An area nearby is set up as a wedding ceremony site with the pond as a back drop. The owners, Amanda and Ellen Cantrel, are nothing if not inviting and accomodating. Mama Ellen is the matriarch of this household with her daughter Amanda handling the catering and event planning of the business. This location gives tours through this historic house, rents rooms out for the bed and breakfast, caters, does wedding cakes (gorgeous ones too), and host weddings that include everything from the location to the food to the decor. Stepping up to the counter I was greeted with a friendly smile from the young lady behind the register. I asked her a few questions about sides and food which she was able to inform about. I decided to go with the "Daily Special", as stated by the sign next to me, and go with the jalapeno and cheddar cheese burger with sweet potato fries. I sat myself at a high-top against the wall so that I could observer the restaurant. The young lady brought out my beverage and told me she will be bringing me my food as soon as it's ready. As I sat there waiting I noticed that one of the A/C vents had a heavy build up of condensation which dripped down to the floor creating a small pool of water. I noticed another lady that worked there, maybe the chef or manager, had a smile on her face and stopped by all of the tables to speak with the customers. All of the tables except mine were greeted. In the beginning there were 8 people including myself and more slowly came in which kept the young lady busy at the register. The more senior employee brought some drinks to the larger table, these looked like refills, but did not notice me with my empty glass. Finally after 21 minutes my medium well burger came out. The flavor was not bad and it filled me up. The flavor however did not taste like a juicy burger you would get a five guys or off the grill. I was not very impressed impressed by the quality of burger I received for the amount of time it took. I may give this place another try but will not be getting the burger. They seem more like a salad or maybe a sandwich place. Who know's they may even drop by my table next time to see how my visit is going. I cannot give a thumbs up or down on this visit. If you decide to eat here go in with an open mind.

The 50s-style diner opens early for breakfast and switches to the lunch menu at 11am. Justus Pharmacy occupied the building from 1890 to 1993. Then the building was renovated to Mike's on Main. I loved that it still has the pharmacy feel, and that they kept the Apothecary neon sign out front, the 1890's ceiling, the 1920s mosaic floor tile, the 1930's fountain bar with bar stools, a juke box, old cash registers, a vintage "Drugs & Lunch" sign in the back, and apothecary bottles. Outside the building is a Coca-Cola mural painted in 1905. It's amazing to think that author Thomas Wolfe used to hang out at this very soda fountain back in the day! I arrived right around 11:00 AM while the breakfast menus were still out. Although the Eggs Benedict looked highly tempting, I ultimately went with the egg salad on toasted sourdough. It was a generous portion, topped with fresh lettuce and tomato, served with a bag of chips and a pickle. You could immediately tell the egg salad was completely homemade and fresh. I also treated myself to an old-fashioned ice cream soda with chocolate ice cream, which was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed my lunch immensely, and the lively, retro atmosphere made it even more fun. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, even taking extra care to make sure I noticed all the historical decor spread throughout the space. I already look forward to my next visit!
