They were very up-front about everything, and they made sure all my questions were answered every step of the way. Lisa helped answer all my questions whenever I called and kept me informed of my schedule, and she was so nice the whole time. Dr. Sweeney, the optometrist who conducts the pre-op consultation and post-op visits, was very thorough and professional at every visit. Dr. Holzman, the surgeon, was great on the day of surgery and even texted the next day and emailed a week later to check in on how my vision was and whether I was happy with the results of the procedure. He walked me through everything and let me know what I would experience as it was happening during the procedure, and he kept me super relaxed through the whole thing. It took maybe 5 minutes total for both eyes! I walked out of the office seeing things hazily, but after my 3-hour nap (which they suggest you take as soon as you get home), I pretty much woke up with 20/15 vision! If you are considering getting Lasik to avoid having to deal with glasses and contacts, TLC is a great place to do it. They also offer PRK, and depending on your eyes that may be the surgery for you, but they'll guide you through those decisions. They make it so easy, and I really appreciated their transparency through the whole thing. And I couldn't be happier with my vision! A lot of people go to Charlottesville Eye Associates for their eyecare, which is an endorsement in itself. My experience so far has been great. After twice getting new glasses that weren't working for me after a few weeks (at another practice), then having trouble driving on a dark highway at night, I had cataract removal and lens implants at age 50. (My brother had the procedure done at 45, so genetics were likely the reason for my early issues.) Dr. Grover was recommended as "the" person to go to, and I was not disappointed with his service. He is friendly, efficient and highly competent. With my second eye now done, I can see 20-20 at distance, with clarity to the horizon, and I am now good to drive without glasses. My overall vision has never been this good, and so I wanted to express my gratitude to Dr. Grover and the rest of the staff. His recommendation for a standard lens in one eye and a Toric lens in the other worked out with miraculous results. The only drawbacks I can identify are the tradeoffs that they warn you about, but I'm not sure I was fully prepared for. I do get floaters and light sensitivity, including morning strobing, which I hope will either go away in time or I'll at least adapt to and notice less. Also, I now need reading glasses, since I went from nearsighted to farsighted with the surgeries. I did not go with the most expensive lenses that address both near and far vision, because there was a warning that some people experience glare. Given the state of my eyes, that was a good call, I think. I'm still in the period of finishing up eye drops and final healing, so the ultimate state of my eyes is subject to revision over time. But knowing that the removal had to be done (it only gets worse over time until addressed), I feel like I made the right choice going to Charlottesville Eye to have the work done.

I had already visited other MyEyeDr offices to shop and compare, as I was looking to get a backup pair of prescription sunglasses. I found most of the other offices far more customer-friendly than this one. With the exception of Avory, who was most impressive in her courtesy, professionalism and superb customer service skills, I found the front staff lacking in their approach to customer service. Unfortunately, I did not have an opportunity to work with Avory. However, I continually observed her performance with other customers while I was working with Rashonda. Avory genuinely seemed happy to be working there and always verbally welcomed guests as they entered the office. Other staff appeared to have a perfunctory "just going through the motions" attitude about their work. I am rating this office three stars, rather than only two stars, because everyone seemed to be technically competent in their trade. Thus, if you care only about technical proficiency, then this office is fine. But if you're like me and you want not only technical competence from your eye doctor experience, but a friendly, engaging interaction where you feel welcomed and glad you came, then I don't think the Pantops (Jefferson Parkwy) office is your best option.
