I thought this place had closed, and recently found out they did not- they just moved around the corner! My daughter and I brought in a big pile of things in for alterations. She had us try each item on, confirmed what we wanted, gave us options for how to get the results we wanted, and even made suggestions for things I would never have thought of. One example- I had this jumpsuit I've owned for 10 years and never worn because it was a bit too baggy here and a little too long there and had this weird button trim that stuck out and didn't quite fit in the chest area (too loose under the arms). She told me how she would fix all of those things, but not only that, she suggested I take in a part of the thigh to make the wide leg tighter at the top and more flared at the bottom. She said it would be more flattering and up-to-date and pinched it to show me, and damn! It was! Everything came out perfect, was ready when she said it would be, and I was pleasantly surprised by the bill! It's really awesome wearing things that just languished in my closet for years because they didn't fit quite right. We went back a second time with more things and dry-cleaning- same great experience. I want to alter everything I own now :) read more

The sweetest person ever! I called and went to different "tailor" places in downtown and nope none of them can fix my dress. When I walked in she was nice and quick with a price and date for me to pick up my dress. It took her about 20 days just because she had a lot of other clothing to work on but she charged me 18$ to fix my Iamgia dress! Always perfect and always delightful. Maria is super intuitive, understands all of my suggestions and questions right away. Quick turn around at the right price. I've never left unsatisfied or discouraged. When I drop off clothes I'm confident they're gonna be exactly as desired when I pick up. Parking stinks but can't hold that against the business. All tailors are not created equal. At least that's what I've discovered over the years. For example, I already have a great tailor that does phenomenal work on jeans and shorts -- but when I took a suit to her late last year, the work just wasn't what I expected. So when I bought a couple new suits recently, I knew I would need a tailor that specializes in business attire and formal wear. I found Sante Tailoring through Yelp. It wasn't the first place I contacted, but it was definitely the most helpful over the phone. See, I had bought the suits over the weekend, and needed at least one done within a week. The first couple places I called basically laughed at me, with one even telling me that it would be at least a three-week turnaround time. But Sante Tailoring told me they'd work with me right away, and could satisfy my request with ease. I will warn you; the location can be a bit tough to find if you're not familiar with building. Just go through the door where you think it should be, and there's a whole hallway inside with the kind of fluorescent lighting that makes you wonder if you're about to be in the cold open for an episode of SVU. Sante is one of the rooms in this hallway, and it is just a room -- there's a bunch of clothes, a tiny "counter," and a curtain draped in the corner for changing. This also shouldn't worry you, though it probably still will. I quickly learned that Sante Tailoring is a husband-wife duo. Maria was the one I had talked to and she helped me with marking up both suits. When we spoke on the phone, she had asked me to bring in my belt, and I'm super glad I did -- she showed me how she would make sure the pant waist wouldn't bunch when I was wearing a belt (something no tailor has ever asked me before). She did full markings, and was very careful to ensure that the seat, leg width, and pant length was to my exact liking. It was all very easy and it really made me comfortable that she knew what she was doing. To this point, we had never actually discussed price. Both suits would need the pants altered in the waist, crotch, and pant leg, but the jackets only needed the sleeves shortened. There was no rush charge, and the first suit would be done that week with the second one the middle of the following week. So I was a little surprised when she quoted me $162, or $81 per suit. When I mentioned that the first suit jacket needed a press as well, she told me it would be an additional $7.50, bringing the total up to just a shade under $170. This was, frankly, more than I expected. Still, so much had already been done that I felt compelled to give them the chance. If she had quoted me that price up front, I might not have gone through with it. I should mention that my concern here wasn't with Sante Tailoring -- in the end, the quality of the work made the pricing obsolete -- but rather with my fellow peers on Yelp that put only $ for the price indicator. This pricing probably warrants a $$ or maybe even a $$$, which I will admit looks stupid when I type it. I made my peace, though, and am glad I did. I picked up my first suit that Friday, and the pants fit exactly to my specifications. Same with the second pick-up. In fact, I don't think I've ever had a pair of suit pants that fit this well. I can also tell the stitching is very well-done, and for the first time with a suit I don't feel the need to cautiously put one leg on at a time. I don't know if I feel like a million bucks in these suits, but I definitely feel like at least a couple hundred thousand. I'll let you know when I need a nicer suit tailored. In the end, I am very glad I found Sante Tailoring, and will continue to use them in the future for all my professional needs. Any pricing expectations and eccentricities should be thrown out the window; this is a quality tailor and you should not hesitate to come here when you need to look your best. read more

