It was a cold Saturday morning in February and I was cutting it close to get to spin class. I…read moreparked and sprinted the two blocks to the studio and the frigid air hit my exposed calves below my 3/4 length workout pants like a brick. Didn't think anything about it until I felt a tug in my right calf within the first two minutes of spin class. I let it heal for several weeks but it never quite felt right. For months, I had a nagging tightness. Not pain, but lingering soreness. Stay with me here. I re-tore my ACL on my left knee a few years ago and opted not to have surgery again. For the most part, It's fine because I "retired" from the sport that caused the injury, but it's occasionally wobbly and my knee randomly pops out of place. So I decided to do what I should have done years ago and go to physical therapy to work on strengthening the muscles around the knee. Hope you're still with me, just trying to set the stage for why Rose Physical Therapy is amazing. I'd met the husband of the owner at a Yelp event and he mentioned that his wife has a physical therapy business. Looked up the business later and saw that it had solid positive reviews. Also saw their business cards at Pacers Running and the employee also had good feedback. I made an appointment at Rose and was assigned to Laura based on my symptoms and her specialties. The DuPont office is bright, clean and modern. It sounds weird to comment about the aesthetics, but it really contributes to the experience and my comfort level. Laura is amazing--she takes the time to listen to where I'm having issues, especially during our initial session. Highly recommend! While I thought only my knee needed work, I mentioned where I continued to have calf tightness and she took a look. She explained where the muscles around an injury can lock up and if not loosened up, stay tight even when the original strain heals. During sessions, she works on those tightened muscles with some kind of sculpting tool, does dry needling to release some of the knotted, triggered areas, and then we do a series of exercises to build up strength and stability. I need to be better about doing the exercises at home to help speed along my recovery, but from the office visits alone, my problem areas are improving and I'm so glad I finally made that first appointment to get started. If you've got a nagging issue that you've been putting off addressing, go to Rose and get yourself right!

Rose Physical Therapy is fantastic, my pt there was Kat De Lara and she is amazing! I didn't think I'd be walking again and I am now able to do everything I was before. I was amazed; she is a miracle worker! Very attentive, very responsive, patient, kind. I have a terrible memory so Kat would give me detailed emails as to what to do for my weekly and daily exercises and stretches at home. Wonderful PT, wonderful place. Space has a good vibe, clean but not clinical, professional but warm, friendly and responsive staff, easy to get to by bus or metro. Above and beyond the treatment you will find at most physical therapy places (believe me I know from experience). Cannot recommend enough.

He emphasizes that the body is all connected, which I have not found at any other PT office. The therapists are wonderful and look to help you out in the best way possible. I have seen several of the therapists but the course of treatment has not differed, as they really work together to get you back to enjoying your daily activities. I have come in for several issues, and for each injury, the therapists really want to find out your main goal so that they can create a treatment plan that gets you to that goal in the fastest, safest and most efficient way possible. I am now back playing soccer a couple of times a week, pain free!! They recently relocated to a bigger office space, which now has an elevator. They have 2 floors, with one floor dedicated solely to the gym which gives enough space for a lot of activity. There is a lot of sunlight that comes through the windows which makes the place have a great ambiance.

Thanks to her expert care, I have gone from having chronic pain from my left hip all the way to my left foot to having only rare, minimal discomfort--usually from overdoing it. I have gone from being unable to participate in physical activities to doing yoga, hiking, and cycling on a routine basis. The change has been dramatic. I credit her with a significant improvement in my quality of life. I would, without question, return to Mary Jean again for any PT needs. P.S. Do your exercises!!!

She's super attentive and listens to all your concerns, gives really specific feedback and instructions, even updates your exercises continuously to make sure you're getting the best care as your conditions improve, and is an overall joy to be around. Before I saw MJ, I had a really hard time sitting for more than hour due to a previous back injury. I actually saw another physical therapist for 3 months and had no improvement. Within a few weeks of seeing MJ I noticed a dramatic improvement in my back. I was even able to go backpacking/hiking for hours this summer and experienced no back pain. I'm so grateful to MJ for helping me find the right exercises to regain function and enjoy life without chronic back pain. MJ is proof that the right physical therapist makes all the difference. I'd definitely recommenced her!

Before you book a physical therapy practice, ask them 3 questions:…read more 1) How long is a session? 2) How many minutes of your session are spent on the table with a Dr. of physical therapy (as opposed to practicing your exercises or being handed off to somebody else)? 3) If you have a doctor's prescription to treat an acute issue -- such as for your ankle or knee or shoulder -- do they limit their treatment to the prescribed area, or do they treat the whole body as it is affected by the injury? I've had the misfortune of needing PT many times. I have been to a few practices and never disliked a therapist, but when I found Pro Motion in 2008, that's when I realized what I'd been missing. Ask the questions above, compare to Pro Motion, and you'll quickly eliminate 99% of other PT practices. All the therapists here are top notch and share the same philosophy. The only negative about Pro Motion is that it's hard to get an appointment. However, once you're in, as they schedule subsequent months they'll find slots for you.
