I called the night we arrived in Tiburon, expecting an answering machine, but instead got Dave (the owner) while he was on a bike ride. He offered to bring me a pair of bikes that night! Suffering from some unexpected vertigo, I decided to postpone, and possibly nix my bike riding plans altogether. Dave #2 met us at the shop in Sausalito (an interesting old warehouse, former window hardware manufacturing facility) and he proceeded to set us up with maps, guidance on conditions, and fitting my wife with her helmet and bike fully so that there was no doubt that everything would fit perfectly. Dave#2 was so zen about everything and it was obvious that he takes the care and maintenance of the bikes to heart. Their bikes are in immaculate shape, not a spot of rust, no scratches, no dirt. While getting ready, he was so caring and considerate, asking multiple times if we wanted some water or to use the bathroom before we went, even offering gloves in case it was too cold. This is not what I expect from the type of business that takes care of visitors whom they may never see again. We took a ride out to the Golden Gate, and Dave kept in contact through the trip, even taking pix of us when we got back. Dave and Dave run a very special business and I would rate them 20 stars if I could.

I called in to book a test ride with them for some Priority Bicycles as they are the defacto Bay Area Adventure Center for Priority. Joe was who answered and he is literally the best. He got me all set up with my appointment and gave such an informative and transparent explanation to all my questions on the bikes. Nick set us up with the test ride bikes and was so friendly and helpful. He was willing to pull some bikes back down for us to retest sizing, etc. My dad and I ordered bikes that day and we set up our pick up and installation there in Mill Valley. Granted, we traveled 2 hours to go to this store. So that should be a testament to how awesome this staff is! Picking up the bikes was a breeze and they even accommodated me and added my ask for a tubeless conversion. They even installed the rear bike rack I ordered free of charge. Overall, we had an amazing time working with the team at Xtracycle. Thank you so much to Joe especially for answering all our calls, questions, and concerns. If you ever want to test out a Priority Bicycle or one of Xtracycle's awesome cargo bikes, this is definitely the best place to go in the bay!

Recently, I've had 2 separate experiences within a week a week of each other. The first one, I was selling a bike on CL. A buyer living in Colorado asked if I could ship the bike and I was reluctant to do it. I suggested he call Specialized Bay Area to see if they can handle the packing and shipping of the bike, basically taking liability to get it shipped there. The transaction worked out perfectly where the buyer dealt directly with SBA on the shipping. Buyer Venmo'd me payment and received his bike in 3 days! Kudos to SBA for offering this service! The second experience. I was gonna go for a ride on the Levo this morning. Found a broken spoke. I texted the SBA and explained my problem, gave them a copy of my registration of the Roval wheels, and they said to drop it off any time. I stopped in @ 4pm on a Friday thinking to pick it up next week. One of the managers, Yoav replaced it on the spot, trued the wheel, lubed all the nipples, installed factory tubeless tape, all within 10 minutes! Best of all, the spoke repair was covered under warranty! Actually, the best of all was the staff were friendly and personable. :-) My bike was down for only a few hours! By far, the best experience I have had with a bike shop. I hope they stick around because I want I work here when I retire. Specialized for life!

They didn't mention the discount at all -- they only adjusted it after my friend noticed and asked about it. That's not the kind of thing you should have to catch yourself. For the prices they're charging, I expected better service, better energy, and an overall experience that felt worth it. Unfortunately, it just felt overpriced, underwhelming, and not very welcoming. Definitely left feeling like we could've spent our time and money somewhere else.

This time I decided to try an E Bike and had another pleasurable bike rental. I was staying fairly close to their Hyde Street location so that is where I went on a Sunday morning to get a bike for a tour of The Bay, GG Bridge, Marin Highlands and Sausalito. I kept it for as almost 10 hours and it worked perfectly. It had plenty of range to ride along the Bay to the Presidio and then to the fort under the bridge and then up to and across the GG Bridge. After stopping at Point Vista, I decided to go into new territory and go up in the Marin Highlands on what was a foggy day. Big hills for sure but the bike handled it well. Then down to Sausalito for touring and lunch. From there I took the regular ferry back to the SF Ferry Building, rode around the downtown area and eventually returned back to the Fishermans Wharf area. I wanted to do the Bridge one more time that day but stopped by the Hyde Street location for a battery check. They decided to change out my battery (took 2 minutes) and then it was directly back up to the Bridge and across and then an immediate return back to Fisherman Wharf area for dinner and returning the bike a few minutes before closing at 8 pm. Before the rental they gave me a helpful tutorial on the bikes operation and routes for my ride. The folks at Blazing Saddles have always been top notch with excellent customer service and their rates are competitive. Always ask for any available discounts and they will give you one.
