Terrible, terrible, terrible. STAY AWAY. I discussed an issue I have with one of my front teeth. Before I know it, he's talking about putting caps on my top four front teeth, three of which are pristine. Did he need new tires for his car or something? My wife, who was pregnant at the time, wanted to get her teeth cleaned without getting an X-ray. They wouldn't do it. Um, really? You really want to risk exposing a fetus to X-radiation? Or you're so incompetent that you can't clean teeth without looking at some film first? Go anywhere else--just avoid this joker. read more

I gotta admit I was resenting my insurance for having assigned me to this Dentist after reading through the reviews. THANKFULLY, my experience was quite the polar opposite of all the negative reviews. I didn't wait longer than 10 minutes, the office was clean, I had both my x-rays and cleaning done in ONE appointment, and I was told that I only needed ONE filling. Maybe I caught them on a good day, but everything was smooth during my visit. No evil money-hungry, inconsiderate dentist. He was the exact opposite, simply great! read more

Thought I would leave an updated review given I been going to Dr. Alexander for almost two years now. As mentioned in my previous review, I was extremely pleased with Dr. Alexander, Becky, Mari, and Betti. I'm one who had extreme FEAR of dentists due to an accident at a younger age. Today, I have zero issues when going to this office. I was in today for a cleaning/check-up and again, as with all of my prior appointments, Dr. Alexander and his Team are professional, caring, and welcoming. It amazes me to continue to see negative comments, especially from so called patients out of the area. That almost makes no sense to me, and it certainly is not my experience with this office. The office is clean, pricing is extremely reasonable, again the Team and Dr. Alexander are professional, caring, and welcoming. They listen! Today prior to cleaning I mentioned a "tender" spot at my last cleaning. Dr. Alexander, first explained why it had perhaps been tender, and then whilst cleaning I noticed he took extra time and precaution in the stated area. I cannot ask for more. I would HIGHLY recommend this office, Dr. Alexander, and his Team of Becky, Mari, and Betti. Another interesting tidbit I learned today is that Mari and Betti have been with Dr. Alexander for over 15 years. Clearly they both have a passion for what they do. But more importantly, it speaks volumes to me in that Dr. Alexander and Becky (his wife) know how to treat team members who work for/with them. I also believe now having been going to this office for almost two years, that they apply the same caring ways they have for each other to all of their patients. Whenever I call to simply make an appointment, stop by with a simple question or two, or have an appointment, they KNOW me and treat me as a good friend or family member. I could not be happier with the changes in our insurance 2 years ago that assigned us to utilize Dr. Alexander's Dental Services. All those years of Dentist FEARS are out the window. Upon leaving today I said to Becky, "I even make my own appointments these days" and Becky chuckled and said, "Better yet, you keep and come in for them on your own"! THANK YOU Dr. Alexander! I visited Dr Alexander's office two times. The first treatment happened in now so distant June of 2008. Dr Alexander put a crown on my tooth (that had a huge old filling and it caused the tooth cracked suddenly.) That was my first experience with a dentist after I moved to the States, and did not know where to go with a dental problem. My landlady suggested Dr Alexander and I am glad she did. The crown has worked well since then! Almost 9 years. It was crafted just right at once (#4 tooth, not an easy one) and the process was smooth and painless. Dr Alexander was attentive, his staff's very professional. Without insurance I paid very moderate price for the crown (about $500, in 2008.) The office probably does not look that slick but it's neat, clean and comfortable. I never waisted time - both my appointments went without any waiting. read more

This guy sucks. In it for the money. First appointment was supposed to be for a cleaning. He does just X-Rays and scheduled an appointment for cleaning. Go to the cleaning he tells me oh we should fill this tooth. The tooth never hurt and never had any issues. Agreed on his advice. Come back a 3rd time to have it filled. Had pain for couple weeks after. Set a 4th appt. he tells me oh just give it some time the pain will go away. Pain was still there so set a 5th appt and he then gives me a referral to have a root canal done. While having the root canal performed that Dr. told me I got an infection in the root from the filling. Do not go to this guy! Hack!!! read more

