Hi there, This review is mainly for those who have curly…read morehair. I will start with a small description of my hair so you know what type of hair was dealt with this time. My hair is curly and my curls are various sizes but mostly from small curls to smaller ones. My hair is cute and sort of big umbrella on my head, its quite dry, frizzy and hard to manage. It all started when I saw a girl in a bar who has curly hair just like mine and I noticed how her curls were played with and catted in way that added shape and volume were it was needed. I asked her about the hairdresser and she said Neil Barton. I called the next day, got an appointment and I got my hair catted few days ago. When I walked in it was quite busy I explained and I felt communication skills was good, he listened to what I wanted and knew how to deal with my hair type. my hair was conditioned ( because I washed it at home) he gave instructions to the lady on how to brush curly hair and condition it. He then looked at my curls and took the time to see how they naturally lay etc.. he then cut it in way that added shape and layers around my face. Also while cutting my hair he explained to me a few tricks and idea for styling. I washed my hair this morning and felt my curls are less frizzy, fresh, light and easier to manage. I was more than happy to pay the full price without student discount yet I was happy to have the student discount :D Definitely going back to Neil Barton!! P.S please note this review is mainly for a curly hair cut done by Neil. Any other hairdresser I am not sure nor other services. Steven is quite good too, ( he trimmed my sister hair) but it he missed mine) if you hair is as curly as mine from my experience STICK to Neil.

My last review focused on the events of one Saturday morning when, wanting to look all pretty for a…read morewedding reception the following day, I decided to get my hair coloured in one hairdresser, and then cut at Neil Barton...as you may already have read, the colour went badly wrong! By the time I got to my hairdresser, Robbie, later in the morning I had puffy eyes from all the tears, and sadly explained the horrible experienced I'd had with my colour. He had a good look at it, explained what went wrong (too many highlights on one side & straight peroxide had been used on quite a dark brown apparently!) and declared "I can fix this!"...I almost kissed him! Now, the reason I got my hair coloured somewhere else in the first place was that Neil Barton were quite busy that day, and couldn't fit me in for both cut & colour. But Robbie felt sure it would only take him a short time to fix it and we could fit it into the time. He was absolutely right!. First, we had a good discussion about the style I wanted, then he gave me a wonderfully thorough cut before sorting my colour out for me! He was right, it DID only take about 15 mins to fix (which again leaves me quite suspicious the other place told me they didn't have the time to fix it until 6 days later!) and I was ecstatic with the results! Although still lighter than I'd previously had it, the colour had been broken up with my own colour to make it less obvious, and the highlights were blended in well...it was lovely! The cut was also exactly what I wanted too! The price was so reasonable, and I was given an NHS discount. Robbie got a good tip & the promise of receiving my first born child (I really was THAT happy!) This salon has a really great atmosphere, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I will definitely not be going anywhere else for my next cut and colour! It really is a pleasure to come here...not least because they helped turn this very sad Yelper into a ridiculously happy one!

She was fantastic from the consultation ( recommending olaplex as a pretreatment which is simply the best hair conditioning I have ever had) right through to talking me through products I might like to help maintain my colour going forward) Her knowledge of the davines products that muse sell is unrivalled, she talked me through them but at no point put any pressure on to buy anything she is just passionate about them ... I purchased products because I genuinely wanted too. Muse I should mention had to be hand selected & approved by davines in order to sell their products which they do exclusively ... The whole team are very welcoming ( I was in the salon 3 times, 1 for a free consultation another to get an olaplex and then my final appointment to get my balayage done) my Appointment was at 2.15pm and whilst the salon is open until 6pm on a Wednesday I was the last client of the day for her, they do this to ensure they can give you 100per cent of their focus, she constantly checked my colour & toner progress. I left 20 mins after closing and didn't feel hurried out the door at all! The salon is very modern and everything down to the coffee was faultless. I'm so happy to have found a hair dressers in Edinburgh I can trust. I carefully read reviews on this salon before trying them for myself and I am pleased to report they are clearly genuine reviews so I felt i should leave one of my own ... See you again soon!

The owner, Scott, has continued the family business which started in 1960 as a barber shop called Staynley's Hairdresser. The place is now known as Muse Hair. New clients will be asked to fill out a questionnaire which lists your likes, dislikes and general haircare routine etc. The staff in Muse are very friendly. When my hair is shampooed, they tell you what products they are using and you can also buy them here. It was here that I was recommended the Redken Blonde Glam shampoo which I now use regularly. On my recent visit (yesterday) I also saw a notice that if you check in to Muse on Facebook, you can get 10% off any retail products you buy. I usually just go for a haircut and blowdry, but I have also had highlights done here a few times, and always leave as a happy customer.

