I made an appt to see her at her office in Solvang. (Pretty drive and worth it.) We talked at length about several physical issues that I hadn't been dealing with. It wasn't rushed. She was very knowledgable about my issues and how to treat them. She also referred me to a few specialists, (podiatrist, physical therapist), which was exactly what I wanted. I felt very listened to, very heard, very cared for. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic primary care provider.

I'm writing this review because I can see someone else had issues that appear to be valid. I had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted last fall. I met with Dr. Gidney who answered some questions and seemed personable to me. I also have hiked with a retired cardiologist who spoke positively of him, but wasn't aware that he was doing pacemakers. Dr. Gidney did tell me that the implant would be hardly noticeable which has definitely not been the case for me because I am not overweight and in good shape. In fact, and this is going to sound crazy, but I was awake when he did the procedure, being fed sedatives intravenously, no gas, and listening to the talk from the technicians who all really seemed competent to me and knew what they were doing. I believe they were Cottage hospital employees. At one point during the procedure I heard Dr. Gidney say somethig, not the exact words perhaps, like "This isn't going well" and getting really frustrated. I am guessing it had to do with getting the pacemaker implanted and getting the skin surrounding it to stitch up properly. And this is really the main issue, the skin hasn't healed properly and when I went into their office and told the NP she said it was all fine. Another review mentioned how cold these people are, this NP was no exception. She struck me as really inexperienced as well. I showed her stitches that weren't dissolving and she said they were a scab. At 71, I have had a few stitiches and my life and can certainly tell the difference. This woman in my opinion was imcompetent. There are 3 doctors in my family so I don't say this without that support. Recently the PA at the dermatologist office also noted the spot where the skin wasn't healing and still scabbed during a skin check and thought there wa something going on underneath and susggested I contact them, I would have but they fired me for calling out the NP inability to assist me and suggesting that she wasn't competent. I can't speak to the other procedures this Dr. performs, but I would definitely not get a pacemaker implanted by him or deal with anyone in his office. They truly are coldhearted and not competent at what they do.

I wanted him to do my ablasion because he has done a lot of them but both him and his staff are just the coldest people I have ever met. I would instead find a cardiologist who treats you like a human being and not a number. Avoid Dr. Gidney. I think doctors from my generation had a lot more life experience and empathy for patients. No empathy in this office.

I searched many doctors in my area, unfortunately most don't have a picture of the doctors and there aren't many reviews to make good decisions on selecting a primary care physician. I was fortunate to have selected Dr. Hatfield as my first choice. I will admit that he is in his older years but with age comes wisdom. Dr. Hatfield is a very knowledgeable Doctor. I appreciate the fact that as he's evaluating your health/symptoms he's also talking to you about them. Pretty much everything he sees, he's explaining along the way. You ask him a question and he knows the answer, not just a yes or no but an explanation along with it. He and his wife do an awesome job, they compliment each other. They're always carrying a smile. I always leave their office with a smile on my face, not just because of the excellent service but also from the good vibe that rubs off. Dr. Hatfield is there to help!

If someone calls in to request an appointment normally at a doctors office they get your name and birthdate so they can look through your chart as you go on about what is ailing you. She does not do this. She waits for you to tell her your name and birthdate And give her the long dialogue of your ailments then decides "oh maybe I'll should look you up in the system". Then she get your info looks at your chart and reads the notes you just told her about. Normally this would be no big deal but she is not friendly she's not patient. Shows no bedside manner not the kind you need in a doctors office especially a surgeon when you are dealing with people that are in pain or scared of the issues they are facing. Dr maybe some personnel training is in order. Note I am posting this for a patient of yours so that no retaliation from the receptionist will take place to them.

In their haste to get me off the phone, I think they might have forgotten to even get my phone number....so I try again. Again rude, tells me my phone is cutting out and can't understand me. Also kept interrupting me to ask what I was calling for...as I was trying to explain exactly that. (Sorry, not a doctor, don't know the technical terms to explain easily...) Put me on hold, a new voice finally answers, says "hello?" repeatedly, and rudely. I finally hang up in frustration. Again they didn't bother getting my number..... If this is the way the office staff treats potential patients, then I have no desire to try to see this doctor.

I have worked with some rude uncaring doctors in my ER in the past but he has been the worst. He may come highly recommended but I don't do pompous doctors who treat patients like dogs. At the time I was active duty in the military, and the last thing I needed was a chronic injury. weighing my options I chose to have it fixed surgically, after initially being referred to a different off base ortho surgeon, said surgeon referred me to Dr. Ryu. I had an arthroscopic repair done, and I will say I knew the recovery time beforehand and I was well informed as a patient. The surgery was well worth it in my opinion. At the time of writing this it is roughly a month and a half since I was discharged as his patient. I have full mobility, and with a semi intensive training regime my strength is about where it was before the surgery and post op atrophy. Well before I recovered, I was also unfortunately tasked with a physically intensive TDA well outside what I could physically do at the time. I worked within my limits, and was religious with my physical therapy exercises. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place when it came to my new job duties and my recovery. Looking back on it, I did risk further injury by pushing myself before I was physically recovered. When it comes down to it I attribute my outcomes post op to dr. ryus proficiency, and not luck. In all honesty I am many things, but lucky is not one of them. I genuinely do attribute my overall outcome from the surgery to Dr. Ryu's advice post op, and his proficiency as an orthopedic surgeon. I can only speak to my experience as a patient of his, and I am beyond satisfied with the outcome of my surgery. I will also say that as a service yelp caters to people that seek dissatisfaction, or a vector to complain. If I ever had a injury in my other shoulder, I would seek to be his patient again. my outcome speaks for itself.
