We brought him in, and the doctors quickly took x-rays and discovered he had a string wrapped around the base of his tongue, which can be very dangerous. The doctors and staff were incredibly kind, compassionate, and understanding throughout the entire process. They clearly explained the situation and the recommended surgery, but it was unfortunately far outside of what we could afford. When we asked if there were any other options, even if they carried more risk, they took the time to listen and worked with us. They agreed to carefully cut the string under his tongue and allow the remaining piece to hopefully pass on its own. They were honest about the risks, but they respected our situation and helped us pursue the option that gave him a chance while still being financially possible for us. They also gave him anti-nausea medication, fluids, and pain management to support his recovery, and made sure we understood exactly what to watch for at home. I'm so grateful for how kind, nonjudgmental, and caring everyone was during such an emotional and stressful time. It was clear they truly cared about our cat and wanted the best possible outcome while also being respectful of our financial reality. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone facing a pet emergency.

Dr. Annie Bowes and her team were incredibly attentive, compassionate, and efficient. Within about an hour and a half, Mini was stitched up, fitted with a cone, given her medication, and we were on our way home. In such a stressful and scary situation, their calm urgency and genuine care made all the difference. Mini has been recovering well ever since thanks to the excellent treatment she received. I am so grateful for the comfort and confidence they gave me during an emergency. I highly recommend Dr. Bowes and her team -- you can absolutely trust them with the care of your animals, especially when it matters most.

I unfortunately did not read any reviews or ratings before going in but I really wish I had. They didn't offer an in ear temperature gauge and attempted to stick a thermometer in his rectum. After he squirmed she decided she wouldn't be able to get his temperature and didn't try again at all. Even though the $150 exam fee includes all vitals and temperature is pretty important to rule certain things out. Maybe it was a one off incident but it seems like there is much better care out there. I would check all options before resorting to this location.

We brought our dog in for severe, acute pain--she had been screaming earlier, was hunched over, and…read morehad stopped drinking. This was not a minor issue. When we arrived, the waiting room was empty and we were taken back to a room fairly quickly. From there, everything fell apart. We then sat in that room for an extended period while multiple other cases were brought in and seen ahead of us, with no communication, no updates, and no reassessment. It felt like once we were placed in a room, we were effectively forgotten. I made it very clear to staff that our dog has an extremely high pain tolerance--including a history that would make most dogs shut down long before showing pain--and that if she is vocalizing and guarding, something is seriously wrong. That concern didn't seem to change anything. We understand triage. We are not asking to be seen before critical cases. But there is a difference between triage and complete lack of communication or interim care. At a minimum, an emergency hospital should: * Reassess patients waiting in rooms * Communicate realistic expectations * Provide some level of pain management for animals in obvious distress None of that happened. We left with the impression that unless your pet is actively dying, you can expect to sit--unseen and unmanaged--for hours. That's not an acceptable standard for an emergency facility.

We came here for a second opinion because another vet office in Ponderay tried to spay our dog and…read moresaid they couldn't do it because her vitals tanked. We took all the info over here and the vet really did her research before meeting with us. She was confident they could spay our dog without using the same stuff the other vet used (and they used way too much and told us more tests were needed and wanted a ton of money for all of this, plus talked about putting our one year old dog on heart meds for life!) We made an appointment and I'm happy to report that our dog was successfully spayed by them today and had no ill side effects and is peacefully recovering. ‍ I could not speak more highly about the care we received here from alllll the staff. Also they can take temps by just scanning the microchip on the dog instead of shoving the thermometer up their . Their staff happily offered to pick my dog up and put her in her crate to come home so she didn't jump and so I didn't have to pick her up. So thoughtful! This is our new primary vet.

Staff were completely in over their heads, were unable to manage a peaceful transition and were grossly incompetent. After a 45+ minute long appointment, multiple rounds of sedation (for our sweet dog who was already in process of a natural transition when they arrived, they didn't even bother to check her vitals upon arrival) and attempting to inject two different rounds of euthanasia medicine unsuccessfully in 3 different limbs and ended up injecting her in her kidney (we think), I do not know that our dog did not suffer. Our entire experience before, during and after the appointment was unprofessional and the communication was and continues to be terrible. And to the person at the clinic who told me on the phone to "park next to the dumpster" when I went to pick up our dog yesterday to take her to the crematorium in Spokane myself: wow, that level of compassion was unbelievable to top off an already horrific experience. We will never set foot in that business again. Update Sept 3, 2025: multiple staff at VCA North Idaho Animal Hospital have called me and we have had honest conversations around our experience. My family is grateful to the clinic for the follow up. Our experience start to finish was a domino effect of problems, miscommunications and inability to manage the situation that led to the 1 star review. The clinic staff seem sincere making some changes as a result of our feedback, however we will choose to go with a different provider in the future.
