Not bad! My grandmother actually recommended this place to me and we went for dinner on a Wednesday…read morenight. The menu is kinda small. No desserts or alcoholic drinks. It's really just the main meal and a side dish. Everything is cheap, nothing is more than 25$ a plate. I decided to get the 1/4 chicken with fries and my grandmother got the chicken skewer with fries. We also added a side order of banana plantain for 5$. My chicken was seasoned in a way that I didn't feel the burn coming until after I was done eating. It snuck up on me and my eyes wouldn't stop watering even after I had finished eating. It was still very good. I was really impressed with their fries surprisingly! They were really crisp and fresh. The banana plantain was also delicious. I wish I had had more room to eat them. Portions are a bit big so if you're a light eater get a plate to share. The food took a long time to arrive so make sure to plan accordingly. Don't show up ravenous expecting your meal to get there in 10 minutes. It took about 35-40 minutes to arrive. At the end of the meal the waitress told us that next time we should order in advance and they will call us when it's ready and we can show up. Not a horrible solution. Service is nonexistent though. The waitress only came by twice. To take our order and then to serve us our order. When you're done you ring the bell at the cash register and they make you pay. At least she was nice. The restaurant itself is small but not crowded. They are all medium high chairs which isn't the most comfortable but manageable. Next time we plan on picking a table with chairs that aren't high (there's only one). They don't play any music so it can get quite quiet. We were there with 3 other parties but halfway through the meal we were done to one party and us. You could really feel the emptiness. No one else came to eat so it was just us till the end. It's worth a try if you're in the neighbourhood and feel like a little something different.

The spot to go when I'm craving some West African takeout. Can't go wrong with that "poulet braisé…read more+ attiéké + alloco" combo. Chicken is savoury and never dry, plantain soft and sweet, hot pepper on the side. Everything tastes fresh and the portions are generous. They also have bissap and ginger juice which is great to sip on while you wait for your order. Definitely call in advance to shorten your wait time. On the flip side, the service here is terrible. Waitress barely speaks, looks annoyed to be taking your order, owner comes out of the kitchen to side-eye you and tell you that you're not allowed to dine in, etc. Sadly, this is what I've grown used to when it comes to African-run businesses. Let's just say "the customer is #1" doesn't exactly apply back home. I think business owners should adapt to the culture and standards of the country in which they've settled. However this is a conversation beyond the scope of this yelp review. At the end of the day, that chicken is good enough for me to keep coming back despite the neglect!

They take credit/debit card (most west african spots don't and you know why, if you're west african). Food looks good at first glance. Negatives: Food was bland (it needed salt to wake it up). The portions are horrendous. Not sure if this is a Montreal thing because all of the food in this city seems to be child size, just like Paris. I ordered jollof with chicken for $15 cad. I got a massive amount of rice and two tiny pieces of chicken. Shouldn't it be the other way around? The chicken was mostly fat/skin and bones. I had to use a knife at my hotel to dissect the actual meat of the chicken. If i wanted more chicken, it was $2 per piece...that is ridiculous. I originate from New York City, which has many west african spots and much better value (which is sad because nyc is known for being expensive). Even in Toronto, I can get a plate of jollof rice/huge pieces of chicken with salad and plantain for $10 cad. Summary: When I come to a nigerian or ghanian or any west african spot...I come to EAT. That is the only reason why I'm here. If you've ever been to any west african country...you know that the portions are ON POINT. As someone who can actually make this food, i felt cheated. Overall, its not worth it.

We are Nigerian, so hors d'oeuvres and other finger food would not do! We had a week's notice so we were really scrambling when we came across Ayo's (they a have a FB page). We spoke to Ayo, who told us what she would be able to do in such limited time. So appreciate her HONESTY in giving feedback on our best options for the event we were trying to hold and not selling us on what could not be delivered for the sake of upselling. I was a little nervous because, she was out of town and her husband, Sunday would be catering the entire thing. I shouldn't have been worried because he was the consummate professional, very helpful (even let me use his GPS for the weekend because I kept getting lost coming from Montreal) and went above and beyond to help us host our family and new in-laws in style! The restaurant remained open upstairs, and there were a steady stream of people coming in to dine-in or take out, and after tasting the food (including the legendary Suya) I understood why. They have multiple spots for dine in upstairs, along with 2 tvs and a full bar. Downstairs is their event space and we comfortably accommodated around sixty people there with no issues. The menu included egusi soup and pounded yam, coolers of jollof rice, EXCELLENT meat pies, EXCELLENT suya, chin chin, amazing dried fish, and mixed meat in stew that disappeared before I even got a chance to see it! If you are in Montreal or Lasalle and looking for authentic Nigerian food and/or are looking to host an event, RUN to Ayo's, they are the real deal.

The month i went, December, gave me a choice of a soup, an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The soup was delicious: Lightly spiced and warming for the weather outside. Same with the fish. I wish I got more of these. For my meat entree, I chose the guinea fowl as my entree. I was disappointed in this one because it was dry. Sorta like chicken, but all the way from New Zealand. Service was exceptional. The restaurant was dark, and the couches looked comfortable. I just wish I got a seat on one of the couches.

The interior is covered with African art and colorful decor. The tables are nicely situated and the bench and chairs are comfortable. The service was very good. Very professional and education presentation of the drinks and food. Truly a gastronomical dream. We ordered 2 appetizers one was cod fish and the other was a beef layered "napoleon like" delight. Both layered with much flavor and delicious to look at and to eat. Our entrees were fresh fish in a broth with cassava gnocchi and goat covered with the best pastry I have ever eaten. The server explained every dish and poured a delectable light sauce over the pastry. A truly amazing experience

We had the full chicken braise with the couscous and the alloko (fried plantain) as a starter. The plantain was a bit oily but the tomato or pumpkin sauce that accompanied it was delicious. The chicken was a bit dry and the couscous was cold and sticky. It tasted pretty good tho. Beware of the hot sauce! We were here on a Friday night and the service was very very slow. There was a big group at the restaurant so the two person serving staff were completely overwhelmed. Took us two and half hours to get out of there!
