Chicken Teriyaki with extra meat
Andrew O.

I ordered the chicken teriyaki with extra meat, veggies, and fried rice for about $10, it turned out pretty good. They didn't charge me for any extra sauce. Not bad for mall food. The line was pretty busy more than other stores but they moved thru all the customers pretty fast.

Burnt Chicken! Bitter as hell.

Typical Mall food, Teriyaki Chicken double meat with noodles for $7. What do you expect. Yes it's good, but is it good for you?

It was a bit above average for the area and prices were better than I've seen elsewhere. My husband and I dined in on a Saturday around 6 pm. The place was already slammed with online orders and it did not stop the entire hour or so we spent in the building. Everything is disposable even when dining in and eating out of styrofoam isn't my preference but ok. It's a small establishment and I would guess the overwhelming majority of their business comes through online ordering. So, order online rather than go in as there is no real ambiance. I tend to order pretty basic rolls and sashimi which I think really levels the playing field when it comes to sushi. So, my commentary on the sushi is just based on the quality of the fish. It was alright not particularly vibrant or fresh. But not bad either. The pieces of sashimi were literally the biggest I've ever seen. They were too big to comfortably one-bite. The spicy tuna roll was pretty good and didn't require soy sauce to make it palatable. The miso soup was also good. My husband loved their salad dressing. If we decide to order again I would skip the sashimi and probably order some à la cart nigiri to form my final opinion. The search for a truly killer sushi place around here continues.

This time we decided to get take out and eat at the house. We ordered online which was easy to navigate. We got pad Thai, Hong Kong noodles, two rolls and potstickers. They had a discount if you spent $60 you'll get 10% off. I went to pick up the food and it was ready when it say it would be. Inside was nicely decorated like the last time I been here. There was also plenty of seating. The host handed me the food and I was glad they separated the sushi from the hot food. We got home to eat dinner and I tried the pad Thai. I got level three and it was not spicy enough for me. Maybe next time I will get a 5. As far as the taste... there was no flavor and the noodles seem to a bit under cooked. I was expected that spicy, tamarin sour and sweet flavor that is normally in a Pad Thai but didn't get that. The potstickers and sushi were pretty good. Overall it was decent but could be better. Maybe it was an off day.

Let me start out with saying I can't speak about the ambiance because we didn't eat there in…read moreperson. We got take out. My boyfriend picked up the food but he said the person giving him it was really nice so that's a plus! The good part - the food! This sushi was super yummy. We got 2 orders of the smoked salmon roll and added avocado to them (really recommend). Just so you know - it's because we usually get the "Alaskan roll" but around us (Norwich, CT) the Alaska roll has smoked salmon and avocado and more. Not sure why. But it's super different here. The fish tasted fresh and smoky but not so smoky you couldn't taste anything else. The veggies were fresh too. I will say that the rice was much softer than we're used to having? I'm not sure if it's always like that since this was our first time ordering here but it was definitely noticeably soft. So just be aware of that since I've never had my rice that mushy? It was still yummy - just threw us off. I do really really recommend the specialty Colorado Roll (chicken tempura, spicy tuna, spicy crab, eel sauce, sweet chili sauce, spicy Mayo, and "crunch"). It sounds like a lot and is a lot but it's so good! It was the star of the show even though we were just being experimental in ordering it. It had all the right things. Chicken and raw fish might seem weird but actually go for it if you have the money! (This one is pricy at around $18+tax). My boyfriend did enjoy his California roll but it was a normal one of course. And I really liked my sweet potato roll cause I love the crispy sweet salty flavors. If you haven't tried a sweet potato roll yet - you really gotta! Even if you're usually all in it for the fish! As an appetizer we got two orders of gyoza - one pork and one kung pao chicken. They were both really good. The kung Pao chicken was surprisingly delicious. I don't recommend the sauce they give you as it just tasted like soy sauce with garlic but honestly both gyozas stood out by themselves. Juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside. The kung Pao chicken one was the best and most fun gyoza I've had. It is savory and has a bit of a kick so there's a heads up if you're sensitive to spice. Altogether I'd give the place a 4.5. Minus .5 for the kinda mushy rice but good once you get past the texture differences! Sorry my photos are mostly in their takeout containers! We dug in super quickly haha.

Even though the name (Kawa) and menu have changed a bit over time, the heart of this place has never changed--and that's what keeps us coming back. One thing that truly stands out is that this is a family‑owned restaurant, and you can feel the care, pride, and love they put into their food and service. It adds a level of warmth and authenticity that you just don't get everywhere. Our group ordered a wide range of dishes, and not a single plate was left with food on it. Several guests tried the special fried rice, while one had the chicken fried rice. Everyone loved their meals so much that I even ordered an extra fried rice to take home. We also enjoyed a great selection of sushi, including a few rolls we had never tried before. Their sushi roll prices are the best in the area, yet the quality remains consistently excellent. The sashimi we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and did not disappoint. One guest ordered the noodles with shrimp and said it was the best they'd ever had. To top it off, the restaurant has a surprisingly wide variety of Asian beers at very reasonable prices. The beers we tried were a big hit with the group and paired perfectly with the food. The service was another highlight of the night. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, patient, and on top of everything our large party needed. Managing a group of 14 isn't easy, but he handled it flawlessly and made us feel well cared for. My fiancé asked him a lot of questions on some of dishes and he was very knowledgeable. After more than a decade of visiting, this birthday dinner reminded me exactly why this place has remained one of our family favorites. Delicious food, great prices, warm service, and the heart of a family‑owned business that truly values what they do. Highly recommend for both special occasions and everyday meals. There is plenty of parking for a big party and lots of space inside. They were packed and it was 5 days before Christmas.

No. Being located in Connecticut versus New Orleans, Georgia, Florida or Maryland does not give you a hall pass to sell over-priced seafood that is not up to edible standards/fresh. No crab seasoning dusting AT ALL. Crab was freezer burned with grit on the shell. I got the special sauce + the hottest level. Red water. So diluted and devoid of flavor. The "boil" was literally the consistency of water. That's not a boil. They likely have pots of unseasoned water that they ladle in the bag post steaming. So bland, zero love and not at all authentic. Also-- small russet potatoes were not cleaned prior to being cooked whole and are rigid/raw in the center. Over-cooked shrimp. Boil base has ZERO flavor and likely just MSG + coloring. Disrespectful. Wrong potatoes, wrong process, wrong chef, wrong seasonings, aged crab, wrong everything. My meal was 'to go'. If dined in?! Absolutely not. Nope. I would have left it on the table! Trust me-- I'm calling my bank and if they want to FaceTime the food in the trash... fine by me. I can't eat this. There is dirt in the sauce and all of the elements because they did not clean the crab, shrimp + potatoes. There were two rotten potatoes in my bag and freezer burned snow crab clusters... disgusting. Hit "The Boil" in NYC, "Juicy Crab" in MD-- even "Hook & Reel" in Orange, CT. That's where you get real Cajun flavor profiles and actual spice! This restaurant has zero business serving seafood boils. Really, really subpar.
