Santana High School was a TERRIBLE host, they were the host of a football game vs. a primarily colored school's football team and cheerleaders. As a guest coming with the rival school, I honestly felt the racism, weird stares, side talks, and discrimination against us colored people. To put it into perspective for everyone of how WE ALL FELT AS A TEAM: Like we were part of a zoo and being looked at as some sort of out of planet beaning. To begin with they charged our varsity team $10 to play, didn't allow our cheerleaders to enter through the main football entrance and instead were told to go all the way around the back through the rocky little path with all the dirt, when we could have easy walked down the steps and around the field. As a form of hiding us. Then throughout the night when our athletes had to use the restroom, they were told to use the porta potty on the dark side of the field or stopped by Santana students saying, "hey you can't use our bathroom go over there". Even during half time when trying to check out the food options Santana students would show rude gestures and purposely blocking our athletes. I would confidently even say their refs for the night was also racist and showing lenience with Santana players but showing no mercy to our team. Not only did I see this... Also parents on the stands. As a guest there I can say I truly am disgusted with Santana High School. read more

Little student control, many teachers have obvious favoritism towards certain students and let them take priority over well-behaving ones, students saying racial/homophobic/ableist slurs is anything but frowned upon at the very least, no justice is done towards acts of bullying, assault, sexual harassment etc read more

This complaint goes to the office staff, there are a handful. Only a couple of you have been actually helpful in helping and guiding my daughter and myself. She started there as a 9th grader, now a junior. We are changing schools at this point. Santana, look up her grades. A student. You always seemed hostile whenever she had to interact with the nurse or front office staff. She was afraid to come to you when needed. Even up until the process of changing schools. We weren't given clear instructions. She had to come back because Sherry who first directed me wasn't there. We showed up again, nobody knew. Then it was figured out, where this necessary paperwork was so she could check out. I signed off, green light for my daughter to pick it up and start the process. She was treated like she should have known what to do. She was missing her library book on the last day before break. I tried to finish off the process today and called to inform the office that it would be me to deliver the book and complete the sign out process to go to another school. They called me back momentarily (not normal for the concern level). Originally my daughter was told they'd be closing at normal time. Glad I called. They at least called me back, thanks Stacy, and told me they were having a luncheon per the principal and were closing earlier than expected when she talked to me. The teachers are teaching. Some take pride and some don't care. We are indifferent at the moment because the incompetent office staff helped to seal the deal in deciding to go to another school. Santana office staff, you suck. I wish I did involve your principal. We are just done, however. Be nicer. Get an education on communication and be more tolerant. The lot of you are nasty. read more

Browining I am not sure what her first name is but my daughter told me it what she goes by, who was talking about my daughter and her IEP in front of other people and students separate times. Browning also has an inappropriate way of interacting with students. She purposely shows her body in various ways by standing and being intentionally close to students in a very disgusting way. I will be taking my daughter out of this school because of the amount of staffs and the principal who cannot take anything professionally or take care of anything the right way. read more

Back in May, I had the privilege of being among the guests invited to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for a much anticipated addition to Santana High School. This addition is a well-needed, state of the art events and physical education building, long overdue for the students and faculty. This building boasts over 21,000 square feet that brings together the performing arts and physical education. This connection is developed through the Hall of Fame, which physically connects the two groups. In addition to showcasing the School's rich heritage, the Hall of Fame area acts as a meeting space during events. The project also includes boys and girls locker room, coaches' offices, sports team rooms, restrooms and showers, wrestling rooms, dance room, trainer's room, and multi-use event space with telescoping theatre seating. It was incredibly endearing to see current and former staff taking pride in their campus' accomplishment, honoring the fact that they will be Sultans forever. Like most, I remember my former high school well. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Santana is my alma mater (class of 2002) and the place where I met my husband, Brandon. Santana High School - Middle Schools & High Schools Near Me - Santee, California

This school isn't given the credit it deserves. There is a newer, prettier school down the road a couple miles that overshadows SHS (built in the 60s). I can also say that it's been years since the football program has been much to talk about, and the track & field program isn't ay better. However, there are many other sports that are successful (my graduating year, the school had more league championships than any other school in the district/league). As far as education goes, like any other public school in California, it's fine. Of course, there are teachers & staff that are strongly disliked, as well as some that make their pupils question their credentials. But you would find that anywhere. There are also some teachers there that everybody loves, and others kids call the "best teacher ever". Some people can trash talk this school, just as all schools are trash talked.. But that is what happens in high school. And people who complain about "not getting a good education" may have some blame in that themselves, as well. In fact, my graduating year, the top 60 people in the class had a 3.8 GPA or better, many going on to some of the finest colleges & universities in the country. Also, in many areas, the test scores have been superior to many other high schools across San Diego County. To base a review on a personal experience at a school is harsh, considering how awkward many people's high school years were, also considering how vastly different people are in general. MY opinion is the school is just another public high school, like almost any other. I also believe it is a good idea to look into the facts about any school before sending a child there. NOT just what other people say. Look at the test scores and the sports program that are of personal interest before making a decision. read more

I have two kids at Santana right now. They are having a really good experience at this school and quite frankly, as a parent I will hate for it to end. They are active in sports, the academic aspect is challenging them. I feel they will be very prepared for college in the few short years left. Haven't had any interaction with administrators which is usually good in high school, However my dealing with teachers has been great. I appreciate their passion for the job, I bet that can be hard sometimes. read more
