I enjoyed my time here - it is clean and reasonably priced, but not more than a 3-star hotel…read more I stayed here for 4 nights on business. I upgraded to an executive suite. The room was spacious for Europe, with a large bedroom, entryway, and bathroom. The highlight was the patio balcony, overlooking the city. However, I didn't make much use of this, as there were only two chairs, no table, and no recliner on my patio (other patios did have a recliner). The hotel is only steps to the hospital area, and about a 10-minute walk to the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya (through a pretty park). The disadvantages of this hotel are as follows. Firstly, the location. Unless you need a hotel near the hospital, or near the conference centre, this is FAR from downtown (at least 30 minutes by taxi or public transport). There's really not much around. There are some coffee shops and restaurants, but these require 30 minutes walk minimum. Secondly, the rooms are somewhat dated. The bathrooms and carpets need updating. The wifi is terrible - barely usable for email, without an upgrade option. Finally, the gym is very basic. A treadmill (which I couldn't get to work), and elliptical, a couple of bikes, and some free weights. Overall, I was comfortable in my stay, and it was convenient for meetings at the conference centre (and cheaper than the Fairmont). It was worth the stay, but not an outstanding hotel.

The hotel is a bit outdated but the views are gorgeous. My room has a strong odor of a smoker…read more The front desk was kind and sent housekeeping up immediately. Unfortunately, the air freshener sprayed won't do the trick. I will sleep with my window open for fresh air! I'm easy.

We were…read moredelighted to find upon arrival that they had upgraded us to a suite AND provided us with 2 free beverage coupons for use in their onsite restaurant, Santa Clara. Since we were exhausted from traveling, we decided to relax with some tapas & those free drinks. We ordered a cheese board & an order of pan con tomate, both delicious. After a short nap & several hours of sightseeing, we returned to the hotel & decided to have dinner there. The weather was nice enough to eat on the terrace, which was lovely. Unfortunately, there was a large... and loud... private party close by. This was my only complaint, as they were also directly below our suite. We both enjoyed tropical drinks as a starter; a refreshing Pina Colada for me. The Argentinian steak with papas fritas & Padron peppers was perfectly cooked & so good! We finished with cheesecake with an Amareno cherry sauce & coffee. Wonderful! I wish the hotel was a bit closer to the core of the city. We used an Uber to traverse the 3+ miles to & back from La Rambla. However, we were in a lovely, quiet part of the city, so once the noisy private party left the premises, it was very peaceful.

For a 4 star hotel, we had too many problems with the room in 3 days…read more The room we had was upgraded to a junior suite. It was very big and spacious and looked like it was recently remodeled. This is the good about it. The bad was a shower that leaked water out the door, a room cleaned half heartedly with the last guest's clothing left in the shower, and a bottle of water they partially drank opened. A broken air conditioning that actually happened for all guests, and this morning, a leaking ceiling in the bathroom no less! Good room but bad bones in the building need to be addressed.

Grand Hyatt Barcelona- this grand Hyatt is a bit off from the level of other grand hyatts due to a…read morecombination of little things but all in all pretty good. Room cleanliness was really good everyday. Generally very clean everywhere. The breakfast buffet is excellent and as good as the other grand hyatts. If you get the order off the à la carte menu perk, the Benedict with smoked salmon is really good and the waffle is surprisingly good. Their mixed veggie and fruit juices are amazing. For dinner at the restaurant: I loved their version of patatas bravas, very crispy and hot inside, the mushroom croquettes were good but the filling was not super hot (maybe frozen originally?). Odd things: They have a smart elevator system but slow and pretty sure only two of the four worked. The room they put us in even though explorist was right by the elevator and had super bad soundproofing so everything everyone said coming back late from a party at 2 or 4 or whatever could be heard. Hair dryer didn't work. I almost got trapped in the service elevator that I only realized was service elevator was it was too late, it opened for me when I used my card but then wouldn't move or open the door. Thankfully lobby button worked. Water in the lobby was empty most of the time. Most of the servers at the restaurant/breakfast were super professional and nice except for one who was really awkward/tired, did a bunch of odd things, took our order, forgot what we ordered and then asked us about it and still put in the wrong order. Forgot our fruit drinks, didn't bother to ask me what coffee I wanted after giving the other person in my party their coffee, was really brusque in taking away the dishes.. Pool area is nice in morning but after midday they begin to play loud party music... Kind of far from city center.

Grand Hyatt Barcelona, which I suppose was known as Hotel Sofia, had a lot of potential. However,…read morethere were some areas we found to be lacking. They did leave us some goodies as they knew we were celebrating our honeymoon! We booked a king bed club level suite, which came with complimentary breakfast, club access, and tapas time (from 5-7pm daily). The tapas were actually pretty good and my favorite of the three options. The club is pretty weak, just snacks and a couple of small bites and a limited option of drinks. Didn't seem like there was a consistent staff member there, but one would pop up occasionally to clear the dirty trays. The not-so-great: rooms aren't very quiet. You can hear sounds and noises from the hallway and outdoors, even on higher floors. It's primarily from other guests, especially annoying when it's later at night. The gym is okay, but some equipment need some up keeping - like the accessories are pretty much all missing from one of the technogym machines. The treadmills also don't have any internet, so you can't log into your technogym account. The elevators are the worst. You have to pre-select your destination and then wait for whichever one you are prompted to go to. It doesn't take into account how big each group is, so sometimes it's a very long wait or gets quite cramped. Other guests also aren't very mindful with their bags, so you can get whacked by their personal belongings... like it occurred with yours truly. We didn't even bother with the gym or spa. It's a tiny pool and pretty busy when we peeked. There's also a lot of children at this hotel, so if you're looking for a relaxing getaway, you should probably look into a boutique hotel. Hotel is a smidge far from the tourist attractions, but it's close to a metro stop and a mall. It's also closer to the airport, which is good if that's what you're looking for!
