I have fallen into a tradition of Friday night dinner with some of my other expat work colleagues…read moreand one of them suggested coming here for dinner, as he'd enjoyed it when he'd come here previously in the company of his team -mates. So made a booking for 5 ppl and we started out with drinks which were absolutely fabulous! I reckon no matter what you order, it'll be good as the bartenders clearly know their craft! We got Nachos (Vegetarian) to start at €7 and this arrived with wonderfully warm and freshly fried taco chips. Re: the toppings- they maybe had too much cheese for my taste, but made up for that issue with equally decent amounts of salsa/ sour cream & guacamole. The great taste of just this entree gave me massive anticipation that the mains would be fantastic too, and they indeed lived up to expectations! For my main, I got x3 kinds of the Soft Tacos, as ordered them from the entree menu, rather than the mains menu, where you only got three of a kind as the option. My choices were: 1) Pulpo (octopus) - absolutely delicious! Good generous amount of tender baby octopus tentacles and when I squeezed a bit of the accompanying lime, the taste was truly a party in my mouth. Would absolutely order this again. 2) Pulled pork - wow! Tender and the use of just perfect spices. The marinated onions added an additional piquancy. Loved it, however some sour cream wouldn't have gone amiss with this soft taco. 3) Jackfruit - holy Moly this was spicy! I didn't like the taste of this as much as the other two options that I tried, and actually ended up taking some of the pulled pork and mixing it with the jackfruit and that combo was much more to my taste. Also I was supposed to have avocado garnish on this soft taco, but as you will see from my photo, there was absolutely none! It was indeed a bit slow on the service (as other reviews have mentioned) but the taste of the food was par excellence so while I would have liked to bump it up to 5 stars, am not happy about the missing avocado garnish, so it's a 4. BTW it was funny to observe that once our mains hit the table, there was absolute dead silence and the kind of reverence normally reserved for church that descended on our table - the food really is that good! Although fairly full, we had enjoyed the mains so much, we decided to also check out dessert options. I went with the Pastel de chocolate and my fellow dinners ordered a Cheesecake as well as the Tapachula. We also asked for extra spoons as had intended to share dessert, but once those plates hit our table, good intentions of sharing went out the window!!! I loved the taste of my chocolate mousse cake! The crisp crust used some kind of buttery, vaguely cinnamony tasting biscuit which complimented the chocolate mousse perfectly. Also the mousse was super light and fluffy and just so good! To deal with the chocolate overload, this dessert had an orange sorbet ice to keep things from getting too heavy. Altogether a wonderful end to the meal and my other two co-diners said that their desserts had hit the spot too! I so want to come back again! In this restaurant, have found an excellent proper Mexican food place to go to in Amsterdam! Yelp 51/ 2019

Okay, so this was better than I expected it to be (my expectation for Mexican restaurants in Europe…read moreis very low) but of course still not great. The food itself was good but you can't really call it Mexican. First of all, chips and salsa came as we were placing our order. Normal in America, but impressive for Holland. We had a decent size basket of chips but the little tiny tiny container of salsa the gave us was only good for about 10 little dips and that was it. I ordered chicken fajitas because I figured it would be pretty hard to mess that up. Well, when they came, it looked and tasted petty good, but was missing a few things and had some strange additions. First off there was not cheese! Secondly there was corn and cucumbers is with the grilled chicken peppers and onions...who grills cucumbers?? The meat itself was good but as were the peppers and onions but there was far too few peppers and onions. The dish came with guacamole on the side and while it certainly was not the best I ever had, I was happily surprised to see that it was green (a lot of times in Holland you see brown guacamole...yuck!) and tasted okay. My friend ordered tacos. I was considering this option too but it only came with two tacos which I thought would not be enough. When their dish came, they were two average size tacos, but on a big plate with beans and some salades so it actually would be an okay sized portion with all that extra stuff. In conclusion, an okay meal just not really Mexican.
