From the outside I was unsure about my choice but walking through the front doors (which are not ADA accessible) I was greeted by a very clean and well taken care of lobby, I sat well taken care of because the hotel is definitely dated but they take care of what they have, the hallway carpet looked fairly new even and the rooms don't have carpet so they can actually be kept sanitary. It definitely surprised me in a good way, the price is good for the room, mostly because this hotel is QUIET!! there's no highway next door, the parking lot wasn't full of drunks, there wasn't people opening and closing their doors loudly all night. Plus, dog friendly! The lawns around the hotel are primo according to my dog, they're not gross and the lawns are inviting for the dogs like with rocks and spikey plants like a lot of "dog friendly hotels" have, right next to a busy road. 4/5 as motels go, it is what it is, but it's clean The actual "dog friendliness" rating is 5/5 read more

Very quiet. Clean. Plenty of parking. Off the freeway but not loud, at least when we stayed the night. The rooms have A.C. but the weather was nice, and we had the window open most of the time. The staff was great, save for one employee. She wasn't terrible, just not helpful with how to access the t.v. guide. (It's Chanel 111) or why the jets on the jacuzzi weren't working (she said that the jacuzzi jets were probably cycling). Rrrriggt. Any who. Being from far away, we weren't sure of the breakfast options and those The Sandman Inn because it offers a few breakfast options, is what was advertised at the time. The breakfast options were awesome in our opinion. Different cereal choices. Pastries, Bagels, Fruit and my favorite. Microwaveable Croissant or Biscuit "Jimmy Dean" Egg, Sausage and Cheese sandwiches. Coffee, Tea. Yogurt. More than you we would dream of. We stay knowing we'll save a few bucks on breakfast. The pool area is nice, even if parts may not be working. Still worth the money. read more

I have stayed at the Sandman many times and this time I booked with a place called Reservation Counter. After a long day of travel, we arrive to find out they could not find the reservation. They had my last name correct but did not have my first name and would not give me the room. Needless to say, we are not staying there. Also, they have no elevator, so I needed a room on the first floor due to medical issues. They would not give me one saying they were for people with animals only. If there are no reservations for them they why not make money and sale the room. I won't be going back. Now I have to go through the third party to get my money back. What a hassle. read more

It was ok until the morning. Housekeeping was going up and down the hall at 9 banging on people's doors. Checkout is 11. I called front desk to ask why and the lady was so rude and said if I didn't want to be disturbed I should have put out a sign. #1 there was no sign to put out. #2 they should tell you at check in it's their policy to start banging on doors early. #3 I have stayed in a gazillion hotels and never ever have I had housekeeping coming around banging on doors 2 hours before checkout. We were supposed to come back thru town in 2 weeks. Definitely won't stay here again. read more

For the money they want the service should be better. The Front desk guy was unfriendly and seemed to dont want to help. The Wireless they advertised doesnt work and when I called the front desk they said I need a cable. Why would I need a cable for a wireless? Well in other words I went in the front desk again and got the cable which didnt helped at all. So I called again and he told me to call the Tech Support of their provider after talking on the phone for 2 hours, still no result so I gave up. I was so frustrated coz all I want to do is to go online in my room. I went in to their business center and guess what, my hair is all white already and still I cant get online.... So I just decided to go on a swim. The pool was heated so it was nice (thats the 2 stars I gave), the jacuzzi is warm but theres no bubbles or pressure. They have no towel in the pool area. They said they dont provide those. The pilow was flat and as if theres no pillow, the comforter looks like it needs a new one. The shower head needs a change too. It was okay but it could be better. Will we come back? I think no... I will just try to go Best Western again or try other Motels. read more

To whom it may concern: Our recent stay in the Sandman Inn of America's Best Value Inn was a disturbing experience, to put it mildly. We issued a complaint in person to general manager, Krista Ray, who responded without hospitality and with apparent ire at our complaint which was thus: When we were breakfasting at the hotel after our stay, an hour before the close of breakfast, the bar was sparse, to put it politely; even the water pitcher was empty and the bathrooms were locked. When we went to inquire of the two ladies we had seen earlier cleaning the breakfast bar, neither was there. We rung the doorbell for service and no one answered. Another customer rang the doorbell for service ten minutes later and still no answer. We decided to use the restroom and get the remainder of our breakfast out, which was disappointing since we had paid for the breakfast as part of our stay. As we were leaving the building however, we saw the entire staff, some 5-10 people, including the two ladies we had seen prior, immediately outside the building, chatting and smoking right next to the door (though the sign on the door said: "No smoking within 10 feet"). My husband pointed out the two ladies he had seen working earlier and when he did, they hustled inside, sensing our frustration that they would ignore their customers. I proceeded inside, where I issued my complaints that they did not have unlocked restrooms or a stocked bar, had not had someone manning the desk, did not answer the doorbell, and did not leave an indication that they were on break or when they would be back. The manager insisted that she was the only one on the clock (which does not explain why we saw another of the smoking employees cleaning just 30 minutes prior), and that she was "allowed a break." She said she had no sign to leave. When I suggested that she write a sign herself, she angrily responded that she would do that next time. At this point, since she was the offender and obviously defensive and angry, I requested her superior. She insisted that the owner lived in India and she had no way of contacting him. I asked to whom she reported, and she gave me a number that did not work. I asked for another and after spending twenty minutes looking it up on a computer, she found another number for me. I was on hold for a good 15 minutes before an employee of your customer relations answered. She insisted she could do nothing for me beyond direct me to file this report, and that she could not get her manager for me, but would have him call me back at a later time. By this point, I began to suspect I was being given the runaround and insisted I speak to a superior immediately which she denied and then, upset by my insistence, hung up on me. Still at the hotel, I informed the manager, Krista Ray, that the company appeared to not be able to do anything for me and since the hotel was individually owned and operated, that I would like satisfaction from her. Since our stay included a reasonable expectation of prompt and polite customer service as well as a breakfast and the use of facilities, all of which were denied us, I requested a partial or full refund. She insisted I leave the premises and threatened to call the authorities to have me removed. Since we had already checked out at this time and lost an hour of travel time, I decided to oblige her request with the parting comment that: I would hope this experience would enable her to better serve future customers. read more