Leave it to me to find a new hairdresser by following a cute dog…read more.. A few months back, my go-to salon closed down and my fabled hairdresser has yet to find a new place. That meant, for the better half of the last nine weeks, I've looked like a disheveled cat... you'd be surprised how quickly a simple bob can get unruly. I've passed by this place nearly every day and have always been curious, as the signage out front is well done and it only being open Thursday-Sunday with Stockbridge rents, must do pretty well for itself. But it wasn't until I followed big brown puppy dog eyes into the shop that I actually made an appointment. First thing you need to know about this place: George is awesome. George is NOT the owner/stylist, but his ridiculously cute mastiff that will jump up and wiggle butt to greet you when you walk in the door. Within 10 seconds, I was putty and willing to put myself in a chair regardless of price, just to spend an hour with this dang cute dog... it's brilliant marketing when you think about it. So distracted was I by the cuteness of the dog, that I don't actually remember the owners name (sorry!!) but he's super energetic and good chat. I hate awkward silence stylists... Cute dogs and nice humans aside, how was the haircut? A little bit of column A, a little bit of column B... The pros: the cut was fairly priced (£30) and he managed to tame the ridiculously unruly hairline at the back of my neck... a bob is already a tricky thing to do right, but throw in this monster of a hairline and it's a total nightmare to cut. The back of my bob looks spiffy right now. The cons: it took a really long time, over an hour and a half, for the cut - with my schedule, that's not something that falls in a yay category, even if it did mean more dog cuddle time. Plus, the cut isn't has clean as I like it and the fringe is already a bit unruly... partially my own fault for not speaking up or realizing he was doing mini layers (which on fine hair, is the devil)... but a little disappointing nonetheless. Would I go back? Yes. But that has a lot to do with the fact that it's across the street from my house... I don't think it would fall into a destination salon category for me quite yet. However, his men's haircuts look pretty darn spiffy. Cute dog. Clean shop. Good chat. You could do worse...

From the quirky name alone, I knew this would be my kind of cut. Jacqui was my stylist and she was lovely; warm and chatty and sincere. I have a tendency to be curious and talkative and I could really indulge in this, as it felt very natural talking away to Jacqui. Equally so, if you're not as social and just want a darn good haircut, you won't be disappointed. Trigg is bursting with personality, and yet doesn't feel too stylised. There's art on the walls - all for sale - and the interior is kitsch, uplifting and bright. From the moment I stepped in, I knew that this was a unique salon. The price is average for the area, perhaps a few pounds lower than the larger salons down the road. Trigg use all Tigi products which smell like a complete dream. I was so impressed with the condition of my hair after the cut. I didn't go for anything bold, just a cut and blow dry, but I was so impressed. Jacqui got just the perfect length that I'd specified; just enough to have my hair looking back in full health but keeping the length. And the fringe, oh my! - I love the shorter full fringe look. And Jacqui crafted the most perfect bangs for me! Seriously, ruler straight; she's a whizz with the scissors. And with free fringe trims, my fringe can always look en pointe. I'd say I've definitely found my regular salon and I'll be back soon. Next time, I think I'm going to delve into some colour, as the Tigi colours available are striking.

In…read moreEdinburgh there is no shortage of barbers and hairdressers and I certainly tried a few before I came across The Players Lounge in Rose Street. From my first visit to my most recent, I've been given the warmest of welcomes and excellent service! The folks there offer a variety of services including hot towel shaves, facials and Indian head massage but the haircut is their staple! From a consultation on what you'd like to the end product, you won't leave disappointed. I first booked a hot towel shave to be done by Graeme and as I'd never had one before he talked me through the service and after a few more visits, it was time for a haircut, going from barber to barber for a while had taken its toll on my confidence of allowing someone new to cut my hair but Graeme, asked me what style I'd like, how I'd had it cut in the past etc and he gave me a haircut that I was thoroughly happy with! My confidence was restored Thanks Graeme!!! I'd thoroughly recommend The Players Lounge to anybody looking for a fantastic men's salon in the heart of the Scottish Capital. Can't wait to go back already :))

Given that's it's a fairly high end place. At under £10 for a beard trim, I expected to be in and out the door without much attention. The reality was quite the opposite.
