It was more my fault than theirs. They were super nice about it and got my 2nd order to me fast. Salsa is good. Tacos were yummy. While picking up the food I noted it was a pretty cool environment. It was Friday night and they were doing Kareoke. Including pics of the menu so others don't have the issue I had.

Two large steaks on a sizzling "fajita" pan with the usual side items. The steaks were perfect. Easy to cut, easy to eat. Delicious. Service was great. The restaurant is clean and comfortable.

Being from California and having lived in Mexico, I was skeptical when my partner said the food at…read moreEl Ranchito would satisfy my craving for Mexican, but I agreed to give it a try. The restaurant is large and light and airy. Service was prompt and to the point. I had the carnitas tacos, which were pretty large - the meat was decent though, and I wasn't disappointed. I could not finish the large plate of rice and refried beans that came with it though. My partner had his favorite, the "molcajete" a huge stone bowl of surf and turf (see photo). Overall, the food is more like TexMex than authentic Mexican, but it isn't bad. I enjoyed the tacos, and if I ever find myself in Jackson again I would probably be back.

Plato Feliz has officially earned a spot on my "never again" list. I ordered the Chimichanga El Oro…read morebecause it was reasonably priced. The shrimp and chicken chimichangas were good, but the steak was completely bland. No seasoning. No flavor. Nothing. But the food wasn't even the worst part. The restaurant had a sign outside advertising $5 mimosas today. I don't even drink mimosas, but because they were advertised as a special, I ordered one. Imagine my surprise when my bill showed $9.95 instead. When I questioned it, my server and two other employees informed me the special only applied from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Funny how that important detail wasn't on the sign that convinced me to order one in the first place. Instead of honoring the advertised price, they expected me to eat the extra charge because of information they failed to disclose. I paid because arguing over five dollars wasn't worth my time, but it's the principle. If you're going to advertise a special, advertise the entire special, not just the part that gets customers to buy. Businesses wonder why people stop supporting them. This is exactly why. Misleading advertising, no accountability, and no effort to make things right over a mistake that was entirely theirs. They lost a customer over $4.95. Not because of the money, but because of the dishonesty and poor customer service. I'll never be back, and I certainly won't recommend Plato Feliz to anyone. Do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere that values honesty and treats customers fairly.

(Out of 5 stars) Spice: -4 stars: While the crawfish tails didn't have much of the spice, you could definitely find it in the head and in the garlic, celery, onions. It was a great flavor and had plenty of kick; I just wish it made it into the tail meat. Crawfish Taste/Texture: -4 stars: the crawfish needed to soak longer to absorb the flavor better and to allow the tail meat to separate from the shell more. 25% of my tails were sticking to the shell and came out crumbly and were likely boiled for too long (over-cooked). Summary: needs less time boiling, more time soaking. Crawfish size: -3 stars: For May I definitely expected larger crawfish than I got. Most were on the small side. Potatoes: -3 stars: standard red potatoes; not large but not small. They were bland and clearly not cooked in the same pot as the crawfish or at least not nearly long enough. Service: -5 stars: live music and a nice outdoor seating area. Staff was friendly and quick. I'll probably be back at some point because I did enjoy the food, but it didn't take the place of my favorite place in town for boiled crawfish.
