What better way to see the natural splendor of Highlands than by an aerial park? That was our…read morethought when we booked a reservation for our group that had two small kiddos. We went with Zippy's Tree Top Adventure Course given the age of the kids and we all had a great time. Even though Zippy's is tailored for families, it can be challenging and fun for adults as well, especially if you are like us where you can't remember the last time you were on a zip line or a ropes course. The course is essentially a circuit of several stations and you can keep doing them to your heart's desire until your time runs out. There are guides to help walk you through the area who are also outfitted with go pros to capture your experience. After about 30 minutes, we were all pretty gassed, and we had a great time examining the go pro film and pictures. If you are new to the area like us, stopping in at the aerial park is a must given that it's not every day that you are surrounded by such natural beauty. We plan to be back on hopefully our next trip to highlands so we can try out some of the more difficult courses, or we may just do Zippy's again.

There are varying levels of obstacles and zip lines on every course. Our favorite course was the zip line course, as it goes the highest into the trees and has the most speed for the thrill seekers :) The workers were helpful when needed, but mostly hands off otherwise. Because of the cool lock and safety system, it's really impossible to mess it up (unless you just totally don't clip in at all) and so easy to use and slide along from obstacle to obstacle. (see pics) We stayed for about 3 hours and enjoyed every bit of it! Highly recommended :) *Note - during the holidays, they have specials at a pretty big discount to buy tickets for the spring when they open.

There are also zip lines for young children plus a lot of fun for teens. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Update: I went to the yoga & climb class and it was a very nice experience! It was an outdoor yoga class on the deck. The class was a well worth-it, pleasant and relaxing outdoor experience led by Sharie.

Today we visited the Nantahala Outdoor Center for whitewater rafting and zip lining, and it was one…read moreof the highlights of our trip! Our rafting guide, Carter, was phenomenal. His customer service was amazing. He made the entire experience fun from start to finish. We laughed the whole way down the river, learned so many interesting facts about the area, and always felt safe. If you're visiting with young kids, this is an amazing family adventure, and Carter made it even more memorable. After rafting, we went zip-lining, and the experience was just as enjoyable. Cole and his crew were fantastic--patient, professional, encouraging, and accommodating. They made everyone feel comfortable, whether it was their first time or not. We 100% recommend Nantahala Outdoor Center for families, couples, or anyone looking for a fun day outdoors. The staff truly made the experience exceptional. Our only suggestion would be to make tipping easier. Currently, guides can only be tipped with cash, and many people don't carry cash anymore. It would be great if the guides had a Cash App, Venmo, or QR code so guests could tip digitally using their phones. They absolutely deserve it! The Blue Ridge Mountains and valleys were breathtaking. Andrew and Samuel were our great guides! Andrew offered lots of extra insights about rocks and Samuel was super clever with his vocabulary to keep everyone entertained. All the staff, from check-in to guides to gift shop staff were super friendly and helpful. Andrew took terrific pictures along the way so we did not have to worry about cameras or phones. Buy the photo package up front - it is worth it! We had folks from teenage years to 50s in our groups and everyone loved it! We will be back!

Knowing we were beginners on the four wheelers, he constantly looked back to make sure we were comfortable & having fun. Stopped off a few times for an earful of knowledge, feeding a few animals & climbing a tower with a beautiful overlook (aside from a cell tower, the mountainous view was great. Felt bad for the horses. Even though they were shaded, wished they had fans running to cool off while in their stalls. That particular day, the air was heavy & hot with no breeze. Any other day I'm guessing there's a cool breeze blowing through. Wouldn't recommend playing corn hole as the floor was heavily littered with goat crap. Handling the corn bags means you're also handling goat shit. No running water till ya return back to the office.

They put your gear and helmet on, then they drive everyone up to the start of the tour. I think there were 6 total spots we zip lined from. The tour lasted about 2 hours, maybe a little more. The girls working were all super friendly and helpful. They always made us feel safe. They basically do everything for you here, including slowing you down at the end so you don't have to worry about it. At one point I got stuck, but the girl came and got me and I never felt scared. They teach you how to go faster, slow down, and go upside down. They'll also take a few fun pictures of you zip lining that you can purchase afterwards!

My friend and I had the chance to zip-line through the scenic town of Gatlinburg, and it was an…read moreexperience we won't soon forget. After getting fitted with our harnesses and helmets, we took a UTV up the mountain to the course's starting point. The course had six lines in total. The first was fairly easy and definitely helped build our confidence, while the next few gave us a chance to get comfortable and find our bearings. One of the lines stretched over 1,200 feet, and because each was set up as a dual zip line, my friend and I were able to race each other along the way. One of the best parts was the scenery. Flying through the trees with views of the Great Smoky Mountains and downtown Gatlinburg below was an incredible experience. On a particularly clear day, you can even see into North Carolina. Between some of the lines, we also had to cross a skybridge to reach the next section of the course, which added another fun element to the adventure. Our guides, Leah, Gracie, and Kira, were incredibly helpful throughout the experience. They assisted us on and off the lines, kept things fun with their personalities and humor, and made us feel comfortable the entire time as we flew through the forest. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting or spending time in the Gatlinburg area. They'll take great care of you, and you're guaranteed to have a lot of fun. It's the kind of experience that creates great memories, whether you're there with friends, family, or a group.
