All three of my kids attended Santee music academy (ages 6, 6, & 9) and all of the teachers were well prepared for each session and kept the lessons engaging. My 6yo son loved his lessons with Joey and I highly recommend him for drums (I'm sure he's excellent at guitar also). He learned a ton in a short amount of time and Joey even played the guitar while my son drummed live at his first recital. Joey was very passionate about teaching and was always excited when my son finally nailed a section of song he had been working on. Santee music academy has great teachers. The only reason we stopped going is because sports with three kids resulted in too many conflicts and our goal was to expose them to music at a young age and then see if they want to come back to it in the future under their own desire. read more

I drove 25 minutes to get to Santee Music Academy. I paid for a 30 minute trial for vocal lessons. Sandra Osuna was completely unprepared and was wasting time during my session. She ran out of ideas for warm ups. She was constantly checking her watch. She spent most of her time doing things on her phone. She kept asking me, "So, what did you learn today?" She got upset when I said, "Nothing really." I find myself sitting there waiting for her most of the session. I would say we worked on vocals for a total of 15 mins. This was a waste of time, waste of gas, and waste of $25. read more

This is a wonderful music academy! My son has been learning drums here for several months now and he just got done with their "rock band camp". This has been a really positive experience for him. As a guitar instructor at a local private school myself I can tell you they know their stuff. My son's drum instructor Angel is a positive influence and works well with kids. We started voice lessons with Matt and my daughter absolutely loved him. He helped her get comfortable and got her out of her shell. (She's 7) We worked with him for a few weeks and discussed adding guitar lessons into her vocal lessons starting the next week, which she was very excited about. On the Wednesday before her lesson on Saturday we received a text message that said Matt was no longer available to teach my daughter. At first we were SUPER bummed but we rolled with it. I asked about whether she would still be doing vocal/guitar combo with the new instructor and they said they would look into it and get back to me. On Friday they followed up to say they didn't have anyone available on Saturday's for both and we would only be doing vocals the next day. We rolled with it despite that not being the initial plan and I was appreciative that they followed up. When we showed up that next day, it was rocky. The new girl was running late and my daughter was nervous but no big deal. During her lesson the girl at the front desk offered to see if Matt would be available to continue my daughters lessons for the next two weekends before he moved to a different facility, despite them saying he wasn't available anymore. Then she said they would revisit scheduling to see who in their staff would be available on a Saturday, if anyone. I said that would be great since he does guitar/voice! So she called Matt, and then called me back to confirm we were good to go with Matt for the next two weeks. Today, I get a call from the office and they tell me that after talking with the director Matt isn't available, after-all. What?! There just seems to be some communication problems in house and it's extremely frustrating. I chose this school, rather than an independent music teacher, to have my daughter in prescheduled lessons so it doesn't become a scheduling disaster like this. I have three kids and work fuIl time, I just don't have the time to deal with their inability to figure out the schedule. Even if I didn't there needs to be better communication within the school to prevent back and forth like that. Especially when the reason the teacher isn't available is because he's transferring to another location. I literally ended the conversation with her letting her know we just wouldn't be coming back and thanked her for calling. I just can't. Pros: The teachers are engaging and sweet, knowledgeable, rooms are monitored by video. Front desk has always been kind/cordial to us. Covid precautions taken. Facility is clean. Cons: They struggle with scheduling, they gave little notice that current teacher would no longer be available. They've outgrown the facility they are currently in. The two times I waited for my daughter in the front area I overheard the front desk personnel and other employees talking negatively about other coworkers and the owner, in front of customers. All in all not a terrible place but there should be some things addressed by the director or owners to ensure things operate more smoothly and professionally. We won't be going back and will likely try school of rock next but are appreciative of the lessons Matt gave to our daughter and wish them all nothing but the best! read more

My daughter and son take lessons here. They have both been playing piano for 9+ years in a group setting and when we felt they were too advanced for the group we switched them to Santee Music Academy. It was a great decision! They have both benefitted greatly from the one-on-one lessons and they both really enjoy learning songs they want to learn, as well as learning the theory and technical aspects of music. My daughter takes violin and piano lessons with Jessica and my son takes piano lessons with Andy. They are both awesome and have been a great asset to us! read more

Desert Rose Studios is a great place to go for all your music needs. I've been taking guitar lessons with Tina for about a year and half now, which is about a year and a half longer than I thought I'd stick with guitar. :-) As an adult learner, it doesn't come easily to me, but Tina does a great job adapting her teaching methods to deal with me. She's super supportive and the periodic recitals are a great way to practice playing in front of a non-judgmental audience.
