Wow!!!!!!! I have only been here for donuts (which are really good) being newer to the state Sandra's came highly recommended for donuts. We wanted cookies made for our son's birthday beach trip and the gal I hired canceled last minute. I emailed a few locations around and Sandra's was the only one who got back to Me. I just needed some WOW factor haunted mansion cookies and told them I don't care what designs they do just so it's Disney haunted mansion. They ABSOLUTELY nailed it. I'm so impressed. My husband used to live in Sanford before I domesticated him. We're in town for a doctor's appointment and he did a little detour to this small bakery. We bought a dozen of different donuts and a few other items. The glaze donut I just had was really good. The dough was airy and cakey. The glaze wasn't overwhelmingly sweet like most bakeries. We have been eating Sandra's donuts for over 20 years and they never disappoint. When the shop changed owners, I was worried that I would lose my favorite donut establishment. However, really only one thing has changed and that's their hours. I would've given a five star review, but every time when I go in after 10 o'clock, they are almost sold out and they don't close until one. I did finally find a workaround. Best cherry filled doughnut I've ever had! I did not go into the shop and only tried them from the selection my sister picked. They were so good that I had to yelp them. I'm not sure if the doughnut is the only star of the show as the cherry filling is amazing. Starting with the doughnut, I found the texture a perfect combination of thickness and fluffiness. The flavor was sweet but not a sugar overload. It's rare to find this type of balance. It wasn't until I bit into the cherry filling that I realized that good could get better. The cherry filling tasted like real cherries with natural cherry sweetness and not a bunch of sugar. Wow! Definitely a doughnut to remember. I am looking forward to returning on a regular basis every time I'm in the area. Great job! read more

Have read sparkling reviews of this place for awhile. Today stopped to sample the donuts at Sandra's. A quaint little place in the downtown shopping area of Sanford. A small town south of Apex. It was a little disappointing. No question the donuts were quite good. The pricing, I assumed would be Sanford, NC pricing....It was not. It was however NYC pricing. I saw no pricing/menu etc. displayed---I could have missed it. I wish I did see pricing... I had (1) Long John and (1) donut and a can of Dr. Pepper. The nice lady a the register tallied all that up and the grand total was $6.37... Had planned to return home with a dozen of the selection, but, at over $24+, that would be beyond ridiculous. Awesome donuts!!! Lots of filling inside the donuts and they are always fresh. They are way better than any chain store and low priced for such a big donut. Someone asked me what I miss about moving from Ohio. My answer was snow and cream sticks! That someone suggested Sandra's Bakery. I admit there weren't any cream sticks available when I was there, an I'm not sure if they make what I was looking for, BUT they have the most amazing donuts at a reasonable price! Great variety of flavors in a size that are easy to share!! I loved the round cream filled donuts while my daughter went for the jelly filled. Although we were focused on the donuts, Sandra's also carries a variety of other pastries, cakes and even baklava. I know we'll be back to try other goodies soon. read more

This is now our son's favorite donut place. The donuts are so big (his words). They have some really great flavors including chocolate with peanut butter drizzle. That is my favorite flavor. Yes absolutely! I've been going to Sandra's Bakery for many many years, almost 30 years now. Those donuts are the best in the region of North Carolina. I've talk to Sandra on a few occasions about expanding the business because the donuts are that good. I'm telling you, if you are ever in Sanford stop by and try them. I guarantee you'll visit it again. I've since moved to Holly Springs but when I'm there in Sanford I make it my business to stop by and grab a dozen all the time. They should consider building in the Holly Springs area. Without a double the business will do well. Hint, especially with the growth and expansion of Holly Springs. read more

Today a returning customer was made. The place is located in the heart of downtown. The people working there are awesome. But the real reason people show up early in the morning is the donuts. These donuts are the so good writing about them don't do it justice. My fiancé has talked about these donuts since I first met him. And they are better than Dunkin and Krispy Kreme by far. I wish it were closer but am glad it isn't. Who needs the temptation? Much like the long-closed sweet traditions in Cary, Sandra's Bakery has those huge donuts where one will feed two. They're always fresh and go exactly right with coffee or a glass of milk. Whether you like your donuts covered with sugar, dusted with sugar, stuffed with sugar, or with no sugar (on the outside, anyway), there'll be at least one match for your craving. And the apple fritters are . . . .well .....everything your doctor said you shouldn't have, but probably worth the scolding you'll get for indulging. Sandra's could probably get away with having a mascot imitating homer (you-know-who) when he thinks of donuts -- complete with the drool. This place is that good. read more

Absolutely love the doughnuts at Sandra's! I do not get to Sanford often, but we always get doughnuts when we are in the area. There is only one other doughnut shop that compares with Sandra's and that is Granny's Doughnuts in Aberdeen, NC. These two shops have light and fluffy doughnuts without greasy, heavy texture. I read the yelp reviews before trying Sandra's Bakery for the first time. I saw many comments saying that this bakery was not clean and the staff were rude/unattentive. I went to Sandra's yesterday (Saturday, 13 Jan 2019) and did not experience any of this. The place was clean, there were about four or five people working in the back with two taking orders. The lady who waited on me was super nice and explained what everything was as I was mulling over my choices. I don't know if i went on a good day or others have just gone on a bad day? This is a small town bakery with a smaller selection than commercial donut places. Don't go into a mom/pop type shop and expect 100's of varieties of things! I tried the cream filled, chocolate cream filled (the filling was chocolate!), chocolate covered w/ sprinkles, old fashioned chocolate and one that had peanut butter on it. All of the above were delicious. I have no complaints. I will be returning here whenever I have a donut craving. I think I have found one of Sanfords hidden gems. :) read more

Two Stars-They're edible, but never again. I have no idea why the people recommend the doughnuts at this establishment. Even when fresh, the doughnuts taste sickly sweet and over baked. My friend and I purchased a doze because this place was so highly recommenced. We did not end of eating most of the doughnuts because the overly sweet taste, and sometimes dryness of the doughnuts, was overwhelming. There also was not a great deal of diversity or depth to the doughnut selection. The actual establishment seemed to need a strong cleaning, there were gnats in the store and dust. The attendant seemed to have no time for us at all, even though we said up front that we were new. The other desserts offered were very basic, with things like peanut butter sticks, brownies, and cookies. I will not be visiting again, it is unfortunate that Sanford doesn't have better bakery competition. read more

A really wonderful small bakery! Everything they make is fresh, delicious, and extremely worth it. My mother used to come here almost daily when I was younger, and we occasionally still visit to buy donuts; the donut holes are the best in my opinion! I have been able to see the back where they made the donuts when I was younger, due to my mom being rather close to the owner. Everything was clean, looked organized, and smelled amazing! I finally had a chance to visit this bakery (closes way before I get off work), and it was well worth it. I purchased the dirt cup, a lemon filled donut, a cinnamon streusel donut and cinnamon roll.
