This is one of the nicest apartment complexes in the greater Savannah area. There's not a lot in…read morethe surrounding area in terms of things to do. This is for the person who doesn't mind a commute into either Savannah proper, or down to Ft. Stewart.
There is shopping nearby, as well as a gas station. The Kroger can be walked to, which makes it convenient. There's also a nice little Japanese restaurant, a MacDonald's, a Wachovia Bank, and gas station in the same shopping center. The residents are pretty nice. A lot of people have dogs and cats. There are lots of kids, which is great because they all play with one another.
They have an excellent maintenance crew, who comes out usually on the same day to fix everything from broken dishwashers to burnt out lights. However, I might as well list a few things for potential tenants to know about, so they don't sign a lease right away.
Beware the carpets. The management doesn't clean carpets. They rely on the word of the outgoing tenant to do it for them. However, when we moved it it was obvious that it had not been cleaned. Furthermore, after the departure of a tenant next door who did not clear their carpets, the management failed to really see this and let the other family move in. So, before signing a lease, negotiate to have the carpets cleaned. If they're unwilling to do this, ask to see the receipt from the prior tenant.
The upkeep on this place has gone down considerably since it opened. The laundry room is an utter mess --rusted equipment, dirty floors, and a trash can that doesn't get emptied enough. The "business center" in the main community center is a mess of broken furnishings, grime, and wall paper that has seen better days. The kitchen in the community center, which people use for parties, has a thin layer of grime and grease. The problem with all of this is that there seems to be no one from the management staff who runs through 2x a day to really check on the condition of things. If they do, it's inconsistent.
The pool area in the main community center is fairly clean, though they keep the radio blaring 24/7. If you happen to have an apartment near the pool, you'd better not object to the music being piped in at all hours. It's like they haven't discovered timers.
Parking is good, the apartments are fairly nice. Insist on a walk-through and open up every single cupboard, run the dishwasher, open up the oven and fridge --while the manager is standing there. If you see anything wrong, make them note it.