I've been to a lot of tailoring shops in my time. Good, bad, pricey, rude, you name it. But this place tops them all. I tried this place out based on their yelp reviews - Thank God I did!! The Pros: 1- Sante Tailoring is very reasonably priced - for example, she only charge $2 to sew on buttons or $5-7 for hemming. 2- They are very nice people that work/run Sante. It's only Maria and her husband. 3- Excellent customer service - for example I didn't like the length of my hem after it was altered and Maria offered to fix it free of charge 3 months after I picked up the pants. 4- Excellent work - their stitching looks exactly like original manufacturing stitching. 5- They offer very cheap dry cleaning services too! $1.75 to launder mens button up shirt The Cons: 1- sometimes, it takes a few extra days to get the tougher alterations back - for example, shortening sleeves Overall, this place is excellent. I highly recommend Sante. Their location is off of 7th street, but you have to go thru a building on 7th street in order to get to Sante Tailoring, which sits at the end of the building. I've never gotten dry cleaning done here, so I can't vouch for that, but I have had tailoring services. Maria is sweet as pie and the service is inexpensive, so this place isn't a total loss, but my experience was less-than-great. I'd lost about 20 lbs since since I'd bought my favorite dress 5 years ago, so I brought it to the shop to be taken in and to have the straps removed. When I picked up the dress, the straps were still on. She remembered that I had asked for the straps to be removed, but had forgotten to actually do it. I waited while she removed the straps, and I tried the dress on. It was barely taken in. I had to be refitted (an extra 3.5 inches were taken out!), and was told to come by in a few days. The next time I came in, the dress fit fine, but was told that-- because the dress was taken in-- I would have to put in a new closure for the zipper. Other tailors I've gone to have made any necessary adjustments and just called me about it to arrange a change in price accordingly; it was strange to have her know that it needed to be done and NOT do it (or notify me in advance). I told her I'd do it myself; I didn't want to make another trip. On top of that, I was charged more than what was initially agreed upon/ what was on my receipt. And with the gas/ parking/ hassle of downtown, their cheap rates and pleasant personalities seem rather insignificant. read more

I don't really know how much discrepancy there can be from one dry cleaners to the next. I would think that if you screw up a couple of garments, word gets around that you're not-so-good and then you shut your doors for good. What I'm trying to say is Sante's hasn't screwed up any of my clothes, they're quick, and they're friendly. I don't know of a place that isn't all of the above, but I do know that Maria is the bomb, and she did a heckuva job cuffing my pants. When I put my pants on (one leg at a time, just like everyone else) and see that full break in the morning, I always think of Maria and of Sante's. Actually, that's a lie. Couldn't be happier with my repair and dry cleaning service from Maria. I brought her two pairs of slacks to be dry cleaned and had to have the seam next to the zipper sewn on one pair. Maria was so sweet and explained that she wasn't going to be available till the following week as she was going out of town but would have them ready as soon as she got back. I wasn't in a big rush so that was fine with me. I couldn't believe how cheap the repair and dry cleaning was. She only charged me $12 total and did an excellent job. Only been here once, but I can honestly say.... this is the best tailor I have ever worked with. Amazing job. I am very petite, so i am constantly getting my clothes taken in. I had a dress and 3 skirts hemmed and taken in. They look like they were custom made this way. Incredible. Bravo Maria, bravo. The only problem is parking... that can be a challenge... I have been going to Maria at Sante's Tailoring for years. I see her for both tailoring and dry-cleaning. I cannot say enough good things about her and the quality of her work. A lot of my friends and co-workers are loyal customers as I am. I will not take my clothes anywhere else! Over the years until I met Maria, I have tried tailors at every price point, every location, but none have measured up to Maria. She has impeccable taste and knows what looks good on you and is best for your body type. She can do any type of alteration and work on any type of garment from jeans to a wedding dress. To top it off, Maria is very sweet and treats you like family. Her shop is next door to another tailor shop so please don't get confused by stopping at the first tailor place (look for her sign!) You walk in to her shop (used to be right off the street, now it's from an 'inner courtyard / hallway' in the Yoga building right around the corner from B street, and you can be overwhemed with her kindness. She has this beautiful accent (she is originally from Mexico) and guess what: Sante speaks Italian!!! Yes, she married an Italian. She works hard, long hours, without taking a break. She is a true ENTREPRENEUR. She is passionate about this little shop of hers. She brings in her lunch, and once a week Sante brings lunch to her. He is retired and I love to give him a difficult time about this, because his wife works so darn hard. He does do an amazing job at tailoring, especially suits, but that was mostly in his past because he is retired. It's not so bad when you have an Italian cook at home, but when it's always heavy pasta... well, enough said. Back to the shop: MARIA IS AMAZING AND WONDERFUL and incredibly professional. We always exchange nice conversation while I am there, but what has amazed me is the level of PROFESSIONALISM that just exudes from her tiny little shop. She is always prompt (usually a two day turnaround for dry cleaning as it is done off-location) and hemming has never been a problem. This is a review from a young lady living in Hillcrest / Mission Hills where the prices are just OUTRAGIOUS. I used to work right accross the street from Maria's shop, but have worked in La Jolla Cove for the last two years, and I insist on driving the extra 15 minutes South just to have Maria clean my husbands' work shirts. Her shop does a better job than anywhere I have been, and at the best prices (short of trekking to PB which I will NOT do). In summary: the quality and promptness and professionalism are what keep me going back to see Maria at Sante's tailoring. I'm pretty picky and have her re-work an entire dress to make it look tailored to me and it came out perfect, exactly as I'd hoped.
