scratch golfer to the guy taking his family out for a round, Fox Chapel beautifully caters to a wide swath of golfers with the enjoyable architecture that only Seth Raynor could deliver. A top five course in Pennsylvania, don't miss an opportunity to play here.

I will say that the course is nice and in good shape, but ultimately, the staff and atmosphere…read moreleaves room for improvement. When we arrived, we were greeted politely by the starter and golf course staff. However, once we were inside, the attitude changed. I can't say if this is uniform of what their experience is like, or of this is just a small blip because of COVID, but the service at the restaurant and bar attached to the golf course was dismal. When we checked in for the course, we were informed that there is a $39 fee for a rider, in addition to the golf fee of $130 per person. While I was informed ahead of time that the $39 fee existed, I will say that of all of the high end courses I've ever played, this is the first course that ever actually enforced it. Not the best value, but I was fully aware of their policy, so I cannot say I wasn't informed. After checking in, we ordered food, and was told it would be ready by our tee time. When we arrived to pick up our food, I was told the food was just being boxed up, and charged for food that had not even been started. 10 minutes later I come to find out that the food had not been started, and I'm now 10 mins late for my tee time. After asking for a refund, I rush outside to hit my first tee shot, only to realize 2 mins later that they had shortchanged me by $13 dollars. Overall, the course is nice, and is in good shape. Having driven 3 hours from Philadelphia, I would have expected a better experience. If the golf and atmosphere had been better, I would have definitely been inclined to come back. After this experience, I would not spend the time, or money coming back. While it's hard to put into words how truly bad the experience was, the overall lack of professionalism and indifference to our concerns is among the worst I've seen at a high end course.

All in all, BJ enjoyed this course.