Session 1: New patient. Walked in, very clean. Staff was very professional and friendly. Explanation of terms and conditions was very clear. Wait time was between 10-15 mins. Got X-rays and cleaning done in one appointment and got referrals to get other services done, one more pressing and the other cosmetic. Dr. Alexander did not try to sell me anything extra and was very pleasant and professional. Session 2: No matter how much local anesthesia he put in my mouth for a minor filling, it still hurt. He was not as friendly as the first time, and a bit rough while injecting a very painful anesthesia. Ended up not getting the filling done and switched from the HMO to a PPO so that I could continue going to the dentist I did before. More expensive, but at least that dentist doesn't make me walk out in tears. I DID get a refund for the filling... read more

Dr. Sasha Alexander has been my family's dentist since 2006. A cultured and witty man, he seasons his expert treatment with humor and a very light touch. Dr. Alexander always explains what he's doing as he proceeds, and he and his staff (which includes a very warm and caring wife at the front desk) are prompt, professional, and super solicitous as to my overall well-being. I've never waited more than five minutes for an appointment to begin, and always manage to dip into the office's supply of magazines. I like Dr. Sasha Alexander! First let me list that my Dental Insurance listed him as a female doctor...he's obviously not a female. He's not warm and inviting, but he gets the job done! His wife is there sometimes working and she is super nice, and so is the rest of the staff. I needed to get some cavities filled ASAP because I was getting braces put on that week, and they made it happen. They scheduled me RIGHT AWAY and I had 2 visits in a week to make it happen. They quoted me before every procedure, which I liked. So I recommend them. read more

I have been a patient since around 2000. I travel from Salinas because I am very happy with all aspects of this practice (wish it were closer, of course) for a number of reasons: Sasha does the cleanings, he is very thorough, experienced and friendly. The cosmetic work he has done for me is also first class. The office staff have always been super friendly but the dental assistants not chatty, just all business. The office is extremely clean and well run and I've always been treated fairly by the office with no pressure to clear bills while the insurance process grinds its way onward. Why the negative reviews? Sasha immigrated from the former Yugoslavia - he's European - so can come off as a little gruff or abrupt at times. Terrible encounter! He refused to treat me because I didn't want to give my SS# even though I have insurance! He actually started an argument in the waiting room over it! Like, what is he going to do, bill my SS#? I explained I've had identity theft before but he didn't budge. That, and the fact he has a full beard (not near my face, thank you very much - I don't care if he wears a mask like the guy behind the pizza counter at Costco) And, his staff (wife & daughter?) are rude. Dr. Sasha Alexander DDS is the "Jiffy-Lube/Drill-Dentist" of Monterey. It was the worst dental experience I've ever had and I've traveled to many countries--Asia, South America. My teeth cleaning was painfull but short ...only 7minutes...sweet! He should have a $9.99 teeth cleaning drive-though with a 50% off clip out coupon in the Sunday Monterey Herald...I am not kidding I've waited longer for my order at Jack-in-the-box on a Friday night than it took for my whole appointment which was under 28min exactly including a fillng which I'll spare you the gory details of. I don't understand how he got to be a dentist in the USA...I really think his doctors credentials were paid for in Kazakhstan perhaps? Only Borat Sagdiyev or Sasha Baron Cohen would know for sure...;) read more

DO NOT GO TO SASHA ALEXANDER DDS. He was running an hour late for appointments for both me and my husband. We went to have our semi-annual cleanings, and after making us wait an hour each he only took x-rays but DID NOT CLEAN OUR TEETH. He still charged us the full co-pay for our dental insurance, which prevented us from getting our cleanings elsewhere with our insurance. We paid for cleanings out of pocket elsewhere, and paid $25 to get our x-rays transferred. Dr. Sasha Alexander DDS is a fraud. read more

Can I give negative stars? The Mickey Mouse clock on the wall suggests that this is the happiest place on Earth...what a joke! Like Thomas N., I made an appointment to have my teeth cleaned, only to have x-rays taken by a technician who literally only said the words "open" and "close" to me during the entire process, then was asked when I'd like to make my appointment for the cleaning. Seriously? I saw Dr. Alexander for exactly 6 minutes, during which time he told me that I had six cavities, but wouldn't show me on the x-rays where they were. I could easily go on about how rude the staff were, but the fact is that other reviewers have said it all about this dentist office: "incompetent", "fraud", "awful", "hack". I'm cancelling my insurance and paying Dr. Bianco on Pacific Street out of pocket. He's been nothing but reasonable and pleasant for my partner and I...the exact opposite of Alexander. P.S. If you're reading this and still decide to go see him, ask to see if he has the legal paperwork to perform dentistry. I'd love to find out. read more

