I have…read morelong been the poster child for Seasonal Affective Disorder, however in 2025 I'm hoping to change that. To hell with new year resolutions, I'm just challenging myself to find activities that make me happy during the dark and stormy months. I've been doing macro nature photography, antiquing, and finding as many opportunities to play in the water as possible. I recently stumbled upon some photos and reviews from the East Portland Community Center pool and I was amazed to find out folks use lazy rivers in pools as walking tracks! Sure, dear reader, you may spend time in gyms and know this to be a "thing," but it's news to me! Well, I tried it out this week and it's quite possibly my new favorite activity! I get to spend time in the water, make new friends, and burn some calories while I'm at it. The community center is vibrant and bustling with all kinds of folks doing activities they love, which makes me really happy. I'm incredibly impressed with how much of a well-oiled machine Portland Parks and Rec is. They are able to get an astounding number of people in/out of this pool each week with swimming classes for beginners, baby and me classes, lap swim sessions, aqua aerobics, current channel walking, free swim, hot tub usage, and so much more! I love seeing my tax dollars being put to use so effectively. This week I've paid for three individual sessions because I wanted to make sure this new interest isn't a passing fancy, but after a few days as a regular at the pool I'd like to take this relationship to the next level. I'm getting a monthly pass tomorrow! So here's to new activities that make us happy in the new year. That's not a resolution, it's just a good way to live life.

The cafe sits on a busy corner on NE Glisan and is a newer structure with lots of windows. The person waiting on me benefited from their barista training program. They were friendly and served as a great ambassador for their overall mission. The prices were competitive and their baked goods were tasty. I didn't realize until I was leaving, but they also have breakfast items. That will be for next time! They have a clean and accessible restroom and parking was not a problem. It's also conveniently located on a bus line. I will definitely return and support their mission.

Their official grand opening is in early June, but the innovative space has opened its doors to local businesses for a soft launch in the North Montavilla neighborhood. I love the concept behind Stone Soup and I strongly believe in their mission of "building economic stability for people experiencing barriers to employment." They've been operating for several years in another location, and already have a strong track record of changing lives. This Montavilla location allows their trainees experience with public-facing food service in a cafe setting, serving a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options - in addition to coffee and tea. There was a limited menu available during the soft launch today, but I thoroughly enjoyed my slice of banana cake with cream cheese frosting, as well as a steaming cup of fresh coffee. The interior space offers bar and table seating, and visitors will find even more seating outside. The cafe is a cornerstone business on the first floor of the new Glisan Landing residential complex, and it marks the beginning of a new age of development in this part of Portland. Three cheers for making a positive impact in the community, thank you!

And maybe the 666th time I've tried to quit. But I am blessed for anyplace that let me stay for 3 months so I can get clean. Just know if they say they are going to "store" your stuff. They ether keep it or just toss it in the basement to never be found again. Anyway xoxo ily Ps I still live on Maui so mahalo from this haloe.

He has been fighting and advocating for himself before even making it into treatment. They care little for the addicts they have in their care and are doing my husband more harm than good at this point as he is trying to transition from inpatient to intensive outpatient. Such a shame as when this facility was DePauls it was so helpful. As a dual therapy program, they've refused him adequate mental health resources. He is currently feeling so alone and like no one is willing to help him. They care more about policing the coffee than offering addicts help and support. Total bullshit staff and administrator. Shame on this facility. Do NOT send your loved ones here.

When he complained about not being able to sleep, and how much pain he was in, the nursed would ask him the same questions that another nurse had asked him the day before. Then we got a lot of "I'll leave a note for your doctor". It seems that the note never got left because we were told that several times about my Dads pain. He would occasionally go up to 11 hours without it. It was prescribed for every 6. So I asked for a list of his medications and the times that he is given them. I have medical power of attorney, so it seems easy enough. Nope! Not here. First I asked a woman at the front desk area, who refused to give me her name, and she told me I had to find his nurse.... Well, he was nowhere around my Dad's room, so I asked his CNA, Moreno. She told me that I had to ask his nurse. Like Im supposed to wander around the care facitly looking for his nurse. So I hit his call button. 25 minutes later, I timed it, Moren, his CNA came in. "I don't need you, I need his nurse", I said. He finally came in and asked the same questions and said he'd leave the doctor a note. Unbelievable. So I tried to contact 2 people in charge of his care, Debbie and Joyce. No one answered the number I was given by his nurse Jordan, and Debbie hasn't replied to my email. It's been over a week and still no response. I am beyond pissed off about this. I would tell anyone looking for a care facility, full-time or for recovery, to pass on this one. They obviously don't care much about their patients. And, sorry this is so long. If anyone from the facility would have called me back, I would have told them all of this in such less public way. Please! Pick the next one on the list...

I stated several times that I am allergic to cucumbers, and yet they were still in every salad (I ate a lot of salad because so much of the food was inedible.) They were short staffed, so I frequently waited up to 20 minutes for a CNA, not good when the meds give you diarrhea. Most of the staff gave it their best, but not all. One night an older woman (I presume a CNA) came in, bent over my bed and shook me angrily. I was stunned, but later figured out that she thought I was the woman crying, "Help me, someone please help me," on and off all night. Still no excuse for what she did, and she should be fired for patient mistreatment. I would NEVER allow a relative of mine to be here; they don't pay enough attention to what patients need, and at least one of the actually abused me.
