There are others, but here we will focus on the incredible work of Heidi Peterson-Barrett (HPB). After years of making wine for many wineries, HPB came out with her own label "La Sirena." She also has the Barrett & Barrett label that she shares with her husband Bo from Chateau Montelena. Very conveniently located right off of Foothill Road in Calistoga, you come into to a small lot and walk just a few feet to the tasting room. The facility is way more than just a tasting room... it's a beautiful art gallery of Heidi's amazing work. Paintings and sculptures. All of her wines are on display behind the counter, a very impressive display. Without getting too detailed because I can make this review go on for pages, I will say that everything we drank was incredible. But it's HPB wines would you expect anyting different? We were guided throuh our tasting by Katie. She was such an amazing person and really added to this great experience. Here is a sample of the wines we tried. - La Sirena Moscato Azul - La Sirena Santa Ynez Syrah - La Sirena Cabernet Sauvignon - Barrett & Barrett Cabernet Sauvignon EVERYTHING was magnificent. There is a reason why HPB is a legend in Napa. I am looking forward to a return trip which will happen soon. We also joined their wine club to get an annual sampling of this great wine. My friends and I have been loyal customers for years, and through referrals from Ryan Avila, our group collectively accounts for approximately $150,000+ in wine purchases in the industry, today, I brought a friend who purchases 50k a year and his first intro will make the last into. Ryan's exceptional service and passion for the winery have been a key reason for our continued support and the referrals we've made. However, during our most recent visit, we were deeply disappointed by the service we received in Ryan's absence. We understand there may have been some internal challenges, but the experience without him was far below the standard we've come to expect at O'Brien. It's important to us that our loyalty is reciprocated with the quality of service we've grown accustomed to.  Given the pivotal role Ryan has played in our relationship with the winery, we are concerned that without him, we won't be able to continue our patronage in the same way. It leans technical in the best possible way, and I was all in. There is so much to geek out on here, from the engineering to the data-driven winemaking approach. The winery itself is built into Mount George and descends roughly 20 stories into the mountain, which is just wild when you see it firsthand. It feels part Bond villain lair, part innovation lab, and entirely unforgettable. Blake guided the experience flawlessly. Deep knowledge, great energy, and the ability to translate complex concepts into something engaging without ever losing the sophistication. You can tell he knows his craft and genuinely enjoys sharing it. The on-premise chef was exceptional. The bites were not an afterthought. They were thoughtfully executed and elevated the wines even further. This was a true pairing experience, not just a tasting. I also loved the story behind the owners and what they have built here. It adds another layer of appreciation to an already standout visit. On a lighter note, I have it on good authority (not from Blake!) there may be karaoke here from time to time. We tasted their reserve Sauvignon Blanc as a welcome wine, two different Chardonnays from Napa and Sonoma Coast, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, and their "Big Blend" of multiple bold red varietals. We were the only group in this tasting area at this time and were seated at a grand long table, all of the glasses and personalized menus were pre set. It was all visually impressive. The ambiance felt refined and polished in the newly reimagined tasting area, Gabriel glassware (for all you winos who know), comfortable upholstered seats and great views of the valley floor beneath. Our hosts name was Jose (if I recall correctly) he was gracious and informative about the wines. He made the experience extra special by pouring some of their reserve wines for our tasting and went above and beyond by bringing a couple of small canapé bites for our group as a special birthday treat!! Kudos to the culinary team as well the food bites were delicious and paired beautifully with the wines. I would love to come back and experience their full food menu offerings over the weekends. We likely went over our tasting experience time however there was no sense of being rushed out as I have experienced at other vineyards, the entire team was welcoming during our tasting. Today was considered a very busy day as there were 4 parties including us, lol. Gated private estate. 200 acres. Plenty of parking, especially since hosting only 3 guests at a time. After leaving, well really the next day (LOL), I realized that our tasting was supposed to be only 60 minutes. I guess because we got along so well, we stayed until closing! What a deal!!! We ended up buying three bottles. My personal fav was the Petite Verdot. Cherry on top of the whole experience was that they let us go pick some greats off the vine since they have already finished the harvest. Unfortunately, it was one of our last stops, so we couldn't take any bottles home with us. This time, we made sure Orin Swift was our very first stop, and it did not disappoint. The wines are fantastic, but what really makes the experience special is the hospitality. Marcel was an incredible host: knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about the wines. He made the tasting both educational and fun, and he was so easy to talk to that the experience felt more like spending time with a friend than a typical wine tasting.
