Dr. Rai was very professional and honest about his inability to help me switch from my current pain management provider and have him continue my medication. He did make sure that my co-pay was refunded before I left the office. While, he could not help me, I do have respect for him since he was straightforward and honest. I do wish they would be more upfront about their practice's inability to prescribe controlled pain medication so that others know ahead of time.

I had spinal surgery in April which changed my pain but offered little relief. I had epidurals…read moreprior to surgery that were no help. My surgery involved cleaning up of herniated discs. With little improvement I made an appointment with Advanced Pain and Dr. Broddnax. After discussion he decided to try a Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection. The next day I felt relief, and today which is day 2, I feel even better. It usually takes a few days to a week for the medication to help, if it does at all. Remember I've had other Epidural's that didn't help. So I'm very hopeful right now, and want to thank Dr Broddnax for all his help.

It says 1st thing. May cause heart attack or stroke. Do not take if u have a list of health issues of which I have many. Glaucoma, kidney issues ( I have a syst in right kidney and acute kidney failure in 8/21) and frequent utis high blood pressure since the 80, history of heart failure and stroke in my family and I have an irregular heartbeat. I called in to go back to Tramadol they said they do not prescribe opioids. In 2012 Ultram was not an opioid. I took it with hydrocodone after shattering my arm. It is a baby medicine compared to Hydrocodone or Lortab or others I have taken but they are the only thing to help with the pain effectively and safely along with other things I take which I have had FNP's & Drs prescribe for me without any issues but due to new insurance and unfortunately a new pcp I am having to go to advanced pain institute and 2 different orthopedic drs and a therapist to get .5 mg of clonazapam which is also something prescribed by many pcps and FNPs this is also a baby dose just like the tramadol compared to xanex etc. I am sick of doctors and their staff being so scared to prescribe things if you have obvious proof of the pain u r in. They make u feel like a criminal. This is wrong. My income is below the poverty level and I live alone. I believe it is being used against me in this case bc I have to pay co pays every time I go to these places. The advanced pain institute will be at least 2 times per month and orthopedics a fee for shoulder that needs surgery and a separate fee for back and a fee for a therapist. This is truly a shame how they make u feel like u are a drug addict if u take tramadol. It is so low a dose I have never felt anything but pain relief without the horrible side effects of the NSAID. ALSO THE NSAID SAID IT IS NOT FOR PERMANENT USE ONLY TEMPORARY AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ISSUES WITH STOMACH BLEEDING I HAVE TAKEN 2 many OTC and rx drugs for years to take that risk. I currently have a uti and was told they couldn't give me shots until it was cleared up and a urine test to prove it. So I am not going back. I will find better. They didn't offer a safer alternative to the NSAID THAT WOULD STOP THE PAIN. I REGRET SPENDING ANY TIME AND MONEY HERE

Post-op care is inadequate from this business. My husband had back surgery by Dr. Tolhurst one…read moremonth ago. Met this surgeon on the day of surgery only. Not a talkative person but since I am a nurse with OR experience I was well informed so I just expected his lack of communication and no red flags were raised. When my husband developed a surgical site infection one month after the surgery, I found the whole office had a lack of communication. I had already started treating the superficial infection with sterile betadine and sterile dressings because phone calls were not returned nor text messages answered. When I did get in touch with some one three days after the first phone call, they were uninformed and uncaring. We are in the emergency room now getting blood cultures and another CT of his back. He is sicker after surgical intervention than before...still haven't talked to Dr. Tolhurst since the day of surgery ...I will be investigating his post op infection rate and complications rate. I will also let our primary care physician and other doctors know of our experience and displeasure with Dr. Tolhurst. Very disappointed with Texas Back Institute also.

I left multiple phone messages and emails without any return calls. Went to their office and picked up the order on 9/30/22. Receptionist acknowledged that their system shows I left them messages. No explanation for why no one called me or why they didn't send the orders to my requested imaging location. I hand delivered the orders to Touchstone Imaging only to find out the orders were written incorrectly. Touchstone called TBI to get corrected orders and was told that I must schedule another appointment to get them corrected. I sent multiple messages to them through the portal about this. Again..... no response. Experience here couldn't have been worse.

In December, I was told the price would be a whopping $6256. I could not afford that in my wildest dreams. But- they told me that insurance would cover a large portion, especially after doing a sleep test (which apparently I didn't score high enough for insurance to care), bla bla bla. I spent the next few months trying over and over to figure out the insurance stuff. Phone calls, emails, claims filed and denied, scanning through my Explanation of benefits on both my medical and dental insurance. Mind you- I had been told both by my insurance provider back in December (UHC in case you're curious) and this place a large amount would be covered. Insurance originally said 90% coverage due to the nature of my treatment, but then went down to 70% since it was out of network. "OK, Fine" I thought. It make still take me forever to pay off that additional 70%, but OK. Well surprise, once the claim actually went through, they didn't offer any at all. It is now the end of April. I have had what seems like endless back and forth conversations with the billing department, my insurance, and the medical provider and I feel like I'm walking in circles. I am stressed out. Honestly- as a young adult taking care of such a big medical expense for the first time, I feel taken advantage of and mislead. Have I been swindled? I don't know. All I know is that I am desperately trying to take steps to get my money back and dispute the charge with care credit. If I can't get this solved, this mistake is going to take me years to pay off. As for the treatment- I believe they would have had more success with a different device, which they admitted in their last appointment with me. There's a lot of positive reviews and I don't doubt that the people that can afford a 6K expense are getting their moneys worth. I appreciate the medical staff and office staff trying to be helpful. Maybe it comes down to just being a young adult making a poor-informed decision because I was in pain and looking for relief.
