Unlike the hotel I stayed in Madrid, the room had a safe and two adapters for US style phone chargers. The shower is shoots water horizontally as well as vertically. Cons: We tried to mail a postcard to the U.S. from the front desk after buying postage from them. However, the postcard was received in the U.S. a month later! To be fair, this may not have been the fault of the hotel staff. While the shower itself is great, please be aware that this may not be a room for you if you are sharing it with a friend or colleague rather than a significant other. The person in the room with the bed can see the person showering because the glass to door to the shower is not completely covered.

For our first trip to Europe, we decided to book everything through a 3rd party booking agency which handled all flights, hotels and rail accommodations. Lucky for us and looking back on the overall trip, everything worked out with all travel and hotel stays. As Barcelona, was our first city on the trip we were pleasantly surprised when we walked up on Hotel H10 Itaca. Not knowing what to expect, especially being in a foreign nation where my espanol is muy pequito at best. Nonetheless, we walked in and were graciously greeted by their front desk staff. Success!!! They spoke English!!!! Upon a smooth check-in, we headed up to our floor and stopped at our hotel room door and paused... THE MOMENT OF TRUTH We walked in, looked around and let out a sigh of pure relief... The Spaniards like Americans believe in comfy beds, private restrooms (not community bathing areas) and beautiful views of the hustle and bustle of of the city below. Warning! Warning!! Warning!!! That fixture next to the to toilet in the bathroom is not a drinking fountain, but a Bidet and for the record... NO! I did not try it Hahaha. On our first night, we decided to go explore the city and see how the people of Barcelona get down. We walked about 10 minutes from the hotel peeking in at different restaurant menus along the way and decided to eat at tapas bar that looked inviting (no, this is not Spanish for topless bar) lol ADVICE: when ordering a beer, don't do like I did and almost say "dos Cervezas por favor" (It's not Mexico!) Fortunately, my wife did her homework ahead of time and told me to say, "Una Caña" when our server came around. Best part, the beer (caña) was Damn good and damn cheap too!! Ahhh just writing this I'm missing beautiful Barcelona. The next morning, we headed down to breakfast and Oh. What. A. Treat. A buffet-style meal that included all of the good stuff; cured meats, cheeses, pastries, eggs, yogurt, coffee, juices, let's just say I was a happy boy! The hotels location was quite ideal for everything we wanted or needed as it is just minutes away from the metro. There is a small bar and I mean a SMALL BAR on the ground level in the lobby that serves up local drinks. And of course, you know I had to check in on Yelp to receive my complimentary glass of Cava (Spain's sparkling wine) and it was GOOD!!!!! Well... I had fun going down memory lane and now I have an itch to go back to Barcelona, thanks Yelp ;) My only hope is that this review has helped inspire you to get out there, to travel and to experience other cultures because that's what life is all about! I went with this place based on TripAdvisor (I only cheated on Yelp because Barcelona is sparse on here). Overall, I was very happy with the decision: - Check in was simple and reception spoke English, Spanish and Catalan - The bathroom was large, had marble counters, a detachable shower head, and was filled with all kinds of toiletries and extra towels (and a bidet, if that's your thing) - There is a switch that opens and closes the main window, all Jetsons-like - There are three sets of curtains - total blackout - There is a large, easy to use safe in the room - I didn't order room service but the menu was fairly large - Price was 160 Euros for two nights - very reasonable If there were any downsides, it was these: - The bed felt like it was made of straw. Very weak mattress..thin like a pull out couch - No one was noisy when I was there, but the few times people were talking, you could tell that the walls were very thin. I think I got lucky. - The location has its ups and downs. It's two blocks from two different metro stations that can get you just about anywhere very quickly. However, there is literally nothing around the hotel, and it's a good 10-15 minute walk to even get to a main shopping/restaurant area. If you wanted to walk less (or want to stay out past the midnight Metro closing), then it could be annoying. I would definitely recommend this for a solo traveler or anyone looking to save money - lots of value for the price.

There's a coffee bar area with a kettle and free instant coffee and tea. I also love how they store shampoo, conditioner and soap in reusable containers instead of wasteful plastic little bottles. If you need anything else you can request it at the front desk. It's centrally located, walking distance to many places such as Las Ramblas and many restaurants/bars. The metro is right in front and very easy to use. We ended up ordering room service one night which was actually pretty good - kind of pricey though for a sandwich and chips. Just a note: there isn't a pool or fitness center on the premises so it's probably not the best option in the hotter months. It didn't affect me too much because it was chilly when I was there. But if you're looking for a nice place to stay with plenty to do around look no further.