I got my comprehensive exam and full mouth of X Rays done with Dr. Sasha Alexander who told me that I had a few cavities to fill in. I said that I was going to get the Clifford Test done to find out what fillings, glues etc., I am allergic to because I have an auto immune disease. I explained that the full report would be sent to him so that he could order what I am NOT allergic to. His wife who is the admin there said that the doctor would not do this for me and that he was very comfortable with the products he is using already. I explained that what is best for my health isn't necessarily what a doctor chooses to use and that I was willing to pay for the product to be ordered before my visit, and that all Dr. Alexander would have to do is call to place the order for me. They still said no, so I found the BEST dentist in Santa Cruz (Dr. Biles) who is completely holistic and uses Bio Identical testing for all of his patients. So I paid out of pocket to have all of my work done with this new dentist and then came back to Alexander for the cleaning because I am paying for this HMO plan monthly. That was issue #1. Secondly, Alexanders wife took my appointment for a cleaning with the hygienist and then once I was there called me to the desk to tell me that the cleaning couldn't be done until ALL my other work was done! I said, "Oh well, it is all done already." Alexanders wife in front of her hygienist and a patient...said, "Well this isn't a car wash. You cant just come and go as you please between doctors." I said, "I am not seeing the doctor, I am just getting my teeth cleaned with your hygienist and I have already paid for a full mouth of X Rays with you and my exam. You don't want my business? I reminded her that I had no choice but to pay out of pocket with another provider for the fillings because of my auto immune disease and that Alexander was not going to help me with this and that when you have an auto immune situation, your body over reacts with inflammation and fighting the foreign material for the rest of your life. My thoughts are that if you are overdue for a cleaning, after you have your comprehensive exam and X Rays you should be able to have your cleaning as it affects your overall general health and heart health. Alexanders office told me on my first exam that I had to get ALL my work done first before I could get my cleaning. Every dentist I have ever seen up to this point has allowed the patient to choose what work to do when, and cleanings happen right away. We are the paying clients with choice not powerless slaves to not be able to have choices or intelligence, who hand over 100% power our doctors. That was the old way of the past and people are wising up to being true consumers making educated decisions about their health and working WITH their health care providers, not just taking orders. I called the insurance company and told them of what happened and they are not happy about their insured being treated this way and assured me that if they get several complaints about a dentist that they are just taken off the Provider Network List. Alexander is the only HMO dentist in the area and most likely this is his main source of revenue. Perhaps they should come to understand the culture here and step down from the power pot a little and give a little kindness and respect to patients/consumers. If you are in the health care business then you should have the patients health care concerns at the forefront of your priorities. read more

I don't like the dentist. I've been more often than I care to admit throughout my life and have had more than my share of pain from lazy dentists, etc. Dr. Alexander performed a root canal on a canine tooth in about a half an hour. The entirety of the visit was about 45 minutes. He was fast, there was no pain, he was extremely courteous and professional. I could not have asked for a better experience. When going in for a cleaning they don't floss or give you fluoride to rinse with. They simply brush your teeth. They don't do same day fillings which means you have to make another appointment. They always seem depressed and in a rush except for the front receptionist. They don't really talk to you about your procedures they just sit down and start. This dentist seems very outdated to me. I wouldn't recommend going here. read more

I have been reading these reviews and I couldn't disagree more. I started going to Dr. Alexander when they were at the old office which wasn't so pretty but the new office is nice and super clean. As for the staff, his wife I think runs the front and she has always been super sweet. As for Dr. Alexander, he is really nice too and always seems very cheerful and appropriately concerned when I ask about something. I had gone to another dentist prior to him and he had told me I needed all kinds if work done and when I inquired about my wisdom he tried to convince me to let him pull them on the spot!!! I was mortified and left in tears. Dr. Alexander looked at my X-rays and said there was a tooth that I should keep an eye on and referred my to an excellent oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth, not nearly as much as the other guy!! As far as billing issues...haven't had any. My only complaint would be wait time. I waited almost 45 min for my appointment the other day:( If this was such a bad place I doubt they would have such a wait:) read more

Dr gets down to it. No BS. He cleans teeth quick and does not waste time. This helps keep my costs down. No need for a fluff person to do a job he can do himself. I prefer to do my own flossing and the mouthwash is by the sink. Office is 1960's era but who cares. Assistants and Betty are helpful. He's capped half of my teeth over the last few years as im getting older. The company he uses to fabricate the caps are at least 600.00 less than some others and they fit fine. read more

