Yummy yummy yummy, these smoothies are so good!…read more I like smoothies because they're tasty and I feel like I'm being healthy when I have one! I like making my own at home and I often pretend to myself that start making some to take to work with me...I know I never will. But that's when places like this come in handy! Smoothies is in the Arndale markets, right on the edge, you can't miss it and you really shouldn't, it's a good place for you to re-fuel after (or during) a hard days shopping! My personal favourite has to be the Strawberry Peach one, so fruity! They have a stupid amount of different ones to choose from though and they'll make anything you suggest, every smoothie is blended from fresh fruit right in front of your eyes. They also do energy booster 'hits' but I've always been too scared to try them. Maybe one day!

I'd eat a bowlful of fresh pineapple as enthusiastically as I'd munch some Skittles in the cinema. And I'd slurp a smoothie with as much gusto as a chocolate milkshake. Well, I've found my smoothie temple. 98% fat free frozen yoghurt and fruit. That's all that goes into these bad boys, served up by smiley and friendly people who are more than happy to help you out with your five a day. And goodness me, do they taste like an indulgent treat. My medium sized Pineapple Blush, a simple blend of raspberry and pineapple, felt like a dessert, and at less than £3 it was a bargain too! In the Arndale Food Market as well. Where else? Now I know exactly where to get my frozen fruit fix while I'm shopping in the sales. There are tons of flavour combinations including the Cobana, which blends together pineapple, coconut milk and banana. And it's stumbling distance from my house. What could be better to wean you off your summer cocktails into a full on detox? Guilt-free deliciousness. What more could you ask...

Although the food menu is not particularly extensive, they serve several sandwiches including plenty of veggie options and a bacon and egg ciabatta sandwich at the weekends. At £4.15 for a tuna toastie this is somewhere I've never eaten but I can vouch for the delicious juices and smoothies and the comfy interior of this café. The ginger spice juice is delicious and if you're suffering the effects of the night before then you can order a 'detoxifier'. As James states there is also a community notice board to tempt you with all manner of yoga, pilates and Buddhist meditation classes which I'm sure will work wonders alongside your detoxifier. All very Chorlton.

That little notice board warmed my cold cold heart, making me feel like I was back living in a time when community spirit still existed. On the strength of this notice board alone I'm awarding the Battery Park Juice Bar five stars and supporting it for next years Nobel Peace Prize- hey, if Obama can win it for nothing more heroic than simply not being George Bush then who knows?! In fact, I might make my own case next year on the grounds that I haven't been nasty to my little sister in ages and I'm not called Adolf.

The staff are extremely friendly, I've seen the same young guy on shift every time I've been in and he makes you feel welcome every time, although I bit sorry for him having to be at work, early doors on the weekends. They have a good staple selection of traditional breakfasts, no fancy bagels or Benedict's of any sort to be found, which is not a bad thing when they use quality local sourced ingredients. As Raam pointed out in his review they use meat from Axons of Didsbury which is only a few doors further down the road. The coffee is very good and warrants a second cup with your breakfast and they've even served my friend an ultra big size each time he's asked even though it's technically not on the menu to provide him with his caffeine fix. Although I'm not a tea drinker I have it on good authority the tea selection top notch and they provide you with all the sundries which appear necessary, a separate milk pot and extra hot water provided with your loose leaf tea. There are newspapers provided and free wi-fi for those more technological media addicts. They promote local artists work on the walls as well which is a nice touch and most of the work is for sale if anythnig takes your fancy. It's something I've seen more and more in independent cafes and it's a practice of which I thoroughly approve. The only criticism which is more about the location. The tables are on the small side and wouldn't really accommodate a large group of people, this however adds to cosy cafe feel, as long as you a friendly enough with those you are eating with. It can however be a bit of a squeeze past if people are ordering or paying at the counter as you are trying to enter or leave. All in all a solid independent cafe just of the Didsbury high street, with great staff and a pleasant community feel.

I got lost looking for the restaurant after my phone died but finally found my friend at the top of the steps leading down to Earth. Service is set up like a cafeteria, and for just £7 you can pick 4 items from the line (up to 2 "mains".) I think everything in the line and dessert counter is vegan - I was struggling to find dairy/egg items in the menu. I feel like it's more palatable for them to sell themselves as a vegetarian rather than vegan restaurant. I picked up a hearty bean chili atop quinoa, braised cabbage, and a beautiful mushroom pie, in addition to a lime/lemongrass bottled drink and coffee/walnut cake. Portion sizes were huge and you feel very healthy eating the food - the bean chili could have used more seasoning, but the savory mushroom pie was divine! Creamy, savory, and textural, I was surprised at how well they veganized this classic. The cabbage was like tame sauerkraut, which cut the richness of the pie well. The cake was mildly sweet but had a wonderful bitter aftertaste, the scent of ground coffee lingering in my palate long after I finished the last bite. I had a taste of my friend's raw blueberry cheesecake and we had quite a bit of fun trying to guess what they made it out of. It was alright - I would've wanted to try the raw tiramisu, if they had it.

After searching endlessly and fruitlessly for weeks online for someone who could make exactly what I wanted, accept payment internationally, and deliver it to my BF, I messaged Mama Bear's, and the owner is an absolute ANGEL. She worked with me to decide on exactly what to create. Even though the things I asked for aren't typically items that she makes, she told me that she was a "romantic" and would be happy to make a special order for me. She even ended up adding decorations on her own because she wanted to make it extra special! Such a lovely person to work with!!! Her husband hand-delivered the cake & chocolate-covered strawberries to my boyfriend on our anniversary and even passed along a special message. My boyfriend was totally surprised and absolutely impressed with the presentation of the gift itself. He also said that the cake and strawberries were incredibly DELICIOUS!!! He really tried to ration them out to last longer, but they were so good he couldn't help eating them within about a week and a half haha. Mama Bear is the greatest, and if you live in the area, you should DEFINITELY choose her shop! I'd be there for coffee and baked goods daily if I didn't live across the pond! haha.
