Germany isn't known for its vegan cuisine, but Sattgrün is reppin it well in Düsseldorf. Even during off-hours (3:30pm) the place was packed.
The dishes are all self-serve style, so you make your plate & pay at the cashier. The focus is definitely on vegetables and Asian-influenced flavors. Lots of colorful curries, cous cous & lentils, cold bean salads, etc.
I got the normal size plate for 7.90 EUR, but probably should have spent the 90 cents more for the large. There weren't a lot of carbs to choose from, so I was still a bit hungry when I finished. It would've been nice if they offered free vegan bread or sides of rice. The actual food was good though - everything tasted pretty fresh.
Atmosphere is nice & clean, but it can feel pretty cramped when people are waiting in line to pay and all the seats are taken. The location is lovely - a few steps from the Rhine, with the Gehry buildings in the background. read more