I will stay here again! Clean, very comfortable and friendly. We needed a first floor room because of our bikes. They had a jacuzzi tub room but the tub wasn't working. They discounted the room to make it work for us. In the morning we were given a bag with an apple and a few small muffins. Not great, but not their fault. We'll blame that on COVID. I booked a room here through Expedia at the prompting of the hotel who would not homer the advertised price. I showed up the evening of my reservation and the manager was rude and insisted I did not have a reservation. I got my phone out of the truck and brought up the reservation and was again rudely told they had no reservation for me. I inquired one last time to confirm there was no reservation and then went across the street to their sister property that was much higher priced, but also much nicer and not managed by rude people. I had traveled on throughout the week and about a full week later I discovered a charge from the sandman inn on my credit card. When I called to discuss the charge and get it refunded, I was met by the same rude and unprofessional manager who accused me of booking with a travel company, and not them directly. When I told her that her own desk directed me to book the room that way, she changed her story to me supposedly showing up on the wrong day. When I called her out on that lie she got defensive and told me she wasn't doing shit and I would have to file a claim with my credit card company. I travel for work, on the road 5-6 days a week... I spend about 12 - 16 days a year in this town and because of this experience, will not only not spend my money with this property, but I will not spend another dime with any property associated with this property. read more

Beware of Bed Bugs. I was eaten alive over several days the week of October 24- the 30th. Not to mention that I am with a small nonprofit and they overcharged me for my rooms. I was dealing with a medical emergency regarding a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient for his role in Apollo 13. Turns out the same person owns the Best Western in La Grande Best Western evicted us. So they kick us out of Best Western after they say the are going to comp the rooms to our nonprofit. Then evict us during a medical emergency. They refer us to the Sandman that they also control and overcharge us based on the advertised internet rates. Stay at your own risk. I will be following up with their legal counsel to seek redress and grievances. My advice you are better off sleeping in your car then going the debugging process and the healing time it takes. The king room had mini fridge and micro which was great. The hall and stairs had not been vacuumed in a long time or the rooms carpet. But all else was standard equipment. The water pressure and temp do change when somebody else uses the water though. Oh yeah- I asked about the flyer right next to the desk and the clerk didn't have a clue about the local events listed. We always stay at this motel when we come to La Grande! Jennifer is usually the front desk attendant that we see! She is always very attentive and makes sure our stay is pleasant! My family and friends have been staying here for 10 years . I am local to this town. My name is in their computer as is my daughters....for ten years. They have always offered little value for the outrageous price they charge in a town this small. I imagine they are gouging the parents of college students. But....they have an indoor pool so the kids want that. Well the kids have been informed they will never be staying here again. Or at any other hotel owned by the Red Lion company. We will go across the street to Super 8. The vapid young women behind the desk clearly needed to wield what little power she will ever have. After being denied any of my discounts with a LOCAL phone reservation, prepaid I was told to go online. I went to the official RLH (Red Lion Hotels) website booked a room in my daughters name and seemingly paid with my credit card. When my daughter checked in they refused to let her in until she physically paid with her own credit card. Within minutes I was on the phone to correct the error and once again, give them my credit card number. They refused to accept it. Ms. Vapid then sarcastically explained to me how this was an important company policy for my protection. Despite the fact that the entire rest of the world successfully runs businesses online they apparently couldn't do it. So I had to drive across town and take her my physical credit card. Where she then proceeded to tell me if I had read the FINE PRINT I would have known I had to come in and SIGN A SPECIAL FORM???????? to authorize them to use my credit card. But the final blow was this young women yelling "HAVE A NICE DAY!!!" the entire time I was walking back out to my car. Good good sweetiepie. You just lost your company at least have a dozen customers. You could have tried to find a way to help us, you could have gotten your manager, but instead it was more important for you to feel big. I digress...the final insult came when my daughters CC bounced trying to pay for dinner because the pre-authorization had not been voided as I requested. I can only assume that was the clerks final screw-you. Either that or she's has zero understanding of how the payment system works. Protip....nothing "just drops off" your credit card. A preauth will tie up your credit for 3-5 days. How ever a few clicks will instantly VOID it. read more

Clean and average. The beds are super hard. I felt at 89$ it was a bit pricey for what we received in return.

Good value. The bed was comfy but the pillows left something to be desired.

It's a bit pricy for what you get. If you're looking for a basic bed to sleep in, hot shower etc. then this place is just fine (it also comes with a mini fridge). However, the wifi was down for the first two nights I stayed there, and the third night it was intermittent only lasting about 5 minutes at a time. The upkeep on the rooms are ok but the carpets weren't clean. By the third night my key card was also not working anymore and I had to go back and forth to the front lobby 3 times until they finally figured it out. read more