I am just astonished at the negative reviews here! My 3 year old son had a dental emergency and had never been seen by Dr. Alexander as he was just assigned to us via Aetna. His receptionist (also his wife) got us in within a half an hour & was so kind and understanding on the phone. When we arrived Dr came to the waiting room to take a look at my son immediately. He thought we should see a pediatric dentist and explained why & also gave his honest opinion on my sons teeth. The receptionist then spent at least 15 minutes on the phone with Aetna trying to find a pediatric dentist close to us because the only one listed was over an hours drive. She did not succeed, but she tried & was SO sweet and accommodating. I look forward to our family being seen in this office in the future. Dr. Alexander was very kind, gentle & informative. Mrs. Alexander was so helpful & just a JOY to be around, especially considering the trauma my son had experienced! read more

Zero stars!! All the above reviews should be Seriously considered. After his staff moved into a new office, I suddenly had 3 cavities and 2 crowns that needed replacing. When remarking that I just had a cleaning and x-ray six months ago and asking why I suddenly had 3 cavities, I was told "Oh, cavities come up very quickly sometimes." Additionally, after continued queries, the "dentist" told me I had cavities, the receptionist told me I just needed some repair work. I should have listened to my instincts. Giving them the benefit of doubt, I had the work done. Worst decision of the decade! When preparing one of the teeth for new crown, the "dentist" ground the bone down so much that I thought he would cut away all the bone, and cut the tongue ligament with the drill. I knew he at the time I was being butchered. The very next day, I had considerable pain in that tooth. I returned and was told it was probably food stuck in the tooth!! For the next three months I had to bear terrible pain in that tooth related to temperature and pressure. I returned again and this time was told, believe it or not, that "sometimes the operation is a success, but the patient dies"! These are exact words. I am convinced my nerve was permanently damaged. The final visit there was to see if anything could be done about the pain and to have a cleaning. He tapped on my teeth, made the above remark about the operation and patient, did not clean my teeth, and still charged me for it! Now to even further bolster my doubts about his competence, I recently saw a dental receptionist from my former dentist who had retired ( the dentist). I was telling her about my problems and she asked who the dentist was. When I told her, her whole face dropped, and she said that this dentist was the worst on the Monterey peninsula. She said "Do not go back to this man, he will really mess you up." Her actual words were a bit stronger, but I can't use that word here! She has worked in other dental offices in Monterey. I hope this review will save others from the same fate. I wish I could retrieve that $1000 plus that I spent on the irresponsible work. I wish I could live just one day without tooth pain! read more

Dr. Alexander disappoints me. His shot was very painful. My tooth was so sensitive to hot and cold for weeks after I saw him. I actually went TWICE cause I didn't believe it could be bad two times. The second tooth seems like the exterior was scraped of enamel with the metal sleeve he put on to fill the tooth. I WON'T BE BACK A THIRD TIME. PRICE IS LOW BUT SO IT THE QUALITY. read more

This doctor does not know about his job. This office is only for the money. My appointment for a cleaning only. He does just X-Rays and did cleaning for about 10 minutes. My tooth is still dirty. He tells me that one of my tooth need to fill and another one need to put a crown over it. My tooth never hurt and never had any issues. Come back a 3rd time to have it filled. Had pain for couple weeks after. Come back a 4th to put pain medicine. He tells me that "the pain will go away." He also tells me that "if the pain will not go away I will give you a referral to have a root canal." While doing his job to file my tooth. His assistant asked him that "do this file well?" He said to his assistant that "you knew, it will come back a couple weeks." Until now, the pain was still there. What will be a next story about my tooth? I have been going to Dr. Alexander for several years now. The office location has moved and the atmosphere has really changed with a new employee at the front desk (Rebecca) who is extremely personable, knowledgeable and explains insurance coverage. When I had a problem and needed immediate assistance, Rebecca got me in the same day to see Dr. Alexander. The assistants are professional and personable. Because I drive a distance, I always use the rest room and I must say it is one of the cleanest I've seen. The entire office is clean and cheerful with yellow paint and Dr. Alexander himself is very cheerful. I've found him to be extremely patient with the elderly, explaining things several times if need be and always asks if I have any questions. He is efficient and knowledgeable. I don't believe I would have been this pleased several years ago; however, I can't say enough about the positive change for the better this office has made. read more
